City of Antigo Recreation & Attractions
The City of Antigo is the county seat of Langlade County. It was founded in 1878 as “Springbrook” and experienced substantial growth during the late 19th century as the lumber industry flourished in the region. In addition to its valued lumber resources, Antigo helped to generate a thriving farming community and manufacturing industry. Antigo became a division headquarters of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway in 1907 and served as an important transport hub. Today, Antigo has a diverse economic base with a range of industrial and commercial businesses. The city not only serves as the gateway to Langlade County and the Northwoods for countless travelers every year, but also provides its own wide variety of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Downtown Antigo offers a welcoming small-town hospitality, historic character, locally owned shops, and an easygoing Northwoods pace. Centered around attractive brick storefronts and community gathering spaces, the district is a pleasant place to stroll, browse boutiques, enjoy a casual meal, or stop for ice cream, gourmet chocolate, and specialty drinks while exploring Antigo and Langlade County. Seasonal events and a strong sense of local pride give downtown extra charm, making it a natural stop for visitors looking to experience authentic northern Wisconsin hospitality beyond the usual highway route.
Walking/Biking
Walk or ride your bike on Springbrook Trail. This approximately 5-mile trail is 10-foot-wide with a combination of asphalt, boardwalk and wood-chip paths winding along Antigo Lake and Spring Brook before meandering through forests, connecting to North Side shopping centers and running along Hogan Street and Remington Lake. Access Springbrook Trail from the northwest corner of Al Remington Little League Field located at 830 Langlade Road.
If street biking is more your style, the City of Antigo has 22 miles of signed and designated Citywide Bike Route, connecting community facilities, parks, shopping, and restaurants.
Bring your mountain bike to ride on the Antigo Single Track Mountain Bike Trail. This trail is less than 4 miles from the south side of Antigo. The trail consists of five one-mile loops of rolling hills and beautiful scenery. The trail offers loops for beginners, novice and skilled riders.
Disc Golf
Like to Disc Golf to pass time? There are two disc golf courses right in Antigo.
The City of Antigo Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole disc golf course located off of the Springbrook Trail. The course
offers a good mix of fairways, from short & tight to wide open. The course is good for beginners, while giving more experienced players a good challenge.
The Antigo High School Disc Golf Course is a 9-hole course that is mostly flat & lightly wooded. It is located across from the Antigo High School. Tees are marked by stakes. The fairways are relatively easy, although some are fairly long.
Fish at two different locations right in Antigo! Antigo Lake and Spring Brook offers fishing piers for fishermen to fish for brown trout, bluegill, perch, crappie, and bullhead.
Head over to Remington Lake to let the kids go fishing for brook trout and rainbow trout. Remington Lake offers shoreline fishing with a fishing pier.
Please note that Remington Lake is only for kids under the age of 16 and disabled anglers.
Parks - Enjoy the great outdoors at one of Antigo’s many beautiful parks. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to relax, a playground for the kids, or open space for recreation, Antigo’s parks offer something for everyone to enjoy.
Railway Activity Park offers fun for all ages.. The park encompasses the Optimist Skate Park, Rotary Bike Park & Pump Track, RC Track, and Optimist Sledding Hill. The park is located at 1011 First Avenue.

Dogs need room to run and play as well, and the City of Antigo Dog Park is the perfect place for them to enjoy the outdoors. With separate areas for small and large dogs, it offers plenty of space for safe off-leash fun. Conveniently located just off the Highway 64 bypass at 2000 Hwy 64, it is a great stop for your furry friend to stretch their legs.
Take a dip in the pool or play outside on the splash garden at Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center located by the Antigo High School at 111 Western Road or splash around at the Draeger Family Splash Pad at City Park located at 231 Aurora Street.
Play tennis at Ellison Tennis Courts located across from
the Antigo High School, 1900 10th Avenue.
Grab your partner and pickleball paddle and head to Krueger Pickleball Courts at Jaycee Park for 16 pickleball courts with permanent fences between each court. Ten courts have overhead lighting to play at night.
Geocaching - Embark on a modern-day treasure hunt, where countless geocaches await discovery. With abundant hidden treasures scattered across scenic trails, parks, and landmarks, it’s the perfect way to explore the area while adding a little adventure to your visit.
Outdoor basketball can be played at Mendlik Park located at 1439 Clermont Street.
Local Vendor Markets
Shop local vendors every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, June through the end of September, at the Antigo Farmers Market in the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park, 420 Field Street. Opening in 2026, the Hwy 45 Trading Post will be open daily from May through October and holiday markets at 213 Superior Street.

