SCAWBRIG BRIDLE
3-In-1 Bridle fitting.
Scawbrig Bridle: The bridle should fit like any other bridle, so the headpiece should sit comfortably behind the ears, and the browband just below the base of the ear and not be too tight. The noseband should sit approx. Two fingers width below the prominent cheek bone. You should be able to get two flat fingers at the front of the noseband and the back.
SIDEPULL BRIDLE STANDARD BRIDLE
The Scawbrig chin attachment provides extra pressure under the chin. The soft webbing chinstrap sits just behind the chin. You should be able to get 2 fingers between the chin and the strap. Replace the soft neoprene cover. There should only be 2cm of chin strap coming through the ring. The reins are then attached to the chin strap loops and gentle pressure is applied on the chin groove and nose.
Sidepull Bridle: If you are wanting to change between a Scawbrig and sidepull action while out riding, the reins
can simply be attached to the rings for the sidepull bridle. PLEASE NOTE: if using the sidepull bridle action, you may wish to tighten the noseband slightly to help prevent any excess sideways movement of the bridle. Standard Bridle: A bit can also be used with the bridle, while keeping all the bitless fittings in place, allowing you to convert to bitless while out riding. The bit will sit underneath the noseband with the chinstrap behind the bit ring.

Made from Zilco’s PN hard-wearing synthetic strapping, this 3-in-1 bridle features a matt finish, leather-look and feel, PVC waffle lining on both noseband and headpiece for added comfort, soft webbing chin strap with neoprene cover, removable gullet strap, and stainless steel fittings. As always, Zilco’s synthetic material requires very easy maintenance.
The bridle can be fitted as a Scawbrig, Sidepull or Standard bridle.

Bitless Bridle
Made from Zilco’s hard-wearing, easy to maintain synthetic strapping. A cross-over style bitless bridle, featuring under jaw straps, which add gentle pressure to the poll, nose and chin when rein pressure is applied.
All fittings are strong, lightweight stainless steel, and it also features PVC anti-gall waffle material on the nose and head for added comfort.
The Arab size has been designed to fit Ara bian type horses, however this bridle offers enough adjustment to fit some larger horses. For larger European type horses, the Full Size bridle will adjust to an Extra Full Size.

Hackamore Bridle Head
Lightweight and durable, it features a padded brow and headpiece for added comfort. The centre loop on the headpiece is designed for use with combination bits to attach the support string.
The cheek pieces are shorter than a standard bridle to allow different combination of bitless bits.

Flower Hackamore.
The Zilco flower hackamore is highly adjustable and allows many variations of attachment for complete customising to your horse.
Standard Action: Leave one circle open between the nose strap, rein strap and head piece attachment. The chin strap goes between the rein and head piece. For the standard rein attachment attach the reins to the longer circle rings. This creates a very gentle leverage effect by turning the wheel slightly with rein pressure.
Sidepull Action: For a side pull attachment move the rein to clip above the chin strap. Rein pressure then creates a simple direct side-pull action. Be careful that the metal ring does not get pulled up the face or rub the cheek bone
The cheek pieces will need to be shorter than if using a standard bit. Zilco have a hackamore bridle as part of their range designed to work with the Flower
Hackamore (page 17).
Stainless Steel Flower
The unique cheek design allows for multiple adjustment to increase or decrease poll pressure.
The ‘Flower’ should be nicely positioned in the open spot on the horses face right in front of the cheek bones. Adjust the nose strap and chin strap to be very snug but not too tight. The horse should be able to chew.
The metal should be no higher than 1 finger from the cheek bone. You should be able to fit 1 finger under the nose strap and 2 fingers under the chin strap. To fit simply remember “1-1-2”
Points to remember: Keep the noseband fairly high on the nose and not too low (there are fragile bones just above the muzzle area).
It’s very important to keep the straps snug and not too loose. It might seem that loose is ‘kinder’ but you risk rubbing – or worse, the entire metal piece can flip over with the rein pressure.

“S” Hackamore.
The “S” Hackamore should be fitted with the same principles as the Flower Hackamore, however it is simpler, as there are fewer options as to where to fix the cheek pieces or reins.
The cheek piece should feed through the loop on the top of the “S” and should leave the noseband sitting at the same height as other types of Hackamore; not too high, but not too low that it could restrict the horse’s breathing.

“S” Hackamore
The “S” shaped cheek reduces the severity of this hackamore as compared with the standard model. The cheek shape also allows easier drinking and eating when bridled.

The reins buckle on to the circular loop at the bottom of the “S”.
The noseband and chin strap can then be adjusted to around 2 fingers width, or as desired.
These instructions are just a rough guide and we would strongly recommend that you seek the advice of an instructor as to what level of adjustment would be most appropriate for you and your pony/horse.

Be-Nice Control Halter
