“If I was going to spend a lot on a watch, I would get one that has completely visible movements.” EOIN ‘SWAN’ SWEENEY, PRINTMAKER THE FIRST WATCH I EVER OWNED was a Pop Swatch. It had rockets on the wristband and a see-through, luminous orange clip and there was even a rocket on the watch itself, it was awesome. I DON’T THINK I’VE EVER BOUGHT A WATCH. I’ve always indicated that I would like one as a present and the world provided. I own a JaegerLeCoultre and if money was no object I would probably buy another one. I’m a letterpress printer, SO THE MECHANICS ARE IMPORTANT TO ME. I have a Heidelberg printing press, which is the Rolex of printing machines, it’s an incredible device. If I was going to spend a lot on a watch, I would get one that has completely visible movements. At the Gentlemen’s Academy & Weirs event I really liked seeing the pocket watches; opening them up, looking at how they were made. I ALSO LOVED PUTTING A PATEK PHILIPPE ON MY WRIST – it was beautiful, really on a different level.

AHMAD FAKHRY, DESIGNER AT ODOS ARCHITECTS THE FIRST WATCH I EVER OWNED was a Seiko watch that a friend of my mother gave to me for Christmas. I lost it once playing football – but I never told my parents. THE LAST WATCH I BOUGHT was a watch by an Irish design studio, it was great to get something designed and made in Ireland. I’VE ALWAYS BEEN DRAWN TO PATEK PHILIPPE watches, which is what I think I’d buy if money was no object. THE TECH BEHIND THE WATCH DOESN’T MATTER A HUGE AMOUNT TO ME. I like seeing it on my wrist and I like to know there’s been work put in to it and the materials are good. I’m interested in the details of everything though, especially if there is a story behind it. I enjoyed the history and learning about the ways different brands positioned themselves; it was a very interesting event.