FROM WOLF RIVER WHITEWATER THRILLS TO QUIET WATERS
Eastern Langlade County is home to one of the best whitewater rivers in the Midwest: the famous Wolf River. This river offers quiet, placid waters in the northern section and complex and challenging rapids in the southern sections. Paddling the Wolf River is a thrilling adventure; the river requires paddlers’ great respect and sound judgment. The southern sections are not recommended for children younger than eight or non-swimmers. It is highly recommended that paddlers arrange their trip through one of the excellent rafting outfitters that specialize in Wolf River paddling.
For paddlers seeking calmer waters, try kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddle boarding on one of Langlade County’s over 766 lakes.

Snowmobiling
Langlade County offers exceptional opportunities for snowmobiling enthusiasts throughout the winter season.
With more than 550 miles of beautifully groomed trails, riders can enjoy scenic routes with convenient access to businesses in both the City of Antigo and throughout Langlade County. The trail system winds through striking glacial terrain, upland hardwood forests, cedar swamps, farm fields, and alongside small streams and lakes, creating a memorable winter riding experience. Residents of the City of Antigo are also permitted snowmobile access within city limits.
This outstanding trail network is made possible through the dedication of 9 local snowmobile clubs, Langlade County, and the many private landowners who generously allow trails to cross their properties.
Langlade County’s trail system is divided into two snowmobile zones, A and B, which may open or close independently depending on conditions. Riders are
encouraged to check the current trail report on our website at https://bit.ly/LCSnowmobileTrailReport before heading out. Because trail conditions vary, there is no set season opening or closing date. Trails open only when they are considered safe, including when brushing, signing, and grooming are complete, and they may close at any time due to unsafe conditions or lack of snow.
The Langlade County Snowmobile Trail System also allows ATV use beginning 10 days after the official opening of the snowmobile trails and only when temperatures are below 28°F. This helps protect trail conditions, as warmer temperatures can damage the packed surface. UTVs are not permitted on the snowmobile trail system.
Winter Silent Sports
Downhill Skiing
Kettlebowl Ski Hill, located in the Kettlebowl Recreation Area, is a naturally made snow slope, providing skiing and snowboarding opportunities for the entire family. Kettlebowl Ski Hill is towrope operated and open every weekend from 12pm-4pm during the winter when weather permits. Skis and snowboards are available for rent. Prices are very reasonable, and amenities include a parking area, restrooms, and a chalet with concessions. Kettlebowl is conveniently located in the central part of Langlade County.
Snowshoeing
Strap on your snowshoes and lead the way: Langlade County offers marked packed trails at Gartzke Flowage and Moccasin Lake. If you prefer backcountry skiing or snowshoeing, traverse the 130,000 acres of county forest lands and 66 miles of Langlade County Ice Age Trail, Antigo Single-Track Mountain Bike Trail, or the Game Lake Nature Trail in Veteran’s Memorial Park. While fees are not required, donations are appreciated.
Sled Dog and Skijoring Trails
Discover winter adventure on Langlade County’s sled dog and skijoring trails, where more than 15 miles of scenic routes wind through hardwood forests, rolling hills, and beautiful river valleys. The Track 52 and Crocker Hills Recreation Areas give visitors and their four-legged companions plenty of space to run..

