ROYAL ASCOT

THE STORY OF HOW THE FESTIVAL FIRST STARTED

The 300-year spectacular of racing at Ascot started back in 1711, when Queen Anne put the cogs into motion to pursue her love of horse racing. Ascot Racecourse is unquestionably the most celebrated English racecourse, situated in Berkshire, accommodating nine of the UK’s 32 annual Group 1 races. Ascot is closely associated with the British Royal Family as it is precisely six miles from Windsor Castle. The Royal Enclosure is the most prestigious of the three enclosures and is where the Queen and her entourage sit. Entry to the Royal Enclosure is strictly regulated: first-time applicants must apply to the Royal Enclosure office and be nominated by a current member; Ascot is famous for its exuberant gowns and headpieces. Millinery creations commonly include, flowers and even a paint “Existing badge holders receive an palette. Premier Admission is not as formal as the Royal Enclosure, but visitors still dress up, and fascinators are invitation each year from Her the custom. Majesty’s Representative.” The history of Royal Ascot is of great curiosity to all horse racing fans. Queen Anne, an equestrian sports fan, came across a clearing that looked perfect for racing while taking a carriage ride through the forest near Windsor Castle. The clearing was bought for just £558, and she ordered it to be prepared for racing. On 11 August that same year the Royal racecourse hosted to its first race, ‘Her Majesty’s Plate’. However, following the death of Anne, racing at Ascot faded as King George I loathed all sports especially horse racing. Racing returned to Ascot in 1720 and it soon became one of Britain’s most famous racing venues. King George IV initiated the first royal carriage procession on the track in 1825 and the tradition has continued ever since, the rest is history

THE FULL MEETING SELECTIONS BY RYAN LEWIS Tuesday 2.30 - Benbatl 5/1 - A very competitive Queen Anne. Benbatl has completely transformed himself over at Meydan and if can bring that form back over here he will take all the beating. 3.05 - Calyx 11/4 - A cracking race on paper. I was all so impressed with Calyx on debut at Newmarket and I really think he's a group one horse. Calyx will take all the beating. 3.40 - Battaash 5/2 - A match race on paper but what a match it is. If Battaash doesn't boil over before the start I think he wins and wins well. The only concern is Lady Aurelia loves Ascot. Battaash at 5/2 however is too big to ignore.

He got better as the season went on last year and I think he could put his bitterly disappointing reappearance run behind him here.

Wednesday 2.30 - Chelsea Cloisters 9/4 - A very hot Queen Mary. From what I've been told this Chelsea Cloisters is an absolute machine. I watched the replay of his debut at Keeneland and it was one of the most impressive debuts you will see. The dogs have been barking about this one. 3.05 - Nelson 8/1 (Each Way) - A really competitive Queens vase. Nelson was being talked up as something special before a disappointing run in the Derrinstown Derby Trial. Saturday 2.30 - Beyond Reason 7/1 (Each Way) - A wide open Chesham. Beyond Reason looks the one to beat for me however. He made an encouraging debut finishing second even though he was green as grass before going on to win a hot Kempton maiden. I think he's a top horse.

THE ROYAL HUNT CUP RACE PREVIEW BY DARYL CARTER

A sensational spectacle when thirty runner’s line up over the straight mile on the second day of the royal meeting for arguably the most competitive handicap of the season. A wide open betting heat as always and Zhui Feng, last years winner will seemingly make a bold bid from the front as he looks to retain his crown. He returned in fine fettle this season when only just denied by Ripp Orf in the Victoria Cup over 7f here off a mark of 106, that performance on RPR’s was a career best. He runs here off a mark of 108, 8lb higher than when first past the post last season, so will likely have to produce another stellar performance to take this but he is not one to discount. Trainer Charles Hills saddles Afaak and is currently the ante-post favourite for this race, the striking looking four year old got back to winning ways at York recently, claiming a Class 2 event by just under two lengths from Love Dreams who may well line up again. The form of The Silver Cambridgeshire second at Doncaster last June looks extremely strong throwing up multiple winners from down the field. There is a possibility he could be the group horse in the field and is likely to be in the mix with his favoured good to firm ground likely. Lord Glitters will be of strong interest to punters if any rain arrives for the meeting. Connections paid a hefty two hundred and seventy thousand Euros for the French import last summer and he went on to land the valuable Balmoral Handicap on only his second start for David O’Meara. Although connections have hinted that very soft ground would not be ideal, some cut would only help his cause. He has found himself out of the frame on just two occasions (both in France) in 13 career starts. Since arriving in Britain the five year olds form figures read 2122. There is plenty of substance to the form, recently posting his best effort to date when finishing two and a quarter lengths behind the fast improving Addeybb now rated 117. Trainer Richard Hannon will look to target this race with last year’s fifth Tabarrak who arrives here on the same mark of 111. He comes here off the back of a win in the Spring Trophy over 7f at Haydock when edging out the progressive Mubtasim. That was in listed company and the drop back into Handicap Company will be extremely tough off such a high mark but he showed last year he has the class and ability to cope with such a lofty rating. Good to firm ground will suit the son of Acclamation but may well find a few too good again back in this company. John Gosden may well send promising young Pouvoir Magique to the race for the first time, the lightly raced four year old has shown significant improvement since dropped to the mile, winning his last two starts in impressive fashion. Recently taking care of the Victoria Cup winner Ripp Orf, he gave him 2lbs that day and

