進念自2 015 年《元亨利貞易經計畫》 起 與 本 地 聲 樂 家畢永琴及 聲 樂 組合 「 歌 之 能 者 」合 作 發 展 音 樂 賞 析 系 列，2016年透過「歌者匯」賞析《元亨 利貞易經計畫 》的聲 樂 創作 與演唱特 色。2017-2018年以本地節慶唱詠為主 題，並介紹本地唱詠團體「歌之能者」， 1月節目為「浪漫時代的情歌」。 Since the Book of Changes project in 2015, Zuni has been collaborating with local vocal artist Rosaline Pi and Soloists in Action for the Music Appreciation Series. In 2016, we produced the program “True Ensemble Singing”.

In 2017-2018, the Series focuses on songs for the different festive occasions.

We will introduce the local vocal group Soloists in Action. Program in January will be “Love Duets and Quartets from the Romantic Era”. 場刊由畢永琴撰寫

浪漫時代的情歌 本音樂會自多套浪漫時期的德國藝 術 歌曲(Lieder)歌 集中選出共2 1首二重 唱及四重唱歌曲，由「歌之能者」中7位 獨唱家(女高音畢永琴、何朗家、假聲男 高音陸堅智、女低音陳德美、男高音劉 森坪、周殷豪及男低音曾偉奇)及鋼琴 家譚浩文聯同演出。21首歌曲中包括舒 曼Op.74(Spanisches Liederspiel/ 西 班牙歌曲集)中的“Erste Begegnung”/ 「初遇」及 “In der Nacht” /「夜」 ，Op.101 (Minnespiel/愛之遊戲)中的“Ich bin dein Baum”/「樹與園丁」及布拉姆斯 Op.20 中的“Weg der Liebe”/「愛之路」及“Die Meere”/「海」、Op.112中的“Sehnsucht”/ 「盼望」及孟德爾遜 (Mendelssohn, 18091847) Op.63 中6首非常動聽的愛情二重 唱小品。

「浪漫主義(Romanticism)是歐洲思想 史中一個非常重要的文化運動，它是人 們對理性主義的一個反迴響(counter reaction)。浪漫主義此思想浪潮始於 十八世 紀 末，雖 然 其 巔 峰期只 是 數十 年，但涉及的範圍極 廣，文學、哲學、 藝 術、音 樂 等 無 一樣 不受 其 影 響。而 且 影 響 深 遠，它帶 給人的不是 文化的 一種新潮流……浪漫主義是轍底改變 了人類從此以後思想、看事的模式。浪 漫 主義 在音樂上有多種不同的表 述， 舒伯特(1897-1828)的純真情懷、舒曼 (Schumann, 1818-1856)的 溫馨之情、布 拉姆斯(Brahms, 1833-1897)無顧後果 的激情、胡戈·沃爾夫(Hugo Wolf, 18601903)的苦情、馬勒(Mahler, 1860-1911) 的無奈之情、理查·施特勞斯(Richard Strauss, 1864-1949)畸形之情等。」 －(畢永琴《舒伯特歌曲中的浪漫主義－純真情懷》)

Love Duets and Quartets from the Romantic Era Romanticism is a very important cultural movement in Europe starting from end of the 18th century. Although it lasted only for several decades, the Romanticism way of thinking and approaching life matters affected all cultural forms: literature, philosophy, arts and music. With the rise of modern philosophy with Descartes (1596-1650) and the numerous major successes and important discoveries in science, Rationalism dominated the thought process in Europe starting from the 17th century. The great philosopher Kant (1724-1804) lived at the time when rationalism was at its peak. But there are indeed many things in life that do not and need not follow reasons. Romanticism, as a counter reaction to Rationalism, once started, spread fast and wide into all aspects of people’s cultural life.

In this concert, 21 duets and quartets were chosen from 5 song sets of Schumann (1818-1856) Op.74 (Spanisches Liederspiel / Spanish Songbook), Op.101 (Minnespiel / Love Game), Brahms (1833-1897) Op.20 with songs “Weg der Liebe” (The Path of Love) & “Die Meere” (The Sea), Op.112 with the most famous quartet “Sehnsucht” (Yearning) and Mendelssohn’s (1809-1847) six most lively love duets from Op.63. These will be performed by sopranos Rosaline Pi, Gladys Ho, counter-tenor Enico Luk, alto May Chan, tenors Sam Lau, Samson Chow and bass Ricky Tsang (from Soloists in Action) and pianist Dennis Tam.

