Rock, in all its horns blazing, head banging, air guitaring, balls out glory isn’t just a sound, it’s a lifelong attitude and style. For all those rail digging, air popping, fast living rockers out there (and nice folks who just can’t live without denim) we’ve built the world’s first Denim boardshort for land and sea.

They’re fully functional boardies, armed with 4-way stretch and super lightweight, fast drying fabric for unrestricted drop-knee turns and Dave Mustaine high-kicks. We also made them water repellent so water runs off them like purple rain from Prince’s “Cloud”.

The world’s first Denim boardshort is made possible by a progressive collaboration with denim professionals iSKO.

Like O’Neill, iSKO is a leader in innovation and committed to creating products that are both environmentally more sound and sustainable. iSKO has been manufacturing high-end fabrics since 1904 and from their 300,000 m 2 plant and 1,500 automated looms weave over 250 million metres of fabric a year, creating a portfolio of more than 25,000 products.

Our Denim boardshort is made from a 4-way stretch natural fibre denim, iSKO Blue Skin™, which delivers unrestricted mobility in and out of the water and has patented recall technology, so they maintain their shape however hard they are ridden.

The short’s denim is also 50% lighter than traditional jean fabric and is made hydrophobic thanks to a DWR treatment applied by the clever guys and gals at Martelli. This means that the shorts absorb very little water and dry in a flash. The treated fabric also remains soft and breathable both in and out of the water, with a durability that can withstand surf after surf and home wash after home wash.

Together, O’Neill and iSKO, have given hardcore watermen the option of taking their rockers style to the ocean.
