About the authors
From the review
The book Nitrogen Dioxide and Black Carbon Concentrations in Ljubljana is an interdisciplinary work on air quality in Ljubljana. Authors Matej Ogrin, Katja Vintar Mally (Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana), Griša Močnik, Luka Drinovec (the company Aerosol d.o.o.), Asta Gregorič (Centre for Atmospheric Research, University of Nova Gorica) and Anton Planinšek (retired at the end of 2014, before Slovenian Environment Agency) have devoted many years to researching air quality from a number of different aspects. The book presents methodological, spatial, and meteorological aspects of research on nitrogen dioxide and black carbon pollution in the Ljubljana area.
Nitrogen Dioxide and Black Carbon Concentrations in Ljubljana
The material contained in this new publication on air quality in Ljubljana presents an interesting, informative, and highly relevant view of the problem of air pollution in the urban environment, in particular with respect to the predominant impacts of road traffic. The authors’ thorough analyses of air pollution from nitrogen dioxide and black carbon reflect Ljubljana’s successes in combating these environmental problems, shown also in light of the city’s award as European Green Capital 2016. The careful presentations of differences within the urban environment and the different types of urban space, and how this affects the spread of polluted air, with an emphasis in this case on trafficrelated pollution, will undoubtedly be of use to planners of city development and transportation policies. The publication also brings an interesting mix of knowledge and research experience and investigative methods from several generations of experts in different fields, which just serves to confirm the need to engage a very wide range of knowledge and experience in the study of environmental problems and in the search for effective solutions.
