Dear Gaveliers

A newsletter is a collection of wonderful memories, a repository of splendid moments and an amazing treasure to cherish. It’s a platform to showcase our creativity, exhibit our achievements, recognitions, a space to share our thoughts and messages, in total it creates a lifelong memory. I am so happy to see that our VPPR Venus Rinith has taken a great deal of efforts to compile the contributions of our creative members and release this wonderful piece of treasure “Zenith Voice“. I take this opportunity to convey my sincere accolades and appreciations to Venus Rinith and all the contributing members.
Our Gavel club is one of the best place for self-development. Gaveliers, make use of this wonderful platform to build yourselves. We are what we frequently do, attend club meetings regularly and reap the benefits of this great forum. Come out your comfort zones, try attempting unique things in every meeting. Fake confidence and continue faking it until you make it. This is the only place where we learn by making mistakes. So don’t stop yourselves from attempting by fearing failure. Make use of every stage opportunity, greater the usage, lesser the fear. Always push yourselves to tasks you have never attempted before. Ask questions, be curious to learn new things. Ask for help, don’t shy away from trying new things. Great leaders are good listeners, and we learn this wonderful art from our club meetings. The evaluation technique we use in our meetings mould us into a better person. In short, the benefits we reap out of gavel clubs are so huge, and we hardly realise it until success adorns us. Success is a series of umpteen small attempts, we always look for the result and rarely value the journey, the steps we crossed. Enjoy the path, enjoy every moment of your gavelier journey. Wishing you all a successful and memorable gavelier journey.
TM Aparna Ranish Club Counsellor Zenith Gavel Club

Greetings!!
2021 was a year like no other- wildfires, ethnic cleansing, insurrections, and of course, COVID 19. But, even amidst all that chaos, there was a little good that shone through.
Over the past year, Zenith Gavels Club has had 22 vibrant online meetings, a blended meeting, and a year-end celebration meeting. We’ve won the District Championship for Table topics, Global Gavels Group A Championship for Table topics, and numerous prizes in division contests. We’d kick-started several series like News this Week, Rendezvous with Stars, and Storytime with Zenith for the holistic development of our gaveliers in 2020. They were continued, though, not to its full extent.
ZGC was the first gavel club to participate in the District Share and Grow series. We also formed an internal readers' club and have completed our icebreaker meeting. And, now we’ve almost put together our second newsletter.

There's a lot more to come in the new year. Hope to garner all the support and guidance to achieve it. Here’s to ZGC.

Gav. Janvi Ranish President Zenith Gavels Club

Greetings to Gaveliers, Toastmasters and Readers, “Don't be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” -Roy

T. Bennett
It is indeed my proud privilege to be the VPPR and newsletter editor of Zenith Gavels club. I cannot explain how grateful I am to publish the first newsletter of this term.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the counselors of Zenith, TM. Aparna, TM. Shanid and TM. Anu, for guiding me through these paths. I would also like to thank all the Gaveliers of Zenith for contributing to make this newsletter a wonderful one. Lastly, I thank my family for helping me out.
I joined Zenith Gavels Club 6 years ago, and ever since then I have seen a massive change in myself, my confidence shot up, my speaking skills sky-rocketed and most importantly, I got to see the experienced at work. I believe this is the case for all gaveliers.

As I have always dreamt of making a newsletter for Zenith, I present to you the first newsletter of this term, Zenith Voice. The theme is Dazzle 2022. I am sure all of you will have a great time reading this, for it will surely make you inspired, jovial and motivated.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a social bee, who loves to network, make new friends, and hang out with children. I am a passionate cook, who enjoys cooking and partying. I enjoy farming and love growing organic veggies. A recycler who tries to save up every waste hoping to turn them into beautiful creations.

What inspires you?

I derive inspiration from everything around me, If it is something that can put a smile on others, which can change someone's day ...then age, type, size category, etc ... doesn't matter at all. My gaveliers are my greatest source of inspiration.

What is one thing you can’t live without?
My family is my strength and my weakness. With them I am a hero and a zero without them. I cannot live without my family. If I can state more then it would be my friends and my passion.
What makes Zenith Gavels Club different from other gavels clubs?

