Facts 3 There are eleven earthquakes recorded in the New Testament. Hail is often known to accompany the violent thunder storms that usually strike Israel between December and March. The Hebrew word “mabbul”, used to describe the Flood in Genesis, occurs only once outside the flood narratives in the Bible (Psalm 29:10). Noah sent the dove from the ark 264 days after the flood had first begun. Mountains in the Bible were sometimes used as symbols denoting difficulty and obstacles (Matthew 21:21). Mount Nebo, the site from which Moses viewed the promised land before his death, is 2,739 feet high. The River Euphrates is the largest river in West Asia, being 1,510 miles long. Of the Gospel writers, only Matthew and Mark mention John the Baptist’s activity in the River Jordan (Matthew 3:6; Mark 1:5). The Bible often describes the disease of leprosy as one which turns the skin white like snow (Exodus 4:6). The word sun is mentioned most times in the book of Ecclesiastes where it appears 35 times.