went on to win by one and a half lengths being only pushed out to do so. Although slightly disappointing at Newcastle last time he was extremely keen that day and can be forgiven that run on the A/W surface. Stamina is in the pedigree, so he can be expected to be finishing strong in what will be a swift end to end gallop. With only 7 starts it is reasonable to believe there is more to come and likely to get plenty of weight off a mark of 94 he is an exciting prospect and possibly a very well handicapped one. Bravery may well come here fresh by design if David O’Meara believes he can reproduce last years reappearance effort, He travelled powerfully through a high class field to claim the Betway Lincoln that day. The five year old seems to do his best work early in his season and now, may be the time to catch him. 5lb below his last winning mark the handicapper has reacted to his form tailing off toward the end of last seasons campaign. Good ground will suit and the mile looks to be his optimum trip. It would be no surprise were he to make his presence felt at the business end. Gilgamesh for trainer George Scott is steadily improving, he is currently 3-6 on turf, a strong traveller who could see this step up in trip bring out some more improvement. He caught the eye when a close up seventh in the Victoria Cup when choosing the wrong side of the track to race on that day, but did make amends next time out when getting the better of smart performer So Beloved. He has the ability to make the frame off this sort of mark but does need to pull out a bit extra.

That was his first run after 250 days

THE KINGS STAND RACE PREVIEW BY DARYL CARTER

The Kings Stand is open to 3yo and over and is run at a blistering speed over the straight 5f course at Royal Ascot on the first day of the Royal Meeting, drawing runner's from over seas it is the fourth leg of the British Champion Series. This year's market focuses predominantly on Battash who is around 5/2 favourite in places, and last year’s winner Lady Aurelia 11/4. Wesley Ward trained Lady Aurelia looks to emulate Sole Power in winning this race back to back. Frankie Dettori has always been outspoken about how much he loves this filly. And he could not hide his emotion when she ran out a 3l winner of this race last year from the admirable and consistent Profitable. She will receive 3lb in weight from market rival Battash when lining up on the first day of the Royal Meeting, and trainer Wesley Ward has been very open when talking about his filly saying ' She has wintered really well, there are muscles on top of muscles on her, she’s a stronger filly this year'. Although beaten on her first run of the season when odds on at Keen-

land she has taken a real liking to the Ascot Course and is expected to come on plenty for that run. She is rightly at the head of the market and is a smooth traveller throughout her race's it is hard to look beyond her even in this competitive field..

bought him along nicely for this race and we can expect him to be at peak fitness now, it’s possible we have not seen the best of this superb sprinter just yet, especially if connections felt the need for a small wind operation to help his breathing.

Charlie Hills' trained superstar Battash was only beaten once last season when finishing fourth in the Nunthorpe stakes to winner Marsha, Lady Aurelia was just piped on the line that day and claimed second place while Cotai Glory ran on for third after Battash faded inside the final two hundred yards. He played up before the start that day and was known to be extremely temperamental last season effectively loosing his race before it was run and can be easily forgiven that effort.

At current times Blue Point looks the e/w value at around 8/1 in place's, he has won two of his three starts at the track beaten only 1 1/4 lengths by the impressive Carravagio and Harry Angel when 3rd in last seasons commonwealth cup. While he has not been at his best on two starts this season (trying a bend for the first time) a return to this venue may spark him back into life, although he may just fall short of the very top sprinters a group 1 level he is a solid each way option in what looks a race all about the market

He was able to show just how good he was when turning the form around in emphatic fashion, running out a 4l winner of the Prix de l'Abbey in Chantilly on final start last season. The stable star has since undergone a wind surgery before his reappearance this season; he battled well to claim his first win of the campaign by a nose from the useful Washington DC. That run would have

THE RIBBLESDALE STAKES RACE PREVIEW BY DARYL CARTER

John Gosden bids for back to back successes in the Ribblesdale Stakes and if successful will become only the 2nd trainer to do so in the last 27 years of the meeting

Gosden looks likely to saddle LAH TI DAH and Sacred Path here. She only has two starts to her name winning both in impressive fashion. Her most recent start came at Newmarket on 1000 Guineas day and she showed a great attitude that day to knuckle down and eventually run out an impressive winner by 3 ¼ lengths from the improving Expressiy of Charlie Appleby’s who may also take up this engagement. She still showed signs of greenness that day and is open to plenty of improvement. Perfect Clarity looks a smart prospect for trainer Clive Cox she has two wins from three runs, her only defeat coming in the Investec Oaks where the ground may have just come too soft for her that day and can be forgiven that run. She was an impressive winner in the Oaks trail at Lingfield over this distance where she won going away at the line after jockey Adam Kirby lost his whip inside the final furlong. The Daughter of Nathaniel is already acquired a rating of 100 and Ascot’s galloping course will suit her well. She looks sure to progress over this sort of trip and there will be no question marks over her staying the distance.

to the form of her French group 1 win last October when beating Olmedo (French 2000 Guineas winner) and Masar (3rd English 2000 Guineas and Investec Derby winner) she will undoubtedly be extremely tough to beat. Sacred Path took a while to warm to the task on her first start for John Gosden but when the penny finally dripped she picked up extremely well in the closing stages to finish 1L second. That run would have taught her plenty and while she has since disappointed when beaten at odds on second time out she may not be one to write off just yet. With a top stable who are renowned for steadily improving their filly’s she could throw up a surprise by hitting the frame.