Zenith Gavel Club is my baby, I have put my heart and soul into it. I love everything about it. I really can't comment on how different is it from other clubs as I rarely visit other clubs. But for sure, I can claim that we always stand out in our creative activities.
What is the biggest reward you have received so far?
Biggest reward on a personal note: My daughter once took out my name during a table topic speech and with some supporting evidence cited that I am her role model and she wishes to grow up like me.
Biggest reward on a generic note: The respect and love I experience from my gaveliers and my mentees.
What advice do you have for gaveliers?
Advice for gaveliers : Tomorrows Promise
Three nuggets of wisdom from my end to my little readers:
1. Our life is a reflection of our own actions, do good and be good.
2. Plan your work and Work your plan.
3. Never give up.
What is your motto in life?
Motto for life : Service to humanity, make a difference in someone's life, and above all BE ME always.

One fine day, I got a circular from my school about this amazing trip to the US. I thought, “Why not try something new? Travel alone!!”. I talked to my parents about this and they agreed with me. Then we paid the fees and made it happen. I went to the US on 1st September, 2019 when I was in grade 6. There were about 90 students along with me. It was a 10-day trip. I got very frightened at first as I was traveling alone without my parents for the first time. Later on, teachers guided me. On this journey I also got my best friend named Sehba who was from Kashmir. I had met her at the airport. She had thick brown curly hair and brown eyes, and she looked as pretty as the place she was from.

During this entire journey, the most beautiful thing that happened was this friend. The most exciting thing about this journey was the visit to NASA. We got trained at NASA for three days. i.e, September 5, 6 and 7. In this three day international camp, we did unique adventures and educational activities that cannot be found anywhere else. We also participated in real NASA experiments, program operated robots and enriching space activities. The focus of this camp was to inspire the "Mars Generation". Gradually, my trip came to an end. We returned to Qatar on 11th September 2019 at 5pm.

Have you ever had the courage to try something new like travel alone? When you try something new, you'll have new experiences, you’ll meet new people and you'll get friends for life!

Time management is very important in anything and everything we do. In fact, without time management nothing can function in this world. Let me give you examples. The earth revolves around the sun every 365 days, the birds wake up early in the morning to catch their food, the human body has a biological clock that wakes us up on time (but sometimes we refuse to wake up because we are lazy). If the earth stopped rotating for a day because of a disturbance in the magnetic fields, then it would have taken one more day for the Earth to complete its revolution.
Class 12

Similarly, the bird wakes up early in the morning because it knows that if it is late, it won't be able to catch its food. These are just a few examples of time management shown by the various things around us.

Allow me to give you an example where time management is not followed. For us (me and my cousin), our first class starts at 7:30 in the morning and ends at 8:15. We have a 15 min break between each successive class.
The problem here is that the teachers eat up at least 10 mins. of our break time. This does not give the child enough time to rest and stretch before the next class starts.
What bothers me the most is the fact that we are only given one month of summer vacation and despite having so many extra classes and stay back classes, the teachers rush to finish the portions or even end up leaving some portions for us to study. In my opinion, time management should be the most important trait any person should have. Let us assume that there is a meeting to be held at 7:00 pm tomorrow. If we all join 5-10 min early, the meeting will go smoothly and we can wrap up the meeting faster. But if we decide to join at 7:00 pm only, it will take at least 5-10 min for everyone to settle down and the meeting will end 5-10 min late. This is why time management is crucial.
If we analyze and exclude our daily routines and sleeping time, then we have at least 17 hours of productive time. If we can make specialized time slots for everything we do, then our life will run much faster and smoother (even if there is a ton of workload and pressure).

Science has proven that our brains are the most effective in the mornings and less effective in grasping information in the evenings.
I do not agree with the fact that a teenager's brain grasps more knowledge than any other brain. If an amazing math teacher were to teach anyone the concept of matrices right now, then anyone will understand it. So I firmly stand on my ground stating that age does not matter, but what matters is the methodology.

It was a fine sunny day and I was just immersed in my iPad in which I was playing a battle of Fortnite. It was so addictive. Only a few days ago, we landed at the Cochin International Airport from Doha. I was really tired after that big trip so I did not want to go out and play football/cricket in the mud. Whereas my parents on day one started cleaning and doing things which might have helped our grandad and granny. I was alone in the house as everyone was involved in doing something or the other.