Langlade County’s ample snowfall beckons cross-country ski enthusiasts to hit our six groomed cross-country ski trails.
Gartzke Flowage Cross-Country Ski Trail: 6.5 miles long, designed for all abilities, and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Amenities include a parking area, restrooms, and recreation shelters. Located 10 miles west of Antigo.
Jack Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail: 15 miles long, designed for all abilities, and Piston-Bully groomed for both classic and freestyle. Amenities include a parking area, restrooms, and a recreation shelter. Located 16 miles north of Antigo, and half a mile from Jack Lake Campground at the Jack Lake Recreation Area.
Kettlebowl Cross-Country Ski Trail: 2.79 miles long, includes two loops, groomed for classic and freestyle. Located in Kettlebowl Ski Area in the central part of Langlade County.
Maranatha Cross-Country Ski Trail: 6.7 miles of classic skiing for beginners to experts within the ChequamegonNicolet National Forest, maintained by Silver Birch Ranch and open to the public. The trail begins a 1/2 mile east of Silver Birch Ranch located at N6120 Sawyer Lake Road (4 miles north of Langlade in the eastern corner of Langlade County).
Moccasin Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail: 5.5 miles long, designed for all abilities, and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Amenities include a parking area, restrooms, and recreation shelter. Located 3 miles west of Elcho in the northwest corner of Langlade County.
Springbrook Cross-Country Ski Trail: 2.06 miles of trail, right in the City of Antigo, designed for beginners and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Parking is available at the dead end of Virginia Street, near the entrance off of Byrne Road, or behind North Elementary at the end of Badger Ave.
ATV/UTV
Adventure awaits in Langlade County, where more than 106 miles of scenic ATV/UTV trails connect riders to an even larger network of road routes and neighboring county trail systems in Forest, Oconto, Lincoln, and Oneida counties. Travel through beautiful Northwoods landscapes featuring glacial moraines, upland hardwoods, cedar swamps, and winding rivers and lakes, with terrain ranging from gently rolling to steep and hilly. Riders can also access ATV/UTV routes from Antigo’s northside hotels, making it easy to start your adventure close to where you stay.
Langlade County ATV/UTV trails open in the spring when trail conditions allow, and typically remain open until December 1, weather permitting, but the approved road routes throughout Langlade County provide year-round riding opportunities for ATV/UTV enthusiasts to enjoy. For winter riding, ATVs are allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile Trail System beginning 10 days after the official snowmobile trail opening and only when temperatures are below 28°F to protect trail conditions. UTVs are not permitted on the snowmobile trail system.
Most ATV/UTV trails are owned, managed, and maintained by Langlade County, with trails on private property cared for by local clubs. Off Highway Motor Vehicle
The Langlade County West Evergreen Off-Highway Motor Ve hicle (OHMV) Trails consist of 22 miles of trails for properly equipped off-highway motor vehicles such as Jeeps and trucks. The environmentally sustainable managed trail ranges from easy, more difficult, and most difficult. The 7.1 miles of challenge trails range from extreme rock crawls to extremely challenging hills and ridges. Be aware that some of the OHMV trail is shared with ATV/UTVers. The trailhead is located off of Sherry Road in the Elton Area.
All vehicles must display a valid annual permit, and each operator must carry a yearly operator permit. Permits can be purchased at the Langlade County Forestry, Parks, and Recreation Office as well as at several area businesses. Mailed permits are not accepted.

