PIKNIK PARK
- A FRESH BREEZE IN MALÁ STRANA
There are many attractions and so-called tourist traps near famous Charles Bridge. And there’s also a lot of commotion. Where can one enjoy the beauty of the old city and not have to push and shove through the crowds of curious visitors? Without a doubt in Piknik Park.
The recently opened Piknik Park restaurant is located in the heart of Malá Strana, just a few steps from Charles Bridge and Lennon‘s Wall, right on the banks of Čertovka. Čertovka in Prague is a place that separates Kampa from the rest of Malá Strana. It is an artificially created water channel that was built back in the twelfth century and still astonishes with its beautiful conception. Piknik Park is situated right at Čertovka, so the view is truly unique.
The interior of the enterprise is above reproach. It is a new, completely renovated place, designed with feeling and is quite intimate. The restaurant and garden holds a few dozen people, which I personally see as a great positive. Large businesses give off a much less personal impression, and one often feels like they are in a factory cafeteria. ce for the center of Prague. But it makes sense. The pursuit of a typical Czech meal has become the nonsensical mantra of many Prague businesses, and the gastronomy has stagnated in recent years as a result. Not to mention that although Czech cuisine is excellent without debate and has many advantages, at the same time it is very heavy and can’t be eaten all the time (in the sense that one likes to have it out of curiosity but then prefers something lighter). The pure Italian cuisine is therefore a breath of fresh air in Prague, and in this case also an authentic one. Piknik Park has two Italian cooks under its thumb, all the dishes are made of high quality and fresh ingredients and always according to the best traditions of Italian cuisine.
Due to the focus on Italian cuisine, it is not surprising that the beverage menu isn’t dominated by beer (but of course, it’s on tap there). On the contrary, wine plays a primary role, which is delivered by the Víno Hruška winery. A stylish wine shop is part of the restaurant and people can hear the offer there. There is really a large selection, the wines are delicious, and if you would like to have a glass with your meal (or even a few), it would be a big mistake to go over the offer there and not taste anything. Even though Czech wines clearly dominate the offer, there are, of course, also foreign wines.
In spite of its location in the heart of Malá Strana, Piknik Park does not have any excessive prices (which also applies to the wines where a whole bottle is priced in the hundreds of crowns). What, on the contrary, Piknik Park has - and it is a real rarity in these parts - is a year-round garden. Something like that is not common in Prague, and it‘s a tremendous shame. Of course, it is worth visiting the city even in colder weather, and there is no reason to hide from it. In order for the garden to be a year-round garden, it has thermal heaters.
Once again, Picnic Park is out of the ordinary, it is also thanks to the live music on the terrace (playing every day!). It is usually created by two musicians (such as a violinist and a guitar player) which gives the atmosphere of the place a truly unique touch. It‘s almost like from a movie - a romantic retreat in a beautiful city, excellent food, a candle on the table, and pleasant, unobtrusive and yet intoxicating background music. There is something magical about it.
It’s no problem to go without a reservation to Piknik Park, but if you‘re preparing to go there in the evening, a reservation won’t hurt. Due to its location and excellent gastronomy, it’s a place that’s very popular not only with tourists but also with Prague residents, despite its short existence.
Of course, it is also possible to rent the whole space for a private event. However, in that case it is good to think ahead and make a reservation in time. In the case of a reception, you do not have to stick to Italian cuisine – the chefs will be happy to hear any of your wishes.
Every city is in a way „hostage“ to supply and demand. It demonstrates the trend and, to a great extent, it may stifle originality. Piknik Park goes its own way. It offers a place that is not afraid to be elegant, affordable at the same time, with refreshing cuisine and a location that is popular for its scenic walks. You will certainly not lose out by visiting.

PROUD BEER
Beer has particularly in the Czech Republic a rich history and a very strong position. We consider it together with legendary hockey player Jaroslav Jágr as our largest international gold and we‘re very proud.
We are not proud on the label „Czech beer“ by a chance. This is one of the Czech symbols and since 2008 the name „Czech beer“ is protected as a geographical indication. Overall, the Czech Republic for its production, which is about 20 million hectoliters of beer annually, is on the 15th place in the world. It is not a little amount on the small country in the heart of Europe.
Beer is also an important export article of the Czech Republic. Every year, the Czech Republic exports more than 2 million hectoliters. About 40% of exports go to Germany, followed by exports to Slovakia, Sweden, England and Russia.
So yes, we have a beer to be proud of and we rejoice with him. On the following pages you will find a tip on best beer in Prague. Taste it well!
ml.

Upon entering the U Sádlů restaurant, we immersed ourselves in the magic of history. On the walls are preserved period inscriptions, weapons, boars‘ heads, skins and mosaic windows. As for food, we definitely recommend the duck and goulash. Even from the photos, you can see that this establishment doesn‘t try to save on the portions. The duck falls apart by itself, and we can definitely say that you‘ll find few places in all of Prague where you‘ll enjoy it this much. Duck certainly has to be washed down, so Budweiser Budvar Original, drawn in two pulls, will come in handy. Why two pulls? In U Sádlů, they treat the most popular Czech beverage with the appropriate care, and therefore every beer has its recommended drawing method so that it tastes as good as possible. If you want to discover real old Czech cuisine, the U Sádlů restaurant is a clear choice.

Lokálka [The Local] will immediately win you over. At the entrance, you can‘t help but notice the two beer tanks in which Budvar 33 awaits you. You can also enjoy draught Budweiser Budvar Original here. If you order a beer, you‘ll also get freshly fried home-made potato chips with it. What else do we have here that‘s delicious? Among others, the menu includes excellent soft ripened Olomouc cheese in bacon, honest marinated Hermelín cheese and steak tartare; of the main courses, you definitely shouldn‘t miss the baked pork ribs, pork knee, LOKÁLKA Special burger and pork tenderloin. Even from the photos, it‘s clear that the food from the kitchen is a winner. From the starters, we can definitely recommend the very ripe Olomouc round cheese, and of the main courses we succumbed to the magic of the local hamburger with home-made bap, and the grilled pork knee.