My grandparents had to leave for Kozhikode to attend someone's marriage since, in Kerala, we usually have a tradition of going to the house a few days before the marriage and staying in the house of the person getting married. Their flight tickets were booked and scheduled to depart the next morning. We decided that we would go there by train since I liked to travel on the train. I helped with packing a few clothes for my grandparents and wished them a safe journey. After they left I had literally nothing to do so I went in front of the boring TV. (Now you curious readers might be thinking, why is the TV boring???). THE TV HAD ONLY NEWS CHANNELS where they talked boring stuff all the time about "Hartals" or Modi or Rahul Gandhi. I went and switched it on and it opened with a piercing white light which almost blinded me. That was when I see one lady who had no sense of fashion, wearing formals in a beach and discussing about some plastic thing found on the shore. She then said that the news was going to have a short break and they would be right back. But this short break felt like a 2 and half hour of a Rajinikanth movie. Then there was an announcement from another lady who was nearby the Idukki dam, saying that it was getting filled and really close to the dangerous level. I started wondering why ladies were more than men only in journalism.
I went out for a quick walk to get a jolly rancher from the nearby shop. That's when I noticed a fight between two people. Overhearing their fight, I realized that they were neighbours and one wasn't able to return the full loan that he borrowed. It may have been a few 100 rupees but this had irritated him. This fight was not very big but was able to bring out phones from every pocket. God might have seen this so started sending cool raindrops to cool down
The people started using our house as if it was their house. I wasn’t feeling very comfortable when the people were eating up all the bread and jam my dad had cleverly brought before the flood. The water started to seep in more and when it reached above my knees we went to the second floor. The people slept on the ground and the old lady slept on the mattress. I was not getting any sleep other than a lot of mosquito bites. I prayed to God, “The Flood has brought me enough hassle please can you move these mosquitoes away”. Since my birth, I had not seen a flood like this and since the Great Flood of 1924 has Kerala seen such a natural disaster. It was the second day and there was so much water around us but not a single drop was there to drink. Some of the lifesavers uploaded our location and asked for an immediate rescue. Nothing much happened, we all talked and talked even though we were damn hungry. The third day went on without food and I was just restless so I went up to the terrace and I found some fallen coconuts from the nearby coconut tree. I kept two of them aside and gave the rest of them to the refugees. I called my parents to eat the tender coconut with me since we all should take care of ourselves and our family before others. On day four we received some food from the relief services but no one was rescued by them. Later that day, a few motor boats came to our house but it wasn’t the navy it was the fishermen who rescued us. Those fishermen took us to a nearby camp where food, clothes, towels, and medicine boxes were given for our two-week tenure there. During this time, the water level was reducing and we had made a few lifelong friends here. We heard that the airport was going to begin operation soon.

My dad took his phone and booked the next available flight to Kozhikode. The flight had been scheduled for August 29. We had boarded the boat, which was on the way to the airport since there was a camp nearby there too.

We stayed inside the airport for a few hours.
We had a few dresses which we got from the camp. Finally, we took off at 1:00 pm on 29th August having a delay of one hour. We landed at Kozhikode airport and continued the rest of the journey to the house of a relative. We were so lucky to be alive and be a part of this wonderful adventure.

I know I've probably never told you, But my biggest fear is losing you, I can't imagine waking up in a cold sweat, To nothing but the faint smell of regret. Even though I talk back and push you away, I want you to know I’ll always care, Our little fights, and playful banters, Are little things I will forever treasure. The way your laugh lights up a room, Like a starry night with the glowing moon,

The way your eyes crinkle when you smile, Like a healing touch of chamomile.
Staying strong has always been your forte, A salvadore for everyone, everyday, Always there when I hit rock bottom, Your calm demeanor, I cannot fathom.
I often fear what's to come, If all is ever said and done, But I realize, there's nothing to be afraid of, As our bond is so strong, it’s unshakable.

I want to cherish all the moments we share, Like a pressed flower on a never ending page, Mother, I want you to know, I’ll love you no matter how far I go.

Once upon a time in a village there lived a wealthy merchant. One day he decided to go far away for business. He wanted all his wealth to be in safe hands. He had two daughters who were already married. One of them was married to a rich merchant like her father while the other who was

Class 8 married to a farmer who wasn't poor. Then the merchant’s wife said, “We should hand our property and wealth to our daughter who has been married to the rich merchant as robbery increases everyday in our village”. But the merchant was a clever and intelligent man. He had a plan in his mind. When the merchant’s wife noticed that her husband was thinking for a long time she asked him what he was thinking so much about. The merchant said that he had a plan. When it was night and the merchant was sure that one of the thieves was near his house he said to his wife “Dear, as I am going for a journey let’s give our wealth to our son till I return”.

