What is PrEP

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis

PrEP can help prevent you from getting HIV if you are exposed to the virus

PrEP is an HIV prevention option that works by taking one pill every day, on-demand, or by an injection every two months. It is important to speak with a provider to discuss which method is right for you

PrEP is over 90% effective if taken as prescribed.

PrEP does NOT protect against other STI’s and does NOT treat HIV. Regular testing and treatment is always important

A Person Could Benefit from PrEP if they’ve...

Had an STI in the past 6 months

Have a sexual partner living with HIV

Had unprotected sex with a partner of unknown status

Exchanged drugs, money, gifts, food or shelter for sex

Injected drugs and/or shared drug equipment

Are using PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) for sexual exposures

How are Youth Being Affected

In 2020, 15.3% of new HIV diagnoses in the US were among those aged 13-24 years of age

HIV/STI Testing, Treatment, Education, and/or Prevention Services?