Conclusion:

A cracking renewal of the race with plenty of potential group one winner’s in waiting here. However HAPPILY could be the answer if taking up this engagement over the Coronation Cup, stepping up in trip for the first time is a huge positive for this filly and we could see her in a much better light here. Finishing extremely quickly in the final furlong over the 1m distance on her two starts this campaign signals she will appreciate this longer distance. Her experience will count for plenty to handle the Pre- Lim’s before the race; she has been there and done that in regards to the big day occasions. I don’t Happily has been slightly disappointing in her last two think she will have it all her own way however, runs in the English and Irish 1000 Guineas finishing 3rd Lah Ti Dah has shown plenty of promise and looks more than useful. She could put it up to her in an exciting on both occasions. The Aidan O’Brian trained filly looked full of promise last season but could only mange clash in what could prove to be the top two 3 yr old filly’s around. a staying on 3rd in both outings this term. She looks to be crying out for this step up in trip. If she can get back

Nick Bradley

was a successful professional gambler for many years, who has taken what he has learned about the world of gambling to the bloodstock and racing industries. To date, horses bought by Nick have won twice at Group 1 level and he is most well known for buying G Force for £25,000 from the HIT Sale and winning the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup within 12 months. Nick started buying horses in 2009 and has amassed hundreds on victories on the track and has had huge success with Nick Bradley Racing. Despite the company being in just it’s third season on the track. Royal Ascot winners are very hard to come by but it took Nick just one season to get into the winner’s enclosure with Commissioned, trained by Gordon Elliott who won the Queen Alexandra in 2016. Commissioned was bought less than 2 months before Royal Ascot and landed a substantial gamble by Nick and the owners on the day. Commissioned wasn’t only significant success in the early years of Nick Bradley Racing with the likes of Vona winning the Marygate Listed race at York having been bought for just 15,000 Euros. Melesina won at Group and Listed level again having been bought for 22,000 a fraction of what she would be sold for at the end of 2017 when she made 400,000 in the ring. Doctor Phoenix epitomises what Nick Bradley Racing is all about, picked up for just £10,000 rated 140, he won on three occasions, picking up over £100,000 in prize money and looked like he was going to get the better of the 9 times Grade 1 winner Un de Sceaux before falling with the winning post in sight. Nick is keen to let the figures speak for themselves and as you can see from the numbers shown below, the results are impressive: In 2015 Nick Bradley spent £315,000 on Yearlings to race in 2016-17. They won 21 races, and have been sold/independently valued at £1,386,000 as of Jan 1st 2018. In 2016 Nick Bradley spent £832,000 on Yearlings to race in 2017-18. To date they have won 14 races, and have been sold/independently valued at £1,803,000 as of Jan 1st 2018.

OUR HORSES AT ROYAL ASCOT

LITTLE KIM - Queen Mary (Group 2) 5f

In her only start on the 7th June at Carlisle, LITTLE KIM won very comfortably by 11/2 lengths. The distance doesn’t do justice the ease with which she put away her rivals. From the moment she crossed the line the only topic of conversation for connections has been Royal Ascot. Out of Garswood a Group 1 winner over 6f in France and Primo Lady. She is the half-sister to the very talented OUT OF THE FLAMES who placed in not only the Breeder’s Cup Turf Sprint for 2yo’s in November but also in the Queen Mary last year. Her pedigree looks very suited to the curtain raiser on Wednesday and we are very hopeful of a bold showing. To beat the highly rated CHELSEA CLOISTERS all the way from America is going to be a very difficult challenge but we couldn’t be happier with the progress being made by LITTLE KIM.

RAISING SAND - Royal Hunt Cup (Class 2) 1m

RAISING SAND joined Nick Bradley Racing in 2016 for 16,000 Guineas. Since joining he has been a revelation winning four times picking up £65,000 in prize money for connections. He goes best with cut underfoot and off his current mark of 100 we are very confident he can win off it. His seasonal return at Ascot was used to gauge his fitness to get him primed for the Royal Hunt Cup. We are confident that this was down to a lack of fitness and now fully wound up and ready to go he looks well handicapped and he should hopefully go very close.

NICK’S BEST BETS AT ROYAL ASCOT Banker: Wednesday 20th June 3:40 Duke of Cambridge-Hydrangea Hydrangea has by far the best form of any entries in the Duke of Cambridge. Having won 2 Group 1’s including beating the 1000 Guineas winner Winter over a mile in September at Leopardstown she really should have too much for any of her rivals. The second favourite in the race Aljazzi has only won a Group 3. On official ratings Aljazzi has 8lb to find on Hydrangea, Hydrangea does however carry a 5lb penalty for being a Group 1 winner. There are question marks as to whether or not she takes her chance or she swerves for the Prince of Wales. At this stage it seems very unlikely due to the participation of Cracksman. Should Hydrangea be declared here it will certainly go off a lot shorter than the current 7/2! Saturday 23rd June 3:05 Hardwicke Stakes-Barsanti Last month Barsanti won over course and distance beating Mirage Dancer, Salouen and God Given. Since then all three horses have gone onto win their following race specifically Salouen who pushed Cracksman in the Coronation stakes on Oak’s Day. Whilst Barsanti is going to have to improve on his 115

