Ihaveworkedonthisprojectforovertwoyears-EcholandsWinery,a 20,000squarefootwinerywithfermentationspaceandatastingroomin WallaWalla,Washington.Itiscurrentlyunderconstruction.Thedesign featurescrosslaminatedtimberceilingswithglulambeams,adramatic curtainwallsurroundingthetastingroom,andanundergroundwine librarywithlocalbasaltrockadorningafeaturewall.

IworkedonthisprojectfromDesignDevelopmentallthewayto ConstructionAdministration.DuringtheDesignDevelopmentphase,I designedroomconfigurationsincludingtheprivatetastinglounge, undergroundwinelibrary,maintastingroom,outdoorroofdeckandentry ramp.WetransitionedtotheConstructionDocumentphasewhereI workedextensivelyoncoordinatingthereflectiveceilingplans,interior elevations,caseworkdetails,floorplans,andmanyotherdrawingsinthe CDset.Iproducedmanyrenderingsofthebuilding,andpresentedinterior designconceptstotheclientsoverseveralmonthssothatwecouldbring theirvisiontolife.DuringtheConstructionAdministrationphase,I assistedtheprojectarchitectinansweringsubmittalsfromthecontractor toclarifydesignquestionsinatimelymanner.

Renderingofthesouthfacadeofthewineryasseen fromthevineyards.Icreatedthisrenderingforthe winery’smarketingpromotion.

Thisisaconceptualdesignofathree-bedroomtownhouse.Theclientplanstousethe designtobuildaneighborhoodoffamilytownhousesinamilitarybaseinJapan.This townhouseswillvaryinsquarefootage,andwillbejoinedinduplexesandtriplexes,as modeledopposite.Butalltownhouseswillretainthesamedesignlanguage,influenced bymodernJapanesehomedesign.MyroleintheprojectwasTechnicalLead.Iwas involvedinallthreestagesofprojectexecution.

STAGE1

Iconductedaseriesofinterviewsandhometourswithcurrentresidentsatthe militarybasetodeterminetheirneedsandpreferencesforhousing,andtoinvestigate theissuesofcurrenthousingonbase.Idraftedhanddrawnplans,sectionsand elevationsonsiteinacollaborativecharrettedisplaywiththeclientsandusers.I soughtinputfromtheclientsandcurrentresidentsinordertochooseapreferred alternative.

STAGE2

ImodeledthepreferredalternativeinRevit.Idevelopedtheconceptualdesignsinto drawingsandrenderingsforaCustomerConceptDocumentreport.

STAGE3

Ipresentedthedraftversionofthereportandlargeformatdrawingsonsiteto clients,andsolicitedcritiquesofthedesign.Ithenincorporatedclientsuggestionsin thenextiterationofconceptualdesigndocumentationinRevit.

Thefirstfloorfeaturesasmallfoyerfor shoeremovalandstorage(acommon featureinJapanesehouses)andafamily roomseparatedfromthemainlivingarea onthesecondfloor,whichcanbeusedfor personalstorage,akid’splayroom,oreven ahomebusinesssuchasahairsalon. Thereisgenerousstorageherefor outerwearandotherbelongings.The garageissuitableforonecarbuthas amplestoragespace.Thesecondflooris themostflexiblespace,containingthe kitchen,diningandlivingareas.Thestairs openintothedining/livingspace,where furniturecanbearrangedinany configurationeasily.Thekitchenfeaturesa stovetopisland,leavingplentyofusable counterspacealongtheedges.Thereisa breakfastnookintherear,andabalcony spaceinthefrontthatconnectsthe residenttothestreetfrontage,while maintainingasenseofsemi-privacy.The thirdfloorfeaturesthethreebedrooms. Themasterbedroomisnotseparated fromtheotherbedrooms,butplacedon thesamelevel,whichwasarequestof manycurrentresidents.Thelaundryroom wasgivenampledepthforusefuland abundantinteriorstorage.

CharbonneauGolfCoursecommissionedourfirmtodesignanoutdoor pavilionmeantforweddings,partiesandothersocialgatherings.Myroleon thisprojectwastomodelthesurroundingsiteinSketchUpforresearch andconceptualdesignpurposes.Then,IexpandedontheRevitmodelofthe pavilionbystructuringthespecializedroofframing.Iangledtheroofbeams, raftersanddeckingtocreatethestrikinganduniqueroofform.Ialso contributedtootherpartsofthemodel,suchasthecustomluminaire, fireplacedetails,andfurnitureplacement.
