WHY PRIDE IS IMPORTANT

June is widely known as Pride Month. People in the LGBTQ+ community take this time to attend parades and commemorate the Stonewall Riots that consisted of many protests for the pure intention of legalizing LGBTQ+ rights. Now some may ask, “Why don't we have Straight Pride?” My personal view is, straight people don't get discriminated against for who they love because it is considered “normal” I spoke to two individuals that are part of the LGBTQ+ group and here are their perspectives:

“It makes me happy since I know there are others who feel the same way I do, and I’m not alone with these emotions Many people in the community are super nice and try to help others by offering advice or providing a safe space We all just want to be happy and feel comfortable Then I witness other trans getting murdered or hurt for being trans.”

“There is much homophobia and discourse within the LGBTQ+ community itself, with groups discriminating against others for ‘not being gay enough’ The LGBTQ+ community isn't as accepting as it may appear, there is discourse on if asexual/aromantic people are part of the community or not, transphobia, discrimination against bisexuals for ‘being confused’, and other stereotypes ”

In this QR code I will be talking more about the Stonewalll Riots and Famous LGBTQ+ People

Junio es ampliamente conocido como el Mes del Orgullo. Las personas de la comunidad LGBTQ+ aprovechan este tiempo para apoyar los desfiles y conmemorar los disturbios de Stonewall que consistieron en muchas protestas con la pura intención de legalizar los derechos LGBTQ+. Ahora, algunos pueden preguntar: "¿Por qué no tenemos Straight Pride?" Mi punto de vista personal es que las personas heterosexuales no son discriminadas por lo que aman porque es lo que considera "normal". Hablé con dos personas que son parte del grupo LGBTQ+ y estas son sus perspectivas:

“Me hace feliz porque sé que hay otros que sienten lo mismo que yo y no estoy solo con estas emociones. Muchas personas en la comunidad son súper amables y tratan de ayudar a los demás ofreciendo consejos o brindando un espacio seguro. Todos queremos ser felices y sentirnos cómodos. Luego soy testigo de que otras personas trans son asesinadas o lastimadas por ser trans”.

“Hay mucha homofobia y discurso dentro de la propia comunidad LGBTQ+, con grupos que discriminan a otros por ‘no ser lo suficientemente gay’. La comunidad LGBTQ+ no es tan tolerante como parece, hay discursos sobre si las personas asexuales/románticas son parte de la comunidad, transfobia, discriminación contra los bisexuales por 'estar confundidos' y otros estereotipos”.