rating. T J Kent assistant trainer to Roger Varian stated that “That was the perfect prep race and hopefully he can go one better. He seems a stronger animal this year and we look forward toRoyal Ascot.” Barsanti is certainly no 10/1 shot for which looks like a very open race. Tuesday 19th June 5:00 Ascot Stakes- Who Dares Wins A wide-open renewal and usually the winning horse comes from the background of National Hunt Racing. Historically horses at the top of the weights have a very good record in the race. This is a positive for Who Dares Wins who loves fast going ground will take 9”10. Provided the forecast remains accurate and we get no rain, Who Dares Wins is priced up fractionally too big relative to his rivals. Getting the better of his stablemate Coeur De Lion last September at Newmarket whilst giving well over a stone the two re-oppose with only 7lb the difference. The form of Who Dares Wins run at Chester’s May meeting also looks boosted with Magic Circle going and winning at the Brigadier Thursday evening meeting at Sandown two weeks ago beating rivals rated 114 and 112 and all seemingly going well will be off to the Melbourne Cup! Given this information I really believe Who Dares Wins is in fact well handicapped off 100 and not only should go close but won’t be as large as 12/1 on the day! Tom Marquand has been booked to ride already for Alan King and the pair have a strike rate of 17% which bar Michael Appleby is better than any other strike rate Marquand has with any trainer.

WESLEY WARD

ANOTHER USA RAID EXPECTED AT ROYAL ASCOT

USA based trainer Wesley Ward has already attained nine victories to his name at Royal Ascot, this year he has made it no secret proclaiming “he can add several more to his total this time around. Ward is due to ten horses to the royal meeting, several of them come with hefty reputations and nothing less than victory is expected. We have a gained quotes from the trainer, on a few of his intended runners.,

RYAN LEWIS STRADIVARIUS WILL WIN THE ROYAL ASCOT GOLD CUP

It's the week that all flat racing fans has been waiting for has arrived. It's Royal Ascot. I have a strong bet in the Gold Cup on Thursday Selection: Stradivarius Why I think Stradivarius will win? I think Stradivarius will win the gold cup and will win it well. He has some really excellent form. He won the queens vase at this meeting last year in some style before he then went on to win the Goodwood cup at glorious Goodwood. After that he finished a very close up third in the long distance cup at Ascot champions day. He was unlucky that day behind Order Of St George. He was held up in midfield and the gaps didn't come soon enough. I believe he is a much better horse this season and has grown into his big frame. His

seasonal debut in the Yorkshire Cup was simply sensational, he travelled all so well and quickened up very nicely to beat Desert Skyline very easily. I think his favoured track is Ascot and I really can't see him getting beat. Main Dangers The main dangers are Order Of St George and Vazirabad. Order Of St George is a fantastic horse but I just feel like he's coming to the end of his reign. He was so so lucky to win at Leopardstown last time out and prohibitive odds. Although he never came off the bridle he was lucky to hold on and I don't think he really finds much off the bridle. The other main danger is Vazirabad. We really don't know much about this horse but his form in his native France is superb. He also won the Meydan gold cup this season quite comfortably and I think he's the main danger to Stradivarius.

JESSICA’S JUBILATION CAN HARINGTON CLAIM HER FIRST ROYAL ASCOT SUCCESS?

Jessica Harrington has come a long way from her humble beginnings, attaining many notable successes including winning the Gold Cup, Irish National and most recently a classic success. Harrington has the strong mind-set of “I will, and I can”. This year the dual purpose trainer has assembled quite possibly her strongest team for the Royal Ascot festival to-date and her first big winner at this venue is very likely. Chicas Amigas (Albany) We were second in this race last year with Alpha Centauri so with any luck we can go one better with Chicas Amigas, who was second to Servalan at Naas. She is owned by a great bunch of women, the It's All About the Girls syndicate, and we will have some fun at Ascot on the day of the Albany. I can't wait!

Indigo Balance (Coventry) Not everything went right when he won at the Curragh and he had to be very professional to get the job done in the end. He's a lovely juvenile who has always shown plenty and he goes for the Coventry. The maiden he won at the Curragh is working out very well.

Landshark (Jersey Stakes) Brother Bear (Jersey Stakes) A Leopardstown maiden winner as a juvenile, he never He was sent off favourite for the Coventry last year and really got into the 2,000 Guineas last time. He's been in ran well to finish fourth. The fact he won the Listed race great form since and is likely to go for the Jersey. at Naas last month so well shows he has trained on from two to three and I think he's got a great chance in the Alpha Centauri (Coronation Stakes) Jersey. The trip is optimum for him. She lost a bit of weight after the Guineas however she has put all that weight back on now and looks great. We always knew what she was capable of, but she just needed good ground to show it. She goes for the Coronation Stakes and you'd like to think that she'd have a great chance. Marshall Jennings (Royal Hunt Cup) A lovely horse who just needs some cut in the ground so if they got a drop of rain at Ascot it would suit him better, he goes into Ascot with a real live chance . Tell us about yourself. I was born in mid wales. My father was a policeman and mother a teacher. I have always had a passion for horses from an early age. My first pony was one on loan from a trekking centre. I spent my childhood competing, show jumping and eventing. Along came my three lovely children and I took a break from horses.

