Applicants should apply by 10 December to be considered for the Main Round of offers. • Main Round Offers are released 16 January 2013 at 9pm • Letters have been sent to all students who deferred an Undergraduate offer in 2012 with their instructions on how to accept or decline the offer for 2013.

Enrolments • Planning for 2013 enrolments is underway. It is intended that students will enrol for

the full year in December. Dates will be confirmed shortly. • Leave of Absence letters will be sent this week to all students who have taken 2013 away from their program. Students will be advised that they can enrol in December for 2013, request another period of leave or discontinue their program completely.

ESOS • Sharon Tuck is welcomed back on 5 November after a period of leave. • Sharon and Bree are involved in the Organising Committee for the ESOS Conference 2013 to be held in Sydney. Dates will be confirmed shortly and we encourage all staff to consider whether this is a conference they should attend.

15000 UoN Enquiries Exciting times lie ahead for UoN Enquires. Currently we are in the process of recruiting our next pool of casual staff, with training to occur the week after Semester 2 exams conclude. After training, these staff will begin buddy shifts in UoN Enquiries, just in time for the craziness of reenrolment in December. Buddy shifts in the hubs will commence a few weeks before the PIES start in late January. Currently, our staff are assisting the Student Experience & Transition Unit in contacting students who were ‘At Risk’ after Semester 1. This is the second call out to this cohort of students to check

in and see how they are going before Exams begin next week. Some of our staff are working after hours in an attempt to capture more students who may have been in class or working during the day. Finally, 2013 will bring the introduction of the student portal which we believe will greatly improve our communication with students. In conjunction with the IT Project Team, we are aiming for a first phase release of the portal for Trimester 1 students next year. Watch this space for some exciting developments over the coming months!

60 seconds with... Luke Layzell FAVOURITE FOOD: BBQ Sauce - it goes on EVERYTHING and is sooooo goood!!!! Although… I have gone through stages of keeping a jar of Nutella at work for the occasional spoon full. FAVOURITE TIPPLE: Wine - Annie’s Lane 2008 Shiraz is a good fall back red, while my favourite white is Audrey Wilkinson’s 2009 Semillon.

FAVOURITE MOVIE(S): Pretty Woman - Yep I admitted it; I have a thing for Julia Roberts. She’s Hollywood royalty!!

DINNER GUESTS YOU’D LOVE TO HAVE (ALIVE OR DEAD): Richard Dawkins - my favourite academic. Jennifer Garner - best spy ever! Stewie Griffin - to share our plans of World Domination!

FAVOURITE MUSIC: I like everything (except Heavy Metal) including Rock, Pop, Rap, Electronica, Classical, Indie etc. If you’re after artists, I should mention that I have a special playlist that I listen to on my way to work every morning that turns me from a slow half dead morning-hating zombie, to the crazy, excited ‘special’ guy my colleagues know me to be. It’s mostly full of Pitbull, David Guetta, Darude and Usher.

IDEAL HOLIDAY: A historical tour of Western Europe (donations?)

FAVOURITE QUOTE(S): As my favourite quote would have been censored, I have included my second favourite quote. Please feel free to ask me what my favourite one is though. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” - Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love, 1963

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR ROLE? My newfound love for The Hunt for Red October. Oh and the fact that my face is on everything. I’m in the video, on posters… even my name is in the hub slideshow. I’m even on the hub staff recruitment ad! Seriously, I cannot leave my house without some random person, whether it be wait staff, cashier, or another customer, coming up to me and recognising me from working in the Shortland Hub. Pretentious much? Please Note: Since this interview was conducted, Luke has accepted a temporary secondment as a Systems Operational Support Officer in Student Systems and Projects.
