Σ’ ένα σχολείο χτισμένο στην άκρη ενός γκρεμού, ένας μαθητής προσπαθεί να προειδοποιήσει τους συμμαθητές του για το σαθρό έδαφος κάτω απ’ τα πόδια τους. Εξαιτίας του «κίτρινου» παρελθόντος του στη σχολική εφημερίδα, κανείς δεν τον πιστεύει ώσπου ένας σεισμός ξεκολλάει το κτίριο απ’ τη στεριά στέλνοντάς το στον Ειρηνικό. Με μια σημαντική πορεία στον χώρο των κόμικς, ο Ντας Σο επιχειρεί το κινηματογραφικό του ντεμπούτο, αναπαράγοντας το προσωπικό του σχεδιαστικό στυλ. Αυτό στην οθόνη μεταφράζεται σ’ ένα κολάζ ψηφιακών και χειροποίητων ζωγραφιών που δημιουργεί ένα ιλιγγιώδες αποτέλεσμα, ιδανικό για να περιγράψει την σύγχυση στον θεματικό πυρήνα της ταινίας. Μέσα από την διαφθορά, την σάτιρα των media και τις κοινωνικές ομάδες στον μικρόκοσμο ενός σχολείου που βουλιάζει, ο σκηνοθέτης πετυχαίνει μια αλληγορία για το ετοιμόρροπο οικοδόμημα της σύγχρονης αμερικανικής κοινωνίας. Θ.Κ. A student at a school built on the edge of a cliff is trying to warn his fellow-students for the shaky ground beneath their feet. Due to his “tabloid” past in the school newspaper no one believes him until an earthquake sends the building right into the Pacific Ocean. With a significant journey in comics, Dash Shaw makes his film debut recreating his personal style. The result is a collage of digital and handmade paintings with a dizzying effect, ideal for describing the confusion that lies in the thematic core of the film. By emphasizing the corruption, the problematic media and the social groups in the miniature world of a sinking school, the director creates an allegory for today’s crumbling American society. Th.K.

DASH SHAW Γεννημένος το 1983 στο Λος Άντζελες, σπούδασε στο School of Visual Arts στη Νέα Υόρκη και εργάζεται ως καρτουνίστας και animator. Born in Los Angeles in 1983, he studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and works as a cartoonist and animator.