How did the business start? I then owned point to pointers, had horses in training and one day decided to take out my own licence to train. I trained for twelve years from my home in Carmarthen, South Wales. During that period, I enjoyed much success as a trainer. Some of the horses include Maidstone Monument, Do it on Dani, Cleymor House,Il Penseroso, Rushneey River, Treaty Flyer, Dishdasha and Nortonthorpe Lad. I retired in 2012 but my interest in racing continued and to this day the racing post is visited daily. In my spare time I took a course in ceramics and thoroughly enjoyed working with clay. The majority of my pieces were horses and racing. It was a trip to the 21 Club in New York that gave me the idea of creating the modern-day lawn jockey. And here I am today turning them out like a Terracotta Army.

What price are your lawn jockeys ? There is only one standard jockey, but another will be produced in the next few weeks. The price is £495, and delivery can be discussed depending where you live. What makes your business, different to other’s? Whilst owning and training horses I frequently searched for personalised racing gifts. These would have looked great in my yard.

when Tomo placed the microphone in front of me I went weak! After that I took an awful lot of ‘stick’ about my welsh accent and I remained camera shy for quite some time! What is your favourite horse? My favourite horse of all time has to be Maidstone Monument my father’s horse. Bought for 500gns he went on to win 11 races and 19 placings. He loved the good to firm ground hence he spent a lot of time in the swimming pool!

How do you relax? Time to unwind is modelling with clay at the kitchen table. Sometimes I get carried away.

What is your ultimate aim? My aim is to produce a variety of personalised racing figures. Commissions are always considered.

What are your favourite silks? My favourite silks are those of my fathers who sadly passed away last year from prostate cancer. He was a true gentleman and was great company on many a journey to the races.

Most memorable moment in racing? My most memorable racing memory was not too long after I started training and Do it on Dani won a decent race in Market Rasen that was televised on Channel 4. Bearing in mind I had never been interviewed before

THE FAST HARRY ANGEL FEATURE BY DARYL CARTER

Clive Cox’s trained superstar Harry Angel is set to grace the Royal Ascot turf for a second season running, contesting the eagerly anticipated Diamond Jubilee stakes this time around and the Lambourn based trainer could not be more bullish about his chances. “We’re incredibly proud to have a horse of his calibre on our hands,” stated Cox “Everything came together last year and he proved what he’d been showing us was possible. He’s rated the world’s best sprinter over 6f and I’m delighted that from three to four there was more progress in his physical development – I think he’s even stronger again this year. Harry Angel has been nothing short of a sprinting sensation since his 2yo debut back in May 2016 running out a winner of five of his nine starts, including two group one victories. Not much fancied in the market on first start for connections over 5f but ran an excellent race when just denied on the line by the nose of smart Godolphin horse Reach High. A completely different story on second start however when a well punted favourite for the highly sought after group 2 Mill Reef stakes, where he would run out an emphatic winner after running extremely green and pulling hard for the majority of the contest. The future certainly looked bright for Harry Angel after that run and he captured many people’s attention with a run at Royal Ascot the following year looking a certainty. Beaten on his first start as a three year old on reappearance and finding only the very useful Blue Point too good after pulling extremely hard and failing to

settle, effectively expending too much energy throughout the race. Unfortunately, this would be a common reoccurrence for the talented sprinter on his next few starts; however, class pulled him through, including when demolishing a group 2 field at Haydock in the Sandy Lane Stakes and confirming himself as a group 1 sprinter on the up. Godolphin clearly had the same view as they snapped him up to join their elite ranks and John Ferguson, Godolphin’s chief executive said, Harry Angel is one of the most brilliant young horses in training and we are delighted to have purchased him. Not only is he a fantastic prospect for all the major Group 1 sprints, being a son of Dark Angel, he also has the added attraction of being a potential stallion. However, it was not to be at Royal Ascot that year when piped to the winning post by Aidan O’Brien’s highly talked about Carravagio in the Commonwealth Cup. Harry Angel lost nothing in defeat when just run down in the final stride’s, in turn reversing the form with Blue Point who finished third. Since then the talented young sprinter has gone on to win two group one’s including the July Cup at Newmarket and the Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock. With a pleasing reappearance under his belt this term the likely hood is that he will improve for the run and the Diamond Jubilee looks the intended target for trainer Clive Cox. With all four of his defeat’s coming at the Ascot course, Harry Angel will need to be at his very best to overcome a high class field likely to line up, but there is not many more classier than him currently in training .

ROYAL ASCOT BANKERS DAVID PUSHNON HAS THREE SEELCTIONS FOR THE MEETING Tuesday: LADY AURELIA 5/2 NAP King’s Stand Stakes – LADY AURELIA is possibly my strongest bet of the meeting. She is 2 out of 2 over CD including this race last year. She was given a shocker of a ride by Frankie Dettori when his cockiness cost her the race and the fact her only two defeats in the United Kingdom were under Dettori I am slightly relieved that John Valazquez makes the journey to take the ride. I simply believe she is the Class act in the field who should get the perfect lead in to the race from KACHY plus the fact that her main rival BATTAASH is trained by Charlie Hills who has had a shocking down turn in form with only 1 winner from 44 runners in the last two weeks.