Cycling
Whether you are a beginning cyclist looking for a relaxing ride or an experienced cyclist looking for a technical mountain bike trail, County of Trails supplies every type of cyclist with a diverse array of riding options. Choose from winding forest trails, serene country roads through bucolic farmlands, routes near city amenities, and scenic trails around Langlade County’s many lakes. Here are several of our trails that are most popular with area cyclists.
Antigo Single-Track Mountain Bike Trail
This trail is a great place to ride or hike, conveniently located close to shopping, food, recreational opportunities, and other amenities of Antigo. The trail offers beginner loops and technical single-track for advanced riders, rolling hills and scenery to be enjoyed by all. The trailhead is located at N1985 Dump Road in Antigo. The total length of the trail is 3.5 miles and is open year-round.
Springbrook Walking/Biking Trail
The City of Antigo’s Springbrook Trail is over 5 miles long, consisting of a combination of asphalt, boardwalk, and wood chip surfaces. The trail travels through Antigo Lake Park, up along a 420 foot long boardwalk along Spring Brook, up through a forested nature area, and up into the city’s north-side shopping area as well as west towards Remington Pond, with signed and designated bike routes along the roads connecting several sections. The trail is accessible from several locations throughout the city, with parking available by Fourth Avenue Dam, Al Remington Little League Park, behind North Elementary on Badger Ave, and elsewhere.
City of Antigo Bike Route
Made possible through community sponsorship, this signed and designated city-wide bike route travels along roadways throughout the city, with highway crossings at 4th, 7th, and 10th avenues.
Gartzke Flowage Recreation Area
Traversing a Norway pine plantation, upland hardwood, cedar swamps, and spring seeps, the Gartze Flowage trails offer 6.5 scenic miles of riding for cyclists of every ability level. Access the trail at W6379 5th Avenue Road in Bryant.
Jack Lake Recreation Area South Trailhead - Jack Lake Mountain Bike Trail
Over 12 miles of fast, flowing singleand double-track mountain bike trails weave through northern hardwood, aspen, and conifer forests and along the perimeter of three undeveloped glacier lakes, wetlands, and bogs. With a variety of scenery and interesting terrain, the trail has something for all riders. Veteran’s Memorial Park is located 15 miles north of Antigo, in Deerbrook. The trailhead is located in the southwest corner of the park’s lot, near the campground’s entrance.
Moccasin Lake Recreation Area
Overlooking a vast black spruce swamp and two river basins, the Moccasin Lake Trail provides 5.5 miles of excellent riding for all abilities. Enjoy your descent on three exhilarating hills: the Luge, the Expressway, and the Muskellunge. Access this trail off Moccasin Lake Road, west of Elcho.
Nicolet Roche Trail Mountain Bike Trail
The Nicolet Roche Trail’s technical and tight single track in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest brings on an exciting, challenging riding experience. This 20mile adventure comprises long sections of intermediate trail interspersed with advanced features such as technical rock gardens and tricky climbs. Access the Nicolet Roche Trail at the south end of Boulder Lake Campground, Van Alstine Road, or Highway 64, east of Langlade.
Wolf River State Trail
Sporting 33.4 miles of mountain bike trail from White Lake to Lake Metonga in Forest County, the Wolf River State Trail follows the former Wisconsin Central railroad corridor adjacent to the Wolf River. The trail has a gravel surface in Langlade County, so bring your mountain or gravel bike. The trail is non-motorized from White Lake to Lily (10.6 miles) during the sum mer months, but motorized vehicles are permitted from Lily to Lake Metonga (22.8 miles). Access the trail in downtown White Lake; park along Highway M/ Lake Street near the intersection with Maple Street.
Hiking
The County of Trails features over 120 miles of hiking trails with pristine scenery and an abundance of wildlife.
Ackley Wildlife Area
Just west of Antigo is the Ackley Wildlife Area, where hikers have great opportunities to view waterfowl, deer, and an occasional bear on non-marked trails.
City of Antigo Springbrook Trail
The City of Antigo offers a 10-foot-wide walking/biking trail. The combination asphalt, boardwalk and wood-chip path extends for over 5 miles. Travel along Antigo Lake and Spring Brook before meandering through a wooded nature area. The trailhead is on Fourth Avenue in Antigo, east of Hwy 45. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest covers the eastern portion of Langlade County and offers many opportunities for hiking on its many forest roads.
Gartzke Flowage Recreation Area
This 6.5-mile trail system has a variety of trails for all abilities. It is located entirely on Langlade County property east of Antigo off of 5th Avenue Road. Access the trail from W6379 Fifth Avenue Road, Bryant, WI 54418.
Ice Age Trail
Langlade County boasts over 66 miles of the thousand-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail, weaving through beautiful wilderness and stunning geological features. It is divided into seven segments: Ice Override (0.8 miles), Antigo Heights (7.2 miles), Kettlebowl (9.9 miles), Lumbercamp (12 miles), Summit Moraine (12.2 miles), Highland Lakes (12.8 miles), and Parrish Hills (12 miles).
Moccasin Lake Recreation Area
A couple of miles west of Elcho is the Moccasin Lake Trail, approximately 8.9 miles in length. Amenities include a parking area, restrooms, and a recreation shelter.
Jack Lake Recreation Area - Veteran’s Memorial Park
Veteran’s Memorial Park offers many miles of marked nature trails that feature a loop around an undeveloped lake and an arboretum with over 500 plant species.
Wolf River State Trail
The Wolf River State Trail offers 33.4 miles of trail to hike from White Lake to Lake Metonga in Forest County along the former Wisconsin Central Railroad corridor. The Wolf River State Trail is non-motorized in summer from White Lake to Lily, but please be aware that ATVs are allowed on the trail from Lily to Lake Metonga.

