2026 Issue 02 July 15, 2026 Newsletter

Dear SWP Parents: Welcome to the second edition of the Zion Township Summer Work Program Newsletter! As we continue through this exciting seven-week journey, we are proud to see our participants gaining valuable workplace experience, developing new skills, and building confidence. Each week brings new opportunities for learning, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. In this edition, we highlight weeks 3 and 4 including program updates, youth accomplishments, lessons learned, and the experiences that are making this summer memorable. We are excited to continue celebrating the growth and achievements of our Summer Work Program participants!

Program Highlights: The Word of the Week for Week 3 was Kindness, and for Week 4 it was Safety. Participants received a lesson on each value and completed an assessment to measure their understanding. Throughout the week, they were encouraged to apply these values in their work and daily interactions. Participants also attended a "Do the Right Thing" workshop, which focused on making positive choices and doing the right thing regardless of the situation. The presentation emphasized integrity, responsibility, and good decision-making. Our participants have done a tremendous job helping to keep our community clean. They have worked hard cleaning city streets and parks while taking pride in serving the community. In addition, they assisted four senior residents with yard cleanup and other outdoor tasks around their homes. Their willingness to help others has made a meaningful impact. One intern had the opportunity to work at the Zion Township Assessor’s office and is learning how do field home inspections and office work. The participants also attended an internet safety workshop, where they learned how to stay safe while surfing the web, recognize potential online risks, and make responsible decisions when using technology. One of the responsibilities of our participants is helping keep the program vehicles clean. This week, they took the initiative to thoroughly clean the vans used for the Summer Work Program. Great job, participants! Your teamwork, responsibility, and pride in your work continue to make a difference.

What’s Ahead We are very excited about the upcoming weeks because we still have a lot to teach and share with the youth. Please look out for information, videos and pictures on the SWP app. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your intern’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 847-872-2811 or adriana@ziontownship.org.