ADVERTISE 16/1 NB Coventry Stakes – You need to focus on last time out winners as 20 of the last 21 winners filled that criteria and also lightly raced juveniles do tend to do well with 19 of the last 21 winners having run no more than twice. I am involved ante-post on SERGEI PROKOFIEV but since he has now had 3 runs I decided to look for an alternative. CALYX would be the obvious one but I have decided to look for a little bit of value in the form of ADVERTISE. If this runner was trained by John Gosden or A O’Brien he would be a lot shorter judged on his victory in a fairly strong Newbury Maiden when coming from last to first to beat a decent field a shade cosily including a few of today’s rivals. His Speed Rating on that day puts him behind some of the principles but their best Ratings were achieved on a second or third run and he finished the race running an average final speed of 11.54 seconds per furlong which puts him in third behind CALYX and THE IRISH ROVER but the race he won was a very slowly run affair and with the likelihood of a much stronger pace here and with likely improvement I believe he could run well at decent odds.

Wednesday: SENIORITY 33/1 IWAC Royal Hunt Cup – One for the Handicaps and SENIORITY is the one I like here. He looks to have been plotted and protected with this race in mind. He recently won a decent AW 0-105 Handicap a shade cosily which gave him the 6lbs penalty needed to guarantee a place in the line-up.

ROYAL ASCOT BANKERS BETS FROM THE LEADING TWITTER TIPSTERS

Liam Dunphy Mirage Dancer This son of Frankel has two entries at Royal Ascot Tuesday is the Wolferton Stakes (Listed) and Saturday is the Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2). With his trainer having the favourite for the latter the Wolferton looks the most likely target. Arguably two of his best performances have come at Ascot without him winning. In the Hampton Court last year he finished 1.25 lengths behind Benbatl. This season he started off at Ascot in a listed event finishing a neck short of Barsanti, the form of that race has been franked by Salouen who went to Epsom and almost caused a massive upset. Salouen finished a head behind the mighty Cracksman in the Coronation Cup. Mirage Dancer then went to Goodwood and picked up a listed event there in an easy fashion. With two very good runs under his belt this season this colt should be primed to get his trainer Sir Michael Stoute on the winner’s board before the sun sets on Ascot Tuesday evening.

Geraint Williams Lincoln Rocks The Duke of Cambridge Stakes (3.40 Wednesday) the horse, Lincoln Rocks for David O’Meara. David O’Meara won the race 3 years ago with 25/1 shot Amazing Maria and hasn’t fielded a runner again since but the most appealing part is the horses stats. 7 wins she’s managed to accumulate so far in her career, 5 right handed (Ascot being right handed). 7 wins shes accumulated, 5 over a mile. 7 wins, 4 on good to firm. She also has a 50% strike rate in June and 7 runs in class ones have yielded 1 win, 2 seconds and a third, not a bad strike rate. It all seems to point to a horse with peak conditions and will be in the height of fitness for a trainer who’s won the race previously. 14/1 currently and would be my ante post NAP at the moment

and a solid each way Selection.

Jamie Lindsey Society Power Trainer William Haggas is readying a large string of horses to head for Royal Ascot this week. Not many of them however, go into the meeting with an unbeaten record. Now with 5 wins from 6 starts, Society Power heads into the Jersey Stakes on Wednesday with a good chance of making it 6 from 7. After making a pleasing debut at Windsor last August, when a close second, he broke his maiden at Lingfield on his next outing. He rounded off his 2yo campaign by winning at another all-weather track, Chelmsford, winning by a cosy ¾ lengths. The son of tip top sprinter Society Rock has improved nicely over the winter. Winning at Wolverhampton, Ascot and taking out a nice £62k handicap at Goodwood in late May. That day he beat a horse called Emaaraty of John Gosden’s, who is the 4/1 favourite for this race. Society Power likes to be held up, so expect to see him coming late and fast in the Jersey. This will be another step up in class for him, having only won at class 2 level. Although I feel he will do himself justice. The form that William Haggas has been in I can see him having a successful week.

better informed to go close again. Melinoe 25s and Dannyday 8s are others I've had my eye on and I may have a small ew wager on both. Queen Mary Stakes 2.30 - Just Wonderful 7/1 Just Wonderful is entered in both the Queen Mary and Albany Stakes priced 3/1 I'd prefer it to be the Albany however should she make the line up in the QM she shades the Aidan Obrien string and looks well suited for sprints, making rapid headway and showing guts once popped the question on debut. Aidan Obrien seeks his first win in the QM and with favs generally doing well in past renewals Chelsea Cloisters looks sure to be popular for Wesley Ward.

Jersey Stakes 5.35 - Could it Be Love 9/1 I tipped her up in the Irish 1000 Guineas and won't forget the shift I put in trying to rally her home in front of telly! Sent off trailblazing it looked like a front run tactical mission to set up Happily nothing came close to matching her early pace then all of a sudden the entire feild looked run ragged, I was screaming for the finish line only to see Alpha Centauri emerge from the pack to pick it up in the dying strides and go on and win by a length. Gutted but some display all the same at 33/1. Now dropped back to 7f she's one of the top rated and my Nap of the week I can't wait to see what's she's Gruff Morgan Three To Follow got up her sleeve. She holds a host of group 1 entries over the summer - Commonwell bred staying horse I have a lot of time for. 2 wins, 2 places from 4 starts wealth Cup, Cornation Stakes, Juttmonte on the turf and 3 wins, 2 places from 9 Pretty Polly Stakes, Coral Eclipse, the on the AW he's been something of a rev- Darley and Qatar Sussex Stakes she's a well regarded filly at home. Aidan elation for Karen Mclintock yard and commands the utmost respect in staying Obriens won this previously with Gale handicaps. His latest run in the Chester Force Ten, Ishvana and Mozart. Cup was positive. Just shaded for 3rd spot raced far too keenly early on leaving An each-way Patent is probably nothing for the business end of things it the best way to enjoy these three was hard not to be impressed with Magic with an eye on Just Wonderful's Circles turn of foot, total wow factor! DF placement. If she runs in the was well supported that day and I think with SDS retaining the ride he'll be all the Albany its she's a straight win bet.