The Antigo High School Disc Golf Course, located across from the high school, is a 9-hole course over mostly flat and lightly wooded grounds. Tees are marked by stakes. This course is great for beginners and intermediate players, as fairways are relatively easy, but some are fairly long.

of Antigo 18-Hole Disc Golf Course
The City of Antigo Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole disc golf course, offering a good mix of fairways, from short and tight to wide open. The course is especially good for beginners while potentially still giving more experienced players a good challenge. Enter the course at the dead end of Virginia Street (park in the cul-de-sac), or park in the Al Remington Little League Field parking lot located at 830 Langlade Road in Antigo and walk the boardwalk starting on the north end of Second Avenue to the Scenic View Access.
Veterans Memorial Park at Jack Lake Disc Golf
The 18-hole disc golf course traverses 156 acres of old pine plantations and forests along the Veteran’s Memorial Park’s north side. The fairways range from 150 feet to 570 feet. Discs can be purchased or rented at the park office, located at N8375 Park Drive in Deerbrook.
Scenic Byway
NICOLET-WOLF RIVER SCENIC BYWAY
The Nicolet-Wolf River Scenic Byway, at 145 miles, is the second-longest scenic byway in Wisconsin. The route affords travelers outstanding views of the Wolf River, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, numerous state natural areas, lakes, and many other picturesque areas. You will find limited development along the route, excepting a few rural and tribal communities and small farms. The majority of the Nicolet-Wolf River Scenic Byway lies in Forest County, but it also extends through Langlade, Oneida, and Vilas counties.

Cast a Line in the County of Trails
Whether your preferred species is panfish or musky, with 766 natural lakes of which 207 of these are from springs, your Langlade County fishing opportunities are virtually limitless. While many of our lakes are accessible by public launch, most of our lakes are less than 100 acres in size and are located in remote forest settings. Nearly 400 miles of trout streams are well stocked with brook, brown, and rainbow trout.
The Wolf River: Among the Best in the Midwest for Trout Fishing
The Wolf River, in eastern Langlade County, is considered one of the finest trout streams in the Midwest. May and June bring excellent dry-fly fishing, but you can count on good catches into autumn. The famous trout waters span 40 miles between Highway T and Highway M to the south and are divided into 10 public access points. The steep gradient and resulting complex rapids of this section of the river should only be navigated by experienced anglers. However, the river moves more slowly from Post Lake Dam to Highway T, where it is easy to float with a canoe. There, anglers will delight in excellent populations of northern pike, walleye, bass, and musky.

1Antigo Lake Park at Antigo Lake/Spring Brook. Amenities include fishing piers, camping, picnic area, restrooms, playground, boardwalk, walking trails, and ball fields. Available species include bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, and brook trout.
2East Branch Eau Claire River at Lions Park. Amenities include an accessible fishing platform, picnic area, shelter, and restrooms. Available species include trout, creek chubs, and suckers.

Pence Lake. Amenities at Pence Lake include a fishing platform with shoreline fishing access, picnic area, rest rooms, and boat launch. Present species include brown trout, bluegill, perch, crappie, and bullhead.
7Remington Lake in the City of Antigo. Fishing at Remington Lake is only for kids under age of 16 and disabled anglers. Amenities here include shoreline fishing with fishing pier, picnic area, and canoe launch. Remington Lake is stocked with brook trout and rainbow trout.
8Shadick Spring Pond. Shadick Spring Pond is located 10 miles northeast of Antigo on the north side of County Road A. An accessible fishing platform is available here. Species present include brook trout, rainbow trout, perch, and bullhead.

