Accessory Terminal Locations There are two accessory power terminal locations you may be looking for on SpyderTM. One is "un-switched" battery power, and the other is "switched" battery power. Fuse locations for both are found in the front fuse block under the storage compartment lid. The "un-switched terminal" can be found under the service cover inside the storage compartment, plugged to a blank white block, and has Violet / Orange and Black wires. The "switched" terminals are located inside a boot, inside the left front upper shock tower weldment, and have Violet / Yellow and Black wires.

How to open the 08 Can-Am spring and summer promotion banner 1- Click on the banner from the home page 2- It will bring up a file download box, click "run" 3- It will bring up a security warning box, click "run" again 4- A WinZip self-extractor box will come up, click "browse", choose "desktop", and then click "OK" and "unzip". It will unzip 4 PDF files and an Excel sheet on your desktop.

Trouble Shooting Please don’t forget that all recent Technical Update Books contain a handy trouble shooting index for past models. You'll find the index on page 54-56 in the 2008 book. When confronted by service issues on 2002 and subsequent models, check the index to find past Update Books that may help you.

Sport Boats Effortless returns! There is a new program supplier for Sport Boats radios, CD players, and remote controls. If you should run across a Jensen®, Voyager®, or Audiovox® product issue, have your repair technician call ASA's experienced troubleshooting team and they'll help you sort out the problem. Further information can be found on page 9 of the 2008 Seadoo Technical Update book.

D.E.S.S.TM Post Interface Many of you may be using the new MPI-2 now that they supersede the VCK and have been auto-shipped to all Can-Am and Spyder dealers. Please keep in mind that the D.E.S.S.TM Post Interface (529036019) is needed for programming keys on older boats, and the MPI-2 will not allow diagnostic functions on DI models without the interface connected. The Interface was not autoshipped and must be ordered separately. The older VCK will continue to be useful for many years.

Can I delete a sub user account? No, at this moment it is not possible to delete a sub user account for fiscal reason (Government regulation). However, you can close a sub user account by putting an expiration date in the sub user profile. We are presently looking into a way to hide the sub user account when it is not active. More info to come.

Batteries Please be reminded that you MUST adhere to the proper battery PDI procedure as detailed in the PDI Bulletin. Failure to do so may result in cosmetic damage to your customer's new Spyder® Roadster. We will not accept claims for damaged plastic due to improperly serviced batteries. After filling, the batteries must sit upright so the electrolyte can absorb into the plates. Also see "What's News" from Nov. 21, 2007. You will see a running change to a pre-filled battery coming soon.

Xenon lighting system & Fog Light kit If the Xenon lighting system & Fog Light kit are both installed as accessories, the customer will need to purchase the optional wiring harness part number 710001327. Please be assured you will start to see axles well before this date though an exact date yours will be shipped is hard to tell as we will ship smaller quantities to all dealers as they become available from our supplier.

E-TEC® Spark Plugs Proper orientation or "indexing" is critical for an E-TEC® engine to perform properly. Please make sure you are using spark plugs received from BRP p/n 415129375 as these are specially indexed for the E-TEC® engine. Your technicians can learn the basics while applying the knowledge directly to our Products. It was sent to your dealership free of charge as part of your BRPTI training kit. When replacing the GBPS (gearbox position sensor) on a Spyder™ Roadster it is not necessary to remove the countershaft sprocket. The 2008 Service Manual incorrectly states it must be removed yet the flat rate (0.3 hr) does not include sprocket removal. The 2009 Service Manual will be corrected.

As you can see in our LATEST BULLETINS section, we have published a Warranty Bulletin concerning the parking brake. We are also calling each of your dealerships and asking that you concentrate on the SE5 models at this time. There is a limited number of SE5's in the field so we are also asking you to control your parts orders. Parts are coming from supply on a regular basis, but in order to reduce the risk of creating a back order, please spread your orders over a reasonable time period that matches your projected completion rate. Again, please concentrate on the SE5 first.

Minimum Requirements Computer technology is moving forward at an aggressive pace. Many of the issues we face together can be traced directly to out-dated equipment and software. Please take the time to read the alert posted on your home page of BOSSWeb to fully understand theses challenges. This is a "must read". The name of the document is: Minimal Requirements

Valve Adjustment Some customers may be approaching a mileage where their Spyder is due for a valve clearance adjustment, or inspection. In order for you to be prepared for this, you need to stock an assortment of valve shims. The shims most frequently used are in the 2.6 to 2.8 millimeter range, so if you at least stock this range of shim you should be covered. It is not necessary to stock all of the available shims.

Beep, Beep, Beep Many of you are now receiving your first SE5 electric shift models. Please be aware that when you shut down an SE5 engine without applying the parking brake the warning beeper will sound for approximately 20 seconds. This is to warn the customer that his Spyder could potentially role downhill until the parking brake is set. Stopping it in gear is not effective as on SM5 because of the centrifugal clutch.