The thief who heard this told this to his group. They planned to rob the money the next night. In the morning the merchant went to both his daughters houses and gave them a big box containing money. In reality, it was fake money. As planned, the thieves came the same night to steal the money. They were sure the merchant would give his money to his son-in-law, who was a merchant, as his house was more safe. So, they robbed the box and other things and left. The next day, the merchant went to the house of the farmer son-in-law and was happy that his money was safe. Then he went to the other son’s house and as he expected the money wasn’t stolen. Now the merchant was satisfied with the test and gave his wealth to the farmer son-in-law. He did not even have to worry now.

Sun shone brightly that day, the city was not resting like every other day, and the people were moving forward like every other day. She was sad, terrified that everyone was so lively and happy (or was she wrong?). She knew that however great you lived, you will die. Why do we die? Death that eats happiness (does it?).
Nonetheless she decided to meet death herself. She had no doubts about where to meet the death. She had chosen the most beautiful place to meet it, in the hills of Himalaya. She thought, death which took the beauty, the life of a place, must be where it is plentiful, and as a matter of fact, it was only a few miles away from the city.

As she climbed the hills, the trees danced to the song of breeze, the grass brushed her bare feet, the cold, green air filled her lungs. She was annoyed with herself because she was feeling good about the life which will end (will it?), taken by death.

She saw sights of life. Children were playing, the vendors were shouting and the dogs were roaming the markets, like every other day. Thoughts of death began to take the living moments of her life.
Yes, she believed that death is the cause of sorrow (is it?), but she wanted to meet the death to know the reason behind the very existence of it. Why would... She climbed the hill, showing no signs of fatigue. As time raced, the clouds started to cry and shout in despair, the sun went west and she reached the apex, which was blanketed by fog. The sight was mystical, it would have cooled her soul if it weren't for the haunting thoughts about death.
There! She saw a figure sitting, blurred, covered by the fog, she tried wiping her eyes, still unclear.... It spoke in its cold voice "Do I know you? Why are you here at my place?" She had mentally prepared for this moment... She firmly believed it was the death (or was she wrong?). She shouted, "Why the he-" Her heart pounded for the last time. She couldn't accept it... how could it end it so quickly? As she saw the last sight she understood, what she sought...
There was a farmer in a village, he had three sons. The farmer was a very hardworking man with many fields and farms. Unfortunately his sons were always lazy and just enjoyed their life on their fathers wealth. Many years passed. There was no change in their lives. The Father became old and he felt very sick and could not work. The next morning he somehow reached his farms and fields and put some seeds all over there. Then the father called his sons and told them that he had hide some treasure under the field. After a few days he passed away, the sons started to live with the savings but soon they ran out of money. Then they started to think about how to get money. Then they remembered their father’s words about the treasure. So they rushed to the field and started ploughing. The soil got ploughed and after a few days it rained and the seeds started to grow and they started to care about the plants. After a few months they got fruits and crops from the fields. Thus, they realized that the treasure that father mentioned was their hard work and the yield they got out of the hard work. From then on they started to work hard and lived happily.

Oh, she was a dream, a cascade of cherry sunshine in the mellow gleam, a crystal in the spotless southern sky.

She was told she was special, that she could colour the world but she was a broken paper doll, a nightmare, truth be told.
For all it took was one night, to leave her scarred for a lifetime to quench the rapt light from her eyes, and be reduced to a crime.

Burnt, she was in the dead of night drowned in the glossy moonlight now, she is a number, a report scene a hashtag on your TV screens.

Blamed, she was for her own assault, the damsel in distress left unsaved looked down upon sans fault, in tainted wood her name engraved. Oh, how long till we realize, that a skirt is no invitation how long till this broken verse, halts the aesthetic of rape ovation.

Let this be the beginning of the end, where no means no and nothing else where the untouched fight for their light cause- she is the poem, I never dared to write.

Countries around the world are scrambling to halt the virus,

Yes you know what I’m talking ‘bout the one and only disastrous.
Gav. Venus Rinith

Started in Wuhan on 31st of December,
Taking all lives, everyone remembers.
Fever, breathing issues and cough it allures, A case of pneumonia and multiple organ failures. A crown on its head, Yes it does spread.
From one animal to a human and now to millions,
No it won’t stop until we take actions.
You’d say “Now all these commotions shouldn’t have made more additions”, But sadly it did, and we’re running out of options. It doesn’t matter if we’re young or old, All we need to do is to stay bold. It’s a pandemic for sure, Social distancing a cure.

