A hurricane is a very big storm, with strong winds. It usually lasts longer than two weeks. A hurricane might gather energy or heat if it's near warm water. The speed of a hurricane is about 75 to 200 mph. A hurricane could destroy animals and people's homes because of its strong winds, storm surge, and it could cause flooding. A hurricane can be up to several hundred miles wide. The effects of a hurricane can be deadly to an ecosystem.
Damage to Man If the hurricane knocks down something such as an oil tank it will cause a disaster. It will cost a lot to recover from the damage the hurricane caused. The hurricane could destroy houses and buildings. The buildings might fall and damage something else.
Damage to Marshlands If a hurricane destroys the animals food supply, they will have no food and they could die or have to move away to a new habitat. Animals don’t have anything to prevent or block the hurricane. If a hurricane destroys their home, land, and resources they will die. It might knock down trees and there are living things in the trees, which would change the ecosystem. They have to find a new home, because many animals will either die or leave the ecosystem.
Damage to Beaches and Dunes If you are on a beach a hurricane could come. The hurricane’s winds would move the sand into the water. A hurricane could push a lot of sand out of the water and flood the place with sand.
How To Prepare Yourself For a Hurricane If you live in a hurricane area you should always be prepared for a hurricane. First make a supply kit. Your supply kit should have water, food, money, first aid kit, flashlight, and extra batteries. Stay away from windows in a hurricane. Flying glass can cut you. Buy flood insurance. These are some ways to prepare yourself for a hurricane.