In the last few weeks, we d about flat rates, how they are compiled and the importance of using the appropriate job code. This week, we will discuss how to submit multiple repair claims on one vehicle. First, how do I submit for multiple repairs? In order to add a repair you only need to click on the of the Trouble part number line:

sign at the end

When you add a repair it will say Repair 1 of 2 and the number will change with the number of repairs you add. Second, when do I submit for multiple repairs? When you do more than one repair in different systems or different areas of the unit; by doing a multiple repair claim you will be able to claim for the appropriate job code for each repair. Many dealers choose to submit 1 repair for multiple repairs done on a vehicle and use one job code and then lump all the remaining labor on the extra labor line. By doing this you greatly increase your risk of being cut on your warranty claim since the logic between the job codes and the parts required for the multiple repairs will only show as a lump operation. If you have any other questions concerning multiple repair claims contact the Warranty Department at (800) 3619980 (Canada) or (800) 366-6992 (US), select 3 for Warranty and then 5 for Policies and Procedures.

Change of ownership/ address BRP receives change of ownership requests and change of address requests regularly. You can help us keep registration information updated by completing the modifications online on BOSSWeb under the Sales tab. Don't hesitate to verify your customer information when servicing their vehicle, and make the required modifications. BRP uses this information to reach vehicle owners when releasing Safety campaigns but also when sending advertising material. In both situations, your dealership will benefit of future business opportunities.

Use of appropriate job codes In the last few weeks, we have been talking about flat rates and how they are compiled. This week, we will discuss the importance of using the appropriate job code which will pay you the accurate flat rate when filing a warranty claim. With some manufacturers, you need to compile all the job codes and then submit for the total time. BRP has simplified this process by combining the job codes so you will only be claiming for the longest lasting operation as per the repair procedure in the Shop Manual. By claiming the job code for the longest lasting operation you will greatly reduce the risk of being cut on the claim. So remember that with BRP, FLAT RATE TIME IS NOT CUMULATIVE. You must use the job code for the longest lasting operation. If you have any questions concerning flat rates and job codes contact the Warranty Department at (800) 3619980 (Canada) or (800) 366-6992 (US), select 3 for Warranty and then 5 for Policies and Procedures.

Brake Noise Although some brake noise or "squeal" can be considered as normal in almost any vehicle, we have had reports of "excessive" brake noise from some of our Roadster customers. We want you to know that we are fully aware of the situation and are currently working with our Engineering team to find solutions. In the interim, we have discovered that it is possible to drastically reduce the brake noise in severe cases, by using commercially available automotive products designed to address such complaints. We are hereby authorizing you to use these products in order to satisfy any customers you may have with the complaint. We have found that in the US, a product made by CRC works very well. Avoid the aerosol types as they are much thinner in viscosity. Following the brake pad replacement procedures outlined in the shop manual remove the pads and apply the material only to the contact areas on the back side of the pads. Naturally avoid getting any material on the brake pad surface or brake discs. The time allowed to perform this will be .7 hours and may be claimed on a normal warranty claim.

Parking Brake We also receive reports from customers experiencing parking brake difficulties. Be sure to maintain the parking brake adjustment per the shop manual or training DVD, and also use a spray lube to clean and lubricate the brake locking mechanism. This will keep the brake operating as designed. Be sure to instruct customers to not "over apply" the brake. Only set it tight enough to prevent the vehicle from rolling. When releasing the brake, be sure to let it return "sharply" so that it can reset the ratchet locking device.

Invalid Variant ®

During PDI of 2008 Sea-Doo 's, or shortly thereafter, you may encounter the message Invalid Variant type Conversion while trying to communicate with B.U.D.S. 2.3.17. This message will prevent you from communication and therefore you will be unable to program keys, add the customer's name or perform diagnostic functions. If you encounter this, go to BOSSWeb and download B.U.D.S. version 2.3.19. Another option if you have a customer waiting is to unplug the instrument cluster and re-read the MPEM data. When finished with B.U.D.S. plug the cluster back in.

Warning, Enter Model Number TRAINING COMING! Within a few days you will be receiving two separate training materials for the Can-AmTM Roadsters. When programming a new ECM for any 4 Tec PWC, be sure to list the proper model number on the vehicle page in BUDS After registering the VIN number & engine number, the screen will open & ask for the proper model number. The screen will also allow you to enter S BOAT at that time. Do not do this unless it really is a Sport Boat. S Boat is for Sport Boats and will deactivate the speedometer mode of the ECM for a PWC. This is a 1 time entry and can not be changed after the initial entry. Be sure to enter the proper model number. If you have accidentally deactivated a speedometer in this way, contact a Service Representative.

"SENSOR" As you are summarizing watercrafts please be reminded that the cluster warning "SENSOR " will show on units that have a depth finder & are run when out of the water. See page 3-19 in the 2004 Tech Update Book.
