THICKNESS Precinct Police Station Design Professor: Nichole Widemann Location: The University of Texas at Austin Time: 2017.04 Type: Academic This project is a precinct police station based on the research of thickness. The concept comes from forests, the forest has many trees which has different sizes. When you walk through the forest, you could experience thickness which create depth and you can view different scenes at different angles in different places. The sunlight will come through the top of the forests and leak shadows in the forests which also create depth and thickness. The canopy on the thin trees can let in different shadows projected on the facade of the building. So I am thinking about using thickness of shadows to create depth and thickness in the building.

There are also interior facade inside the building. The stairs are surrounded by both inside and outside facade and provide different experience for police.
It is the scenes that you see when you are at the front side of the building.
When you wander to other sides, experiencing the angles change, you will have different experiences about the thickness.

BOUNDARY ELIMINATION Bamboo Scaffolding System Design Professor: Daniel Bonilla Location: The University of Texas at Austin Time: 2017.12 Teammate: Mingyang Li Type: Academic This is a project based on materiality. In this project, the objective is to use bamboo or clay which is the most common material in Colombia to build architecture in Bogota. We want to create a bamboo frame system which serves as a community center which contains the programs including markets, restaurants, exhibition and opening square to eliminate the boundary between open and close blocks near our site at the same time provides a relaxing space for people not only in residential areas nearby, but also for people who come from other places. The community center is flexible of use in this frame system.
Concept Generation
There are closed and open spaces on both north and south, east and west of the site. So in this site, we want to build architecture which eliminates the boundary between two variety of spaces.

CONVERGE The Architecture Department Design Professor: Jiang FangďźŒZhang Dayu Location: Beijing University Of Civil Engineering And Architecture Time: 2014.05 Teammate: Zhang Miao, Wang Zhengni, Hu Xinrui Duty: Scheme Design, Models, Perspective, Plans, Diagrams, Photos Type: Academic The design concept comes from converge which focuses more on communication rather than the connection between classrooms. So the most interesting things in the department are atrium, walkways , platforms. The traffic center in the middle of the site is set to be a converge center for students to communicate. The separations of the classroom are also designed specially to promote the students' communication. The set of patio space enables every student on the upper floors to see the drawing reviews on the first floor.

The concept of the design comes from Fujian Tulou in China which is a spatial prototype for people to expose to society.Hall, patio, courtyard and hallways belong to public parts of Tulou.

The center of Tulou becomes a focus for people to gather. In this site, the main flow of the surroundings come from the campus square, the library, the exhibition hall and the civil engineering building.

The Designs of Several Different Forms of Space 1. The inner space: the sucken lecture hall, the stairs' space, the combination of graduate and doctoral studios. The classrooms in the south share the small gallery and the multiuse space in the central converge center. 2. The outer space: the large platform on the north can provide a space for the teachers and students to relax and wander and overlook the whole site. The altrium space in the south which offers the students seats and grass to rest and exercise, with the help of the significant shaded trees, the most crucial landscape nodes. There are bridges on the second floor connected the converge center and the undergraduate buildings. The students could also overlook the whole site on the bridge. 31
The Application of the Ecological Technology 1. The use of the ecological glass curtain wall: the glass curtain wall uses two-double respirable glass curtain wall. The space between the inner and outer walls forms a ventilation layer, which promotes air flow and circulation so that the temperature of the inner walls are close to the indoor temperature, reducing the difference of temperature between indoors and outdoors to save more energy. 2. The use of skylights: Set skylights on the roof to increase natural illumination as well as developing a kind of attractive light and shadow effect in the building. 3. The set of the atrium: The airflow of the building forms because of the set of atrium, which promotes natural ventilation. 32

RODS, CURVED, COMPOSITE STRUCTURE Pavilion Design and Construction Professor: Fan Zhenhe Location: Beijing University Of Civil Engineering And Architecture Time: 2014.06 Teammate: Wang jiaqi, Feng Chaoyuan, Yue Shuai, Zhang Miao, Luo Peihua Duty: Scheme Design, Models, Perspective, Plans, Diagrams Type: Academic This structure is a big span structure, it uses a number of rhombus to join together, following a particular order, the use of suspension structure enables to grow, the repetition of them creates a new organizational structure. The form inspires a sailing boat, and the structure inspires fishbone from river, sparkling waves. The structure is consist of roofs, ropes and bracings.
Oblique Bracing
Diagonal Bracing
Flexible Rope
39
Working Process During working, we use ropes, battens and joints. We test the structure and decide to increase the diagonal bracings and the quantities of ropes.
The Suspension Structure Resisting to Thrust The main bracings are not stable since it is oblique. Thus, considering the thrust resistance, diagonal bracing are set up on the base of structure.
Cable Fixed Analysis There are 62 ropes in the model. 18 of them connect the main oblique bracings with the ground. Additionally, We set diagonal bracings at the middle side of the main oblique bracings to enhance.
Fixed Base Structure Analysis The ropes are connected with the base flexibly by joints. The oblique bracings are connected with the base by iron joints.
Wind Thrust Measures Connections between the ropes and ground solves the problem of wind thrust as well as the appearance of the structure in the practical construction.

ARTS PERFORMING CENTER Large Scale Public Building Design Professor: Wang guangxin Location: Beijing University Of Civil Engineering And Architecture Time: 2014.05 Type: Academic This site is located in the Fengtai District, Beijing. It is in the north of the world park. It is bulit to be a landmark of this region. The main entrance of audiences is set in the east of the site, facing the main road to attract people. The main mass is the bowl's shape in response to the set of the audience hall. The wall's facade behind is designed as curves to correspond to the round mass. The inspriation of facade is the bee's cone. Since bees have reasonance, the honeycones should be hexagonal, The performing art center also need reasonance. This facade also promotes the natural ventilation.
