Perform the power steering test procedure in order to diagnose a hydraulic condition and repair or replace a component. Refer to 3 Power Steering System Test Procedure . Is there a hydraulic problem in the system? Inspect the power steering gear for a whine or growl noise using J 4 39570 . Is the noise present at the power steering gear? Inspect the power steering pump for a whine or growl noise using 5 J 39570 . Is the noise present at the power steering pump? Inspect the power steering hoses for a whine or growl noise using 6 J 39570 . Is the noise present at the power steering hoses? Inspect the hydraulic brake booster for a whine or growl noise 7 using J 39570 . Is the noise present at the hydro boost? Replace the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear 8 Replacement . Did you complete the repair? Replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering 9 Pump Replacement . Did you complete the repair? Adjust the routing of the power steering hoses. 10 Did you complete the repair? Diagnose the hydraulic brake booster. Refer to Hydraulic Brake 11 Assist System Noise Inspection in Hydraulic Brakes. Did you correct the condition? Operate the system in order to verify the repair. 12 Did you correct the condition? 2