Townline Lake. Townline Lake is on county forest property on County Road T, 6 miles west of Summit Lake. Shoreline fishing access, picnic area, and canoe launch are available. Fish for rainbow trout, bluegill, and largemouth bass.

White Lake at White Lake Park. White Lake Park is on County Road M in the village of White Lake. An accessible fishing pier, picnic area, shelter, restrooms, boat launch, and public swimming beach are amenities found here. Fish for bluegill, pumpkinseed, rock bass, perch, crappie, bullhead, suckers, largemouth bass, northern pike, and walleye.

Wolf River at Post Lake Dam Wayside. You can find an accessible fishing platform and shoreline fishing access on the Wolf River downstream from Post Lake dam, located on Clear Lake Road in Post Lake. Species found here include bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, crappie, bullhead, rock bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, suckers, northern pike, muskellunge, redhorse, and walleye.
Hunting
Whether you carry a shotgun, rifle or bow, over 181,000 acres of territory open for public hunting provides you with unlimited opportunities in Langlade County’s diverse forests and watersheds. Wildlife available to hunt include deer and bear, ruffed grouse and woodcock, squirrel, rabbit, turkey and waterfowl. Hunting is allowed on all county lands entered into the County Forest Crop Law, private and industrial lands entered into the Forest Crop Law or Managed Forest Lands Law, and designated State of Wisconsin lands. These lands can be accessed from any road found on the official County Road Map. The many roads that bisect these lands are open to foot access, and some are open to motorized access.
Ackley Wildlife Area
The diverse natural landscape features 27 shallow waterfowl flowages covering more than 400 acres of water, along with native grasslands, aspen, and northern hardwood forests. This rich habitat makes it a prime destination for hunting and wildlife viewing, with opportunities to spot or pursue deer, turkey, black bear, ruffed grouse, woodcock, and waterfowl. Beavers, muskrats, fishers, and coyotes are also commonly found here and throughout the surrounding 27,000 acres of county forest land. Located in southwestern Langlade County with parking lots along Hwy 64.
Hunter Walking Trails
This area features 24 miles of primarily forest roads that are widened, mowed, and maintained each year. The landscape is made up mostly of aspen forest, mixed with
hardwood ridges and swamps, creating ideal habitat for whitetail deer, ruffed grouse, American woodcock, and other young forest wildlife species. Access is available from County Highway T, Jack Lake Firelane, Camp 23 Road, and Stevens Springs Grade.
Peters Marsh Wildlife Area
Spanning 1,687 acres in central Langlade County, the area features a diverse mix of forests, fields, wetlands, and native grasslands. This varied landscape supports waterfowl, ruffed grouse, deer, turkey, black bear, woodcock, snowshoe hare, and beaver. Located on County Highway A about 9 miles northeast of Antigo, the property offers six parking areas with access to more than 10 miles of grass walking trails.
Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest
The Langlade County portion of the ChequamegonNicolet National Forest offers hunters a true Northwoods experience, with vast wooded landscapes, secluded cover, and miles of public land to explore. From whitetail deer and black bear to ruffed grouse, turkey, and other game species, this area provides outstanding opportunities across a variety of habitats.
Langlade County Bow & Gun Range
The Langlade County Bow and Gun Range offers facilities for archery, air gun, and firearm use. The range includes benches for sighting in firearms at 25, 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards, along with a trap area for hand-thrown clay targets and archery range. Located about 4 miles south of Antigo at W9639 Range Road, this facility is maintained by the Langlade County Forestry, Parks and Recreation Department. Passes are required for use.

Crocker Hills Recreation Area

The Crocker Hills Recreation Area comprises Langlade County property and private property east of Antigo. The system encompasses 15.3 miles of horseback riding and dog sledding trails over a variety of terrain. The horse trail, located between Norway Lake and Evergreen Creek, includes steep hills and valleys that afford the rider beautiful views of a hardwood forest. Trail facilities include a parking area and a pit toilet restroom, with water accessible by hand pump. The trailhead also features an open-air shelter and a picnic area.