WORLD HORSE RACING www.ascot.co.uk/world-horse-racing Royal Ascot is renowned for being one of the most prestigious racing festivals in the world with every flat trainer, jockey and owner in the UK and Ireland dreaming of success during the course of those five days in June. However, since the turn of the century it has become clear that the Royal Ascot dream is not limited to just the UK and Ireland with more and more international runners taking their chance on the Ascot turf. Whilst many have come up short, there have been a number of top class overseas winners and as we head into Royal Ascot 2018 with numerous American and Australian raiders set to line up throughout the week, let’s take a look back at some of those exceptional international runners who have turned the dream into reality. 10. Takeover Target (AUS) - King’s Stand Stakes 2006 This Australian sprinter proved to be a true globetrotter winning races in all five of the major Australian cities as well as races in Singapore, Hong Kong and, of course, the United Kingdom. In a performance that ranked him the best sprinter in the world, Takeover Target stuck his nose out to hold on from Benbaun and Dandy Man who dead heated for second in a dramatic running of the King’s Stand Stakes which included several fallers back in the field. Takeover Target was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2012 after winning more than $6 million AUD with a record of 41 races and 21 wins. 9. Undrafted (USA) - Diamond Jubilee Stakes 2015 Having just seen NFL star Rob Gronkowski take up ownership of Gronkowski, the horse named after him, before a valiant second in the Belmont Stakes behind Triple Crown winner Justify, it was a former teammate of his who went one better as Undrafted won the 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Owned by New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Wes Welker, Undrafted looked to be out of it at halfway but under the control of the brilliant Frankie Dettori he was rousted along to take a narrow victory ahead of Australian raider Brazen Beau.

8. Miss Andretti (AUS) - King’s Stand Stakes 2007 Whilst Takeover Target was impressive, Miss Andretti was on a different level the following year as she smashed the course record in the 2007 running of the King’s Stand Stakes, with Takeover Target back in fourth as Australian horses filled three of the top four places. Her time of 57.44s is a record that still stands today, although Lady Aurelia came mighty close missing out by one hundredth of a second in 2017. 7. Goldikova (FR) - Queen Anne Stakes 2010 Perhaps one of the modern greats, Goldikova won a total 14 Group One races across Europe and the United States and although she was foaled in Ireland, she was sent to France under the expert guidance of Freddy Head. Whilst she landed a number of top class races in France and three straight Breeders’ Cup Miles, a record that still stands, it was perhaps her 2010 Queen Anne Stakes that goes down as her best. Looking comfortably like the best horse in the race, Goldikova took up the running just over two furlongs out and quickly sprinted clear under hands and heels from Olivier Peslier and, although the winning margin was only a neck at the line as Paco Boy thrusted late, the pair were well clear of the rest in a scintillating finish on a glorious day at Ascot.

up two of Royal Ascot’s premier sprint titles in the space of three years. Originally bred in France, Equiano started life in Spain before falling just short during his campaign in France, so it was very much of a surprise when he turned over an excellent field at odds of 22/1 in the 2008 King’s Stand Stakes, beating sprinting stalwart Takeover Target by half a length. After a desperately disappointing season in 2009, Equiano looked much happier in 2010, winning several races before taking an impressive one and a half length victory from Markab. He remains one of 11 horses to have won two King’s Stand Stakes. 5. Tepin (USA) - Queen Anne Stakes 2016 Tepin was somewhat of a surprise winner at Royal Ascot if connections are to be believed. The superstar mare had achieved pretty much everything she could in America and was sent to Royal Ascot to ‘show her off’ after winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2015. She had to race without Lasix for the first time and without her usual breathing strip but she still proved far too strong for her European opposition, holding off a sustained challenge from Belardo to become the first ever horse based outside of Europe to land the Queen Anne Stakes.

6. Equiano (SPA) - King’s Stand Stakes 2008, 2010 The only Spanish winner at Royal Ascot, Equiano didn’t just stop at one, picking

