o us, sustainability is a long-term commitment. By using the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations as guiding principles, sustainability has become an inherent part of who we are and what we do. It is echoed throughout our universe; from our product range, made with the best of nature’s materials without harmful chemicals while certified to the highest environmental standards of our industry, over our use of recycled packaging to minimising waste on a day-to-day level. Working from a desire to breathe natural life into our heart, mind and body, we strive to make products that we feel like using on a daily basis while going the extra mile for the better of our environment. Here lies the commitment of ZENZ: To create the best products possible that fulfil their intended functions and provide a sense of holistic wellbeing with little impact on our planet. ZENZ was founded in 1999 from a yearning for a modern approach to sustainable beauty. We wanted to do things better and greener for the benefit of our bodies, our senses and our planet. Our products are developed by hairdressers, continuously working to ensure that hairdressers and consumers alike use products that are clean. As a part of this emphasis, we work with a number of recognised certifications. Nordic Ecolabel—the official sustainability label of the Nordic countries, setting strict requirements for all phases of the product’s lifecycle alongside restricting the types of chemicals used within the given product. Ecocert Cosmos Organic is a recognised certification for organic and natural ingredients. +Vegan certification Vegan Society represents the international standard for authentic vegan products. AllergyCertified label is an international allergy certification that checks for allergens, impurities and other chemicals that can cause disruption and skin allergy.

Though we stood mostly alone in 1999 when we set out on our sustainable journey, we want to inspire others to follow. As we see it, you do not have to be a global company to have global impact; you just have to do things well and others will follow.

ZENZ products are approved by Safe Salon—a Scandinavian initiative for hairdressers working to phase out harmful chemicals within the industry to avoid the use of substances that can be allergenic, endocrine disrupting or even carcinogenic.

Identifying inequality and the degrading of nature in our ecosystem is focal to how we approach the making of beauty products—it is from these very problems that sustainable solutions emerge, giving us the power to make our world a little better tomorrow than it was today.

At ZENZ a product must fulfil its intended function to the utmost degree while giving its user a sense of wellness and ease all done with little impact on our environment. If all three boxes aren’t ticked the product shouldn’t be put into the world.

ZENZ supports the girls—A collaboration with the Danish foundation PlanBørnefonden. Thousands of young women in Kampala, Uganda are forced into sex work to provide for themselves and their children. With the assistance of ZENZ some of these women have been empowered to find a way out of prostitution by being trained as hairdressers enabling them to support themselves.

This is where we nurture our motivation for the ongoing ZENZ journey towards a greener beauty industry; helping people around the world look good, feel good and do good at one and the same time.