Maranatha Trail System

The Maranatha Trail System consists of nine clearly marked, interconnected loops that wind a cumulative 6.7 miles through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in the vicinity of the town of Langlade, with routes ranging from beginner-friendly to expert-level for horseback riders of all levels.
Moccasin Lake Recreation Area

Moccasin Lake Recreation Area is located west of Elcho and encompasses cross-country ski trails and forest roads. The trail’s rolling terrain features two river basins. A recreational shelter, pit toilet, hand water pump, and parking area are available.

Explore Local History in Langlade County’s Museums
Langlade County Historical Society
404 Superior Street, Antigo
The Langlade County Historical Society’s main museum building originally housed the Carnegie Library, which was constructed with a $15,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie in 1905. In 1997, the library was moved to updated quarters, and the building became the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. From May to September, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm. From October to April, the museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm. The museum features exhibits on Langlade County’s rich history from the Ice Age, to the heydays of the logging and railroad industries, to local musical and material culture. The Deleglise Cabin (built in 1878 by Antigo’s founder, Francis Deleglise), a 1956 train caboose, and a 1900 steam locomotive are also located on the grounds of the Langlade County Historical Museum and available to tour during the summer.

Set in the beautifully restored Elcho Grange Hall No. 671, the new Elcho Historical Society Museum opens July 4, 2026, offering visitors a chance to discover the rich heritage of this Northwoods community. Built in 1913 and now recognized on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the hall itself is part of the story, reflecting generations of social, cultural, and civic life in Elcho. Its grand opening on July 4 also coincides with America 250, the semiquincentennial of the United States, adding a special patriotic significance to the celebration as the nation marks its 250th anniversary. Inside, guests can explore exhibits that bring local history to life and enjoy a meaningful stop that connects the past with the welcoming spirit of the community today.

Elton School Preservation Society
Elton Schoolhouse, Highway 64, Elton
The Elton Schoolhouse was constructed in 1912. It showcases Elton’s unique history. The village is named for Elton C. Larzelere, whose father Charles was instrumental in the organization of Langlade County and Evergreen Township. The schoolhouse building also served as the Evergreen Town Hall. It is now a community center and a museum of local artifacts, including a chalkboard signed by residents and visitors who attended the school. The Elton Schoolhouse can be visited by appointment only; please call (715) 793-4130.
Springbrook School
1633 Neva Road, Antigo
In 1905, $900 was raised to build Springbrook School. The school was operational for 57 years, under 31 different teachers. The doors were closed in 1962 when area schools were consolidated into the Antigo Unified School District. In July 1963, the school building was moved to the Langlade County Fairgrounds, where it stands today. The school building can be toured by appointment; please call Joe Sveda at (715) 6104173.
The Depot Museum is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 3.pm. and by appointment. Please note that the facility is unheated.
White Lake Area Historical Center
700 Lake Street, White Lake
The White Lake Area Historical Society displays many artifacts from White Lake area history, including information about families, military, schools, businesses and events throughout the history of the area. Over 110 pioneer family banners are hung up around the interior walls. Exhibits are changed as new artifacts are added. The Historical Center is located next to Depot Museum and is open Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Old Corners School, Neva Corners
The Old Corners School, on the corner of Highways A and B in Neva Corners, was the first frame schoolhouse in Neva. Settlers built the school in 1883. At one point, the school housed 90 students. In 1979, the Old School Restoration Committee began a project to refurbish the schoolhouse, and a rededication ceremony was held during Neva’s centennial in 1983. The building is open for tours on Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July weekend, and Labor Day weekend from noon to 4pm.
White Lake Depot Museum
700 Lake Street, White Lake
In 1907, the current site of the White Lake Area Historical Society, the Whiskey Northern Depot was built. The Wisconsin & Northern Railroad moved this charming depot to White Lake in 1916. In 1996, when the building was slated for replacement, White Lake formed a Historical Society and moved the original building to its current location.. The restored Depot Museum consists of 132 feet of track in front with a Pede car and a car house. The Depot Museum contains original railroad, logging, farming, lumber and flooring mill, and community artifacts. A donated small narrow-gauge boxcar on narrow-gauge track was added to the Depot Museum grounds in 2018 and is used for display purposes.
