The Hot Ones Hi Members Right, well, the official countdown has now started to Christmas! I was talking to Rowie about the Christmas party the other week, and when we realised that there are only 2 more Hot Ones to come out between that day and the party, we need to get our skates on as that means it’s only 2 Months Away! So, look out for more details in this edition... It’s been a very busy month for me - wedding season has started again, so lots of late nights are to be had at the moment to get everything done, so if I’ve missed anything with this edition, I’m sorry... It’s a last minute prep for this one - 7pm on Sunday night, and instead of schlepping on the couch getting sorted for tomorrow, I’m at a desk *argh!* scrambling madly to keep all my balls in the air - which is something I’m sure most of you can relate to! With regards to the newsletters, in this issue you will find that the last page (inside) is a teartear-away page for you to send back to me via the club post box in order to subscribe to the magazine, update your club contact information, and provide any suggestions you can think of for club runs etc - if you don’t send the form back to me by the end of October, you won’t get the next newsletter! So please help me out and send it back (or email me info@567chevclub.org.au).

Til next month... Juli

President’s Report G’day all, well another month has flown past and it only seems like last week I did the last report, but boy a lot has happened! Everything’s Everything fairly flat out when it comes to organizing the convention. A lot of P.R. work has commenced, and I’m rapt about how its evolving. I’ve just got back from Ballarat where my daughter and I (Payden, the L-plater needing valuable points!) spent the day in the town catching up with locals organizing and informing them of the mass assault on their town in March. This included meeting with the manager of the mall were we are having a display on the 20th of October, meeting the Ballarat police, talking to the Ballarat Courier newspaper, and talking to Power FM (3ba), which is the major station in Ballarat, and all are keen to help us out. We even got to visit the Welcome Stranger big 4 caravan park to have a look (buy the way if you haven’t booked, do so because I can see a lot of the fun happening in this park, maybe a running on empty night in the cinema room hosted and narrated by David!). Anyway it seems everywhere you go in this town they have open arms, which is a little different than most motoring enthusiasts are used too! The rest of the committee have being working hard on other areas of importance with the convention, which we will hear about in up and coming meetings and issues. One area we need to get through is finding a major, or 2 major sponsors for the convention. So if anyone has any leads, contact the committee and well chase it up. There are many other levels of sponsorship available if anyone is interested in which many of us members are involved in. Now about the display, I need approximately 12 cars for the display which I’ve been shown much interest already, and due to setting up before the public arrives, it will be an early morning start. We also need club member numbers to help out on promoting our club and the convention so if you could even cruise up in the family wagon or catch a lift with someone it would be great. Ring me if you can help out because I think it’s going to be a great day! Details are in this issue. We, We (or should I say our hard working editor!) have come up with the finished first print Convention flyer minus Sponsors, which is perfect timing for this month’s activity’s. I’m organizing a run the week before the display to the Marsh Rodders show and shine/swapmeet that I attended last year and thought it was a great day. But I must say that an early arrival is necessary because it gets big. Once again the information is in this newsletter/mag for those interested. The Port Fairy run is on once again in which I can sadly say we can’t go, but rest assure it will be a great weekend. Memberships by now should be up to date so please let’s get them in order, the club relies on them! At the last meeting, a point of discussion was the newsletter being posted to members. Well, all paid up members of last year will receive this newsletter with a returnable slip in it and convention entry form. So if you want to receive the Hot Ones by mail please return the slip with all the details to the address noted and IF YOUR MEMBERSHIP FEES ARE UP TO DATE you will receive it until the same process is repeated next year. Anyway that’s about it for now so put your seatbelt on, feet firmly on the thick steel floor (not plastic) and get ready for another car mad season of the greatest car club in the world The 55,56,57 Chevrolet Club of VIC. Oh well someone’s got to Rah! Rah! The troops!

“Drive ‘em hard”, Greg Rowe.

Route 66 Sp ‘The Mother Road’ as it’s affectionately known, stretches from Chicago - Illinois in the East, to Santa Monica - California, in the West. Also known as ‘Will Roger’s Highway’, it’s official title was US Route 66. Established in 1926, it served as the gateway to riches for ‘Okey’s’ to escape the panhandle in search of a better life, stretching some 2,448 miles across 8 states. Decommissioned officially in 1985, it is now one of America’s most famous landmarks.

pecial, Part 2 Where to Eat... Last month we discovered a few of the cooler, more original places to stay to get the most of your Route 66 Experience... Now here are a few of the coolest places to eat and soak up some almost-gone genuine down-home Roadside Grub...

Mr D’z Route 66 Diner, .Kingman Arizona The turquoise and hot pink exterior of this diner are enough to get your attention, but the food is rated as ex cellent, and the interior features retro booths and a juke box.

Lout Mitchell’s, Chicago Illisnois Open since 1923, this Chicago institution is where all the long-haul truckers fill up before they hit the interstate... So the food’s good! (And ladies all receive a complimen tary box of Milk Duds!)

Snow Cap Drive In, Seligman Arizona Famous for their Strawberry Shakes and ‘Dead Chicken’, this diner is an Arizona institution. Opened in 1953 and built fromtimbers of the Sante Fe railyard, it now offers yard seating and music from a genuine, fully restored Wurlitzer.

Legends Classic Diner, Glendora California Famous not just for their location or their food, this diner also hosts a classic car show on the 1st Sunday of every month! With a classic burger topping out at just $6.95, I’ll be stopping by on my next trip to the US!