Romanticism in music can be best felt in works of composers of the romantic era in Europe (late 18th to early 19th century). This is particularly so when the romantic poems themselves were set to music. Among these, the German Lied took up a very special place.

Schumann “Spanisches Liederspiel” Op.74 舒曼「西班牙藝術歌曲小品集」歌集編號74

舒曼歌集編號74共有十首歌，其中八首都是德國詩人Emanuel Geibel (18151884) 從西班牙詩句翻譯過來成為歌詞的。

The texts for Op. 74 contain adaptations of anonymous Spanish poems.

These were compiled and translated into German by Emanuel Geibel (18181884) to become the lyrics of 8 out of the 10 songs of Op.74.

Brahms “Drei Duette” Op.20 布拉姆斯「三首二重唱」作品編號20

布拉姆斯作品編號20是他第一套的二重唱作品，寫給女高音及女低音二重唱，寫 作風格模仿前人孟德爾遜。

Opus 20 is Brahms’s first set of vocal duets. It contains 3 duets for soprano and alto. In this, Brahms’ writing was following the style of one of his great predecessors, Felix Mendelssohn.

Brahms “Sechs Quartette” Op.112 布拉姆斯「六首四重唱」作品編號112

布拉姆斯作品編號112的六首四重唱中包含兩種完全不同風格的歌曲，首兩首 音樂及主題均屬嚴肅、傷感，後四首則是吉卜賽風格輕快歡樂的歌曲。作曲者 似乎在說，既然人生苦短，在盼望、寂莫之餘，也不要忘記享受目前短暫的歡樂。

There are two different styles in the six quartets of op.112. The first two are very serious and melancholy. The last four are gypsy songs taken from some gypsy folk songs books. Brahms seems to be saying that despite one’s loneliness and yearning for love, life is too short for one to be too serious.

So one should embrace the pleasant moments though these are short.

孟德爾遜作品編號63雖然出版於1845年，但當中的六首二重唱是他在1836及 1844年之間寫的。他的二重唱作品從來都不是以難度見稱，但它們都是非常 悅耳動聽的小品。 Although published in 1845, Mendelssohn composed the Six Duets in his Op. 63 between 1836 and 1844. Though not known for their difficulty, his duets are pleasing to hear.

Rosaline Pi received her Bachelor of Music (Voice) from McGill University. She also studied Physics at the same time and was awarded a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

She is currently one of the most active sopranos on local scene. She performs extensively in the Baroque repertoire, Lieder and art songs. She regularly performs Baroque vocal masterpieces such as Bach’s Cantatas, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, B Minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio, Easter Oratorio, many of Handel’s full length operas such as Alexander’s Feast, Semele, Samson, Judas Maccabaeus, and motets of Baroque composers such as Alessandro Scarlatti and Boccherini.

Apart from performances, Pi gives vocal lectures regularly on thought history in music and vocal techniques. She is the originator and promoter of her “Simple Physics for Singing” vocal technique. Her vocal technique lectures are sold-out events. Since 2001, Pi has been a regular vocal music critic with the classical music radio. Pi taught voice at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

She wrote for the Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly on vocal music in her personal column “A Journey for the Voice”. She now has her personal column on the Master-Insight online cultural platform. In recent years, Pi started to write to comment on Hong Kong’s political issues. Her political commentaries are often published in the Hong Kong Economic Journal.

In 2014, Pi published her book in Chinese on the Romanticism in Schubert’s Lieder and her CD “An die Musik – Schubert Lieder by Rosaline Pi”.

In the CD, “singing and recording the original classical songs using the way popular songs are sung and recorded” is something that has never been done in the history of singing and recording.

Pi received her MA degree in Philosophy from CUHK in 2007. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in their Philosophy Department. Her research focus is on the late Heidegger and, in particular, using phenomenology to explain the phenomenon of “empathy”.

Zuni Icosahedron, founded in 1982, is a Hong Kong based international experimental theatre company. Zuni has produced over 200 original productions of alternative theatre and multimedia performances, and has been active in video, sound experimentation and installation arts, as well as in the areas of arts education, arts criticism, cultural policy research and international cultural exchange.

In the past decade, Zuni has been undertaking the mission of preserving and developing Intangible Cultural Heritage (Performing Arts). Over the years, Zuni has been invited to over 60 cities in Europe, Asia, and America for cultural exchange and performances. Zuni is one of the nine major professional performing arts companies in Hong Kong, and has established itself as a premier experimental theatre locally, regionally and internationally. Since 2009, Zuni has become a Venue Partner of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in where a series of theatre works and outreach education programmes were produced.
