We are a dedicated group of Wisconsin artisan winemakers who pride ourselves in producing high-quality wines with many of us using Wisconsin grown grapes and fruit. This Co-op has been formed as an avenue of distribution for our high-quality wines. Many of our Wisconsin wineries are growing coldclimate grapes and other fruit. These grape varietal names may be new and unfamiliar to most people. We urge you to try our unique wines and discover new and exciting flavors! Please take time to visit our Co-op members. We are offering you two beautiful, 18 oz stemmed wine glasses with the inscription, “I did the Wisconsin Winery Coop Wine Trail,” as an elegant souvenir for your support of our Co-op members, and new to this year, we will be offering $100 in Winery Bucks to everyone who completes the Wisconsin Winery Co-op Trail as well! They took on the Challenge and won in 5 days! Meet Mary and Jerry of Waukesha – who love traveling together and celebrating life in their 50s. They were ready to take on the friendly (and tasty) challenge put on the table by the Wisconsin Winery Co-op. They were already well acquainted with many of the Winery Co-op members, including the Brigadoon Winery in Tripoli having stopped there while on a bear-hunting trip “Up North.” When they picked up the Winery Co-op’s trail book (the one you have in your hands), they were immediately taken by the Challenge to visit all of the Co-op’s artisan winemakers and vineyards in the shortest period of time. “We knew with some planning that we could beat the record of eight days,” Mary says. “So we started our wine vacation in Jefferson, meeting great people along the way.” They made sure they knew when the wineries opened their doors so they were the first ones in, and they kept any backtracking to a bare minimum. That might have given them a leg up on the competition, including a couple they overheard at Fisher King Winery in Verona talking about doing the Challenge themselves. They had stopped there to taste their favorite wine – Frontenac, a highly rated red wine.
They took turns driving, spent a few nights in motels including one at their home-away-from-home in Tripoli and watched their GPS eat up the miles. It was a summer outing and the back roads afforded them a wonderful look at rural America and the small towns that dot the landscape. Because of their background of wine tasting, they already had a good idea on which wines to select (the Challenge requires purchase of a bottle of wine at each winery), so they didn’t linger at familiar stops. That allowed them to visit 4-5 wineries each day. When they got back home after five days, Mary’s Honda Elantra had collected 1,500 miles on the odometer. The couple received two gorgeous inscribed (“I did the Wisconsin Winery Co-op Winery Trail”) 18 oz wine glasses for finishing the tour, lots of fond memories, and, of course, the Challenge title. “We would do it again, but we don’t think we could beat our record of five days,” Mary says, adding: “Thank you to all the wineries for the wonderful experience! Everybody was very nice.” EDITOR’S NOTE: The Wisconsin Winery Coop congratulates Mary and Jerry. We feel their record of five days is unbeatable, so now we will be offering $100 in Winery Bucks in addition to the two inscribed winery glasses to anyone who completes the Wisconsin Winery Co-op Tour by December 31, 2022.