WORLD HORSE RACING www.ascot.co.uk/world-horse-racing 4. Solow (FRA) - Queen Anne Stakes 2015 This striking grey was unbeatable in 2015, thrashing all before him to take ten straight victories from 2014 to 2016. He secured three magical victories during his campaign in England, starting with the 2015 Queen Anne Stakes in which he powered away under a sustained drive from Maxime Guyon to win by a length from Esoterique and Cougar Mountain. It was a spring board for success in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day, his last major victory before being retired the following season. 3. Lady Aurelia (USA) - Queen Mary Stakes 2016, King’s Stand Stakes 2017 Lady Aurelia is the only horse on this list in with a chance of extending her Royal Ascot record this year as she prepares to take on Battaash in the King’s Stand Stakes this week, the race she won so emphatically 12 months ago. However, it was her debut Royal Ascot appearance that really sticks out after she answered all the questions over whether she could do it on turf and away from home when routing the 2016 Queen Mary Stakes field by an incredible seven lengths. She returned the very next year to take on the King’s Stand Stakes and duly delivered once more, pulling right away from a classy field to beat Profitable and Marsha by three lengths. She undoubtedly saves her best for Royal Ascot and could make it three Royal Ascot victories on the bounce if she gets back to her best this week. 2. Black Caviar (AUS) - Diamond Jubilee Stakes 2008 Perhaps the greatest horse to grace this list, Black Caviar’s reputation was almost tarnished during an incredible renewal of the 2008 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. The wonder-mare from Australia came to England undefeated and was expected to win confortably in the first leg of her UK tour. However, after striking the front and going clear, jockey Luke Nolen made the decision to ease up in front and it almost cost them the race as Moonlight Cloud raced up on her inside forcing Nolen to push her out in the final few yards. It was later discovered that Black Caviar had suffered several tears during the race and she subsequently flew back to Australia where she went on to make it 25 from 25 before being retired. 1. Choisir (AUS) - Kings Stand Stakes 2003, Golden Jubilee Stakes 2003 The final achievement on this list is something we will probably never see again. Choisir, yet another classy Australian sprinter, did the unthinkable in 2008, winning two races in the same week at Royal Ascot. Both victories were almost carbon copies of each other with Choisir leading and travelling comfortably heading into the final two furlongs before bursting clear and maintaining his lead through to the line. What’s perhaps even more impressive is Choisir produced the fastest ever Golden Jubilee Stakes, a time that has only been bettered twice since. He almost bagged himself the July Cup at Newmarket later that year but was narrowly beat in second.

ADAM McNAMARA THREE TO FOLLOW AT ROYAL ASCOT

It’s been a long few weeks since I dislocated my shoulder, but thanks to Dal Lucas, Oaksey House and the IJF I’ve been back riding out this week. I was a little stiff after the first day or two but thankfully I’m back into the swing of things. I’m hoping to be back on a racecourse next week, and I’m raring to go. This is one of the most exciting periods in the season, and all eyes are on Royal Ascot this week. I’m looking forward to seeing Lightning Spear in the Queen Anne on Tuesday. He’s a personal favourite of mine, and he deserves to win a race like this after hitting the crossbar a few times. It’s probably unlikely that he’ll break his Group One duck here, but he’s a tough customer and I’m sure he’ll give his running. It would also be extra special to see Oisin Murphy ride his first Group One winner for the Qatar team, and I’d imagine his celebration might be on par with his Ascot celebration last year. In the Coventry, I’m excited to see Calyx return to action. He looked like he could be something special when he won at Newmarket and being Kingman’s first winner as a sire gives him added excitement. I’m sure he’ll have learned a lot that day and I really liked the way he went up through the gears and quickened away. He takes on a more experienced competitor in Sergei Prokofiev, who looked like he could be anything when he won a listed race in Naas by four lengths on his third start. Aidan O’Brien will have him spot on for the day, and both horses will be fine on the ground, but at the prices I’d take a chance on Calyx. The handicaps at Royal Ascot are some of the most competitive on the planet, and you could make a case for most horses in those type of races. That’s certainly the case in the Royal Hunt Cup, but my eye is drawn towards Settle for Bay. He’s been hugely progressive, and his first run since January was filled with bad luck. He was denied a clear run yet still managed to finish fourth in a tough race at Leopardstown, and David Marnane wouldn’t be taking him over if he didn’t think he had every chance. If he continues his progression and handles the ground, he could have an each way chance at a decent price.

Horses to Follow 2018 Oberyn Martell A horse who finished 2nd to a nice horse of Mark Johnston's on debut, he then followed up with an easy victory at Sandown making all under a good ride by Charles Bishop. Oberyn has always been held in high regard by Eve and given he was going through a growing phase when he won at Sandown he should be a lot better horse once he levels off. Look out for him over 5 or 6 furlongs and there's a race at Salisbury on June 26th where we expect him to follow up. (picture below)

Little Kim Karl Burke's 2yos are really beginning to fire after a quiet period in the first part of the season. Karl thinks the world of this filly and she didn't disappoint on debut when beating some experienced horses with her ears pricked at Carlisle. Her time at Carlisle was one of the best speed figures recorded this year by a 2yo filly and she did that with ears pricked and idling in front. A sister to Out of Flames who finished 3rd in the Queen Mary in 2017, this filly is expected to make up in to a Stakes filly and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see her win at Royal Ascot.

Staycation To date, Staycation has run three times and has yet to get his in front. Joseph O Brien's horses are renowned for improving with racing and this colt should be just the type to improve as the season progresses. He ran a solid race on debut finishing 2 1/2 lengths behind Royall Ascot bound Chicas Amigas. He then ran on Heavy ground which didn’t suit him and then stepped forward at Catterick where he looked the likely winner only to stop in front when he had the race won. Staycation shows lots of speed and natural ability at home and we expect him to be winning soon as he matures and learns about racing.

Immokalee Immokalee has run once to date when finishing 3rd at Beverley on debut. The form of the race has worked out well with the 2nd, 4th and 5th all winning soon after Beverley. Signora Cabello who finished 4th went on to win the Listed, Marygate at York and heads to the Queen Mary with the 2nd Shumooki. Immokalee was sent off a 2/1 favourite on debut and has always been well regarded in the Fahey yard. She had a little setback after Beverley but is back in full work now and we should see her on the track around the end of June.
