The Street Department prioritizes clearing all roads during a single snow event but adapts its response based on storm intensity. In icy or snowy conditions, the City applies de-icer and plows snow through a phased approach. Phase one involves salting primary arterial streets and major intersections based on public safety priorities. Phase two, depending on pavement conditions and weather forecasts, initiates snow plowing when snow accumulation reaches two inches. Streets are categorized into three priorities: Priority One includes arterials, collectors, emergency routes, and school routes, which receive the most frequent attention, including curb-to-curb plowing and de-icing. Priority Two consists of residential and non-primary routes, typically addressed after Priority One streets are cleared. Priority Three encompasses alleys, which are plowed last during prolonged or heavy storms. This tiered system ensures efficient use of resources while maintaining public safety.

No matter how unpredictable our winter gets, make sure your furnace and heating equipment is prepared to efficiently heat your home this season when you take the right steps to maintain, test, and protect it. With good care and planning, keep your household warm with reliable heating equipment that performs well all winter long. To prepare your home for winter, focus on insulation, heating, and safety:
• Seal and Insulate: Check windows and doors for drafts, and use weatherstripping or caulk to seal gaps. Insulate your attic, pipes, and walls to keep heat in.
•Check Heating Systems: Service your furnace or boiler, clean air vents, and replace filters. Test your thermostat and consider a programmable one for efficiency.
•Inspect the Exterior: Clean gutters, check the roof for damage, and trim overhanging branches to prevent winter damage.
•Stock Emergency Supplies: Have flashlights, batteries, blankets, and a supply of non-perishable food and water.
•Winterize Plumbing: Insulate pipes and let faucets drip during extreme cold to prevent freezing. These steps will keep your home warm, safe, and efficient during the winter months!

Clearing snow from fire hydrants and dryer vents is essential for safety and prevention. Fire hydrants buried under snow can delay firefighters during emergencies, costing valuable time that could save lives and property. Similarly, snow obstructing dryer vents can block proper airflow, increasing the risk of carbon monoxide buildup and fires caused by overheating. Regularly clearing these areas ensures quick emergency response and protects homes and families from avoidable hazards.

There’s a quiet magic in winter driving, where the everyday road is transformed into a frosted wonderland! Before you head out this winter, make sure your vehicle is ready for the weather. Check your tire pressure and windshield wipers at the beginning of the season. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, include a phone charger, jumper cables, warm clothes, flashlight, snacks and water. Keep your fuel and washer fluid filled. Make sure your tailpipe is clear of snow before warming your vehicle. Always clear your windows, mirrors and lights of snow before you leave.
Winter weather can make driving treacherous. Make sure to drive slowly, avoid distractions and increase your following distance. Accelerate and decelerate slowly and lightly tap brakes to avoid sliding. Avoid using cruise control in wet, icy or snowy conditions.
If you are heading out on a winter road trip, plan your route in advance and let someone know your itinerary. Monitor the weather and road conditions and avoid driving until roads are safe and passable. Don’t drive tired, schedule breaks every few hours.

Hello,
Every year, Lake County and its 18 townships receive their Equalization Factors from the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Sales Ratio Studies. In 2022, there were 302 qualified sales in Zion Township. In 2023, there were only 244 qualified sales. And in 2024, there were 188 qualified sales. Interest rates have not gone down significantly, roughly about half a percentage point in the last 12 months. Inventory is getting lower. However, we are still seeing asking prices increasing over last year’s sales. Values are still experiencing growth in Zion Township. We will continue to navigate the housing market and stay up to date for you. Based on state statutes, we are required by law to value property based on the prior 3 years’ sales ratios. Even if the market were to take a dramatic turn in either direction, it would be years before our valuations would reflect that. We are required to value based on factual evidence, not assumptions or personal hardships. Check us out on Facebook or Instagram for bi-weekly Q & A. Here’s to a great New Year!
Check your profile and make sure our records reflect the correct information. If you have any questions, please come by our office or call 847- 872-5031.

