Welcome to the 2009 Milton Keynes Primary Schools Athletics Finals, the third event in our calendar. I hope that those of you who attended the Cross Country event in the autumn have managed to dry out and those who were at the Tug-of-War before Easter have recovered from the excitement! Many thanks to all of those involved in helping to organise, referee or marshal those events. Congratulations to all the competitors who have trained so hard to get here today. To qualify for today’s Finals, you have reached a high standard in three very competitive Heats and are already amongst the most outstanding athletes for your age group in Milton Keynes. Well done to all the teachers and helpers who have worked hard to train the competitors and enabled these events to take place. Thanks also to the volunteers and marshals who have helped the Organising Committee on competition days. We are also grateful to the parents and spectators who do so much to support the competitors and their schools – we hope you have a wonderful day supporting your children. Finally we would like to thank Stantonbury Campus and Milton Keynes Athletics Club for allowing us to use these wonderful facilities for all the events. Good luck to all the athletes today – have fun, do your best and, win or lose, be sporting in your attitude.

R. Harper

Chair of Milton Keynes Primary Schools’ Athletics Association

Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club UK Athletics Track & Field Club of the Year in 2005 and 2006 On behalf of Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club I would like to welcome you to our home base at Stantonbury Campus Stadium. This year’s Milton Keynes Middle Schools’ Athletics Championships will again yield some excellent competition, a few surprises and many memorable moments as in previous years. I hope you enjoy a very successful day. Milton Keynes Athletic Club has over 650 members and is one of the largest athletics clubs in Britain. It provides coaching for 9-17 year olds who have some talent and lots of motivation. The Under 11s join the Tiger Group for all-round athletics skills development, while the Under 13s join the Development Squad for increasingly specialised coaching. The Club has pioneered a programme for the long-term development of its young athletes. With the 2012 Olympics only three years away the Club is working hard to improve its facilities and to support its outstanding athletes and coaches. We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have secured sponsorship worth £25,000 per year for the next seven years, from Marshall Amplification Ltd. This money is being used to support our athletes and coaches in the run-up to the London Games. There are many competitive opportunities for all ages from 11 upwards. The Club competes in the Eastern Young Athletes’ League and in the National Young Athletes’ League with competition for Under 13s, Under 15s and Under 17s, with sufficient competition to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to compete for the Club. The Southern Women’s League has competition for Under 15 Girls, Under 17 and Senior Women, while the Under 20 Men and Women take part in the National Junior League. The Club has also had success in cross country running, having won the Chiltern Cross Country League, with races for all age groups, for the last nine years. The successes of our young athletes, from European Indoor Silver-medalist, Craig Pickering (60m) and European Long Jump Silver-medalist, Greg Rutherford (Long Jump), National Champions Kadi-Ann Thomas (100m and 200m), Rachel Gibbens (Pole Vault), Will Lambourne (Multi events), Chris Clarke (200m and 400m), Joey Duck (200m Indoors), and with many other medalists and finalists in these Championships, are due to the excellence of our coaching staff in nurturing the talents of over 200 young members. If your child has some talent and lots of motivation we hope you will encourage him or her to come along to our training sessions at this stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.00pm to 8.30pm (different coaching groups meet at different times during this period). If you need further information please contact our Junior Development Officers, John Tait (Boys) on 201792 (zen30317@zen.co.uk), or David Millett (Girls) on 691076 (millettdavid@aol.com) If you want to see the sort of activities that the Club is involved with you can visit our website on http://www.mkac.org.uk where a wealth of information on the club, its fixtures and results can be found. There is also an excellent Newsletter that is published four or five times a year, that is available to all Club members. Mick Bromilow Chair. Marshall Milton Keynes AC mick.bromilow@mkac.org.uk