Hola,
District 126 is launching a new social media campaign called “From Home to Hive: Goal 721” to help students and families stay connected, supported, and empowered throughout the school year. The campaign focuses on the idea that every Zee-Bee’s journey to graduation is built one day at a time—721 school days from freshman year to senior year.
Our goal is simple: Provide families with helpful, easy-to-use tips and resources that support attendance, organization, wellness, and school success.
When families and schools work together from “home to hive,” students feel supported, prepared, and confident. Strong routines and strong relationships lead to strong outcomes — and bring us closer to our districtwide goal of 721 successful school days.
Together, we build the habits that help every Zee-Bee thrive.

Meetings are available to view in our @zbthsd126 YouTube “Board of Education” Playlist
July 2025 Through June 2026
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: Zion-Benton Township High School 3901 W. 21st Street, Zion, IL 60099

Zion-Benton Township High School District 126 is proud to share key highlights from the 2025 Illinois School Report Card, showcasing the strength of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the collective commitment of our community. These indicators reflect the momentum our district continues to build as we work toward Vision 2030 and ensure every Zee-Bee is prepared for success.
Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to school, remain engaged in learning, and feel prepared to succeed throughout their four years of high school. When students attend school regularly, they develop the habits necessary for long-term success.
90% Freshman on Track — Building a Foundation for Success
Freshman on Track reflects how well students are doing in their first year of high school. A 90% rate shows that most freshmen are earning their credits and building a strong foundation, increasing their chances of graduating on time.

91% Graduation Rate — Preparing Students for the Future
A 91% graduation rate shows that students leave high school prepared for college, careers, trades, or military service. This strong rate reflects years of learning, support, and commitment from students, families, and staff.
Teacher Retention — A Stable, Highly Skilled Staff
High teacher retention means District 126 keeps experienced, skilled educators in the classroom. When teachers stay, they build strong relationships with students and provide stable, high-quality instruction year after year.

District 126 is reimagining what a school library can be. This year, both ZBTHS and ZB East unveiled redesigned library spaces that give students more ways to think, create, collaborate, and explore. These new spaces were shaped by student and staff input and designed to support the skills our graduates need for the future.

The updated libraries now include flexible seating, technology-rich work areas, small-group collaboration rooms, and expanded access to digital resources. Students use the space for research, independent reading, project work, tutoring, and quiet reflection. Teachers are also integrating the libraries into their instructional plans, bringing classes in for co-taught lessons, media literacy instruction, and digital learning experiences.
These changes are part of the district’s facilities plan, which focuses on creating modern learning environments that enable all students to thrive. The new libraries are already becoming the heart of the school day—places where curiosity is sparked and ideas come to life. District 126 is committed to building learning spaces that reflect our goals: future-focused, studentcentered, and designed for real-world readiness.

Dear Neighbors,

I’m honored to serve as your Illinois State Representative! I love our community, and I’m grateful for the trust you’ve put in me to represent you in Springfield and provide assistance with state services here in the 61st District.
Here are some of the things that I and my district constituent services office do. Please contact us if we can be of assistance!

I welcome your ideas about new laws or changes to existing laws! I also welcome your feedback and questions about, any pending legislation in Illinois. Each year, Illinois legislators vote on an annual budget. If you have thoughts on Illinois’ budget priorities, please let me know. I track feedback from everyone who writes, calls or emails about bills or the budget and I take it all into consideration when voting.
If you are having an issue with a state agency, my office can assist you with seeking a resolution. Common examples include IDES (Unemployment), The Secretary of State (Driver services), the Treasurer (iCash, College Savings, ABLE), the Illinois Department of Revenue (state income taxes), IDFPR (Professional licensing), IDHS (Human Services assistance programs), and IDOT (Dept of Transportation).
Each year I host a variety of events including free shredding, iCash and IPass, college planning, property tax appeal, “Read With Your Rep” for kids, legislative updates and advisory council meetings, and much more. We also host regular neighborhood office hours, bringing our team to your town! Check out our website or sign up for updates so you don’t miss a thing!

We have FREE passes to many popular museums and zoos! Also, if you know someone who is celebrating a big birthday, anniversary, retirement or achievement, I’d love to help them celebrate with a certificate of recognition. I would also be honored to provide a memorial certificate to remember your loved one.