We should wash our hands regularly, That’s understood clearly.
Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth, Or it’d spread from north to south.

At this point in time a 4th wave might start, And soon we’d be locked in our house, It might feel like a jailhouse, but let’s not be the cause.
Let’s take our mind off things and think of other people, Let’s not be evil, rather be equal. Possibilities in these times, Might lead us to making dimes.
Who is Sudha Murthy? Well, that’s something I’m gonna tell you. Let’s start from the beginning… Sudha Murthy was born on 19th August in Shiggaon, India. She was born in a Brahmin family. Her father Dr R.H. Kulkarni, a surgeon and her mother Vimala Kulkarni supported her hard work and achievements right from her childhood and raised young Sudha along with her two siblings Shrinivas and Jaishree.

When she grew up, she became an engineering teacher, author and a social worker. She is also the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She is married to the cofounder of Infosys, N.R. Narayana Murthy. She has two children Rohan and Akshata Murthy. She also has 2 grandchildren Krishna and Anushka Sunak.

I’ve read a few books that she wrote and all this while, it is just so hard to stop reading them, that I have read them almost 20 times! Whenever I go for a vacation to India, I always have a list of books to buy, out of which most of them will be books written by Sudha Murthy.
Sudha Murthy has won many awards. These are some of her awards:

She is the recipient of the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature
She received the Padma Shri in 2006.
She received the Attainable Award from the Government of Karnataka for excellence in Kannada literature in 2011. She really inspires me to write books and since then I started writing one. Imagination is all its gonna take.
When toxic pollutants are added to our environment, this process is known as pollution. It makes the surroundings harmful for both living beings and plants. Pollution is the result of human activities, whether done unintentionally or deliberately. It has become a significant issue worldwide. Pollution leads to defective childbirths and high mortality rates in many parts of the world. It contaminates natural things like water, air, soil, and so on, harmful to humans and animals.
The pollutants that mix in the air directly affect living beings. While breathing, it gets into their bodies. Water pollutants are hazardous for living beings as well. Manufacturing and construction units are the prime sources of water pollution. People living near manufacturing factories often bear the consequences of water pollution, noise pollution, and air pollution.

The sad reality is that humans are the ones who are intentionally polluting the environment. It isn’t easy in today’s world to get an utterly pollution-free world. But, there is a way to decrease the level of pollution around us by controlling our activities, causing pollution.

“Best of morning girls, we have a lot of spring cleaning to do so no slacking off”, said Margaret, their mother, in a cheery tone albeit one with a hint of underlying warning that promised a week of no screen time if anyone was seen not helping.
“Definitely, I have nothing else to do or friends to talk to the whole spring vacation”, muttered Bess with an eye roll.
“Roger that, B”, whispered Eva.
“I am going to run by a friend’s house and stop at the grocery store, by the time am back your rooms should be……”

“Spotless”, replied the sisters who has heard the same phrase being repeated every spring as long as they could remember.
The Other Side

Of course, scoffed Bess, “the other side” what an amazingly descriptive name. And Bess did what any body would do when they come across a mystery door. Opened it.
“Holy cow” exclaimed Bess, eyes widening comically at the sight she saw.
Actual flying pods, floating water a spaceship all with a silver lining to them. Humans and unrecognizable non-humans walked on the sidewalks somehow having conversations to no one in particular, huge screens with, what Bess thinks to be news, playing in another language. She felt the metal floors and the place smelled oddly like window cleaner.
“Let alone being green, there is no grass at all on the other side”, noted Bess.
The End
Earlier in “The Tortoise and the Hare”
“And the winner is….. Timmy Tortoise!!!!”, announced Flynn Fox, with his best announcer voice, addressing the huge crowd of animals big and small. “Let’s all give Timmy a huge round of applause and appreciation for being the fastest runner in all of Jolly Jungles, even defeating our reigning champion , Harry Hare!!”.
“All say Hip Hip Hurray Harry”, bellowed Danny Dog.
“Hip Hip Hurray…… Harry?”, the confused animals muttered.
“Sorry, hard to teach an old dog new tricks”.
“Hip Hip Hooray Timmy!!!”
“So how do you feel losing the competition to a tortoise, Mr. Harry?”, asked Ro Rabbit, the jungle journalist, with a cheery smile.

If eyes could kill Ro would have been 6 feet under. “I don’t know, maybe you should ask Timmy on how it feels like to win?”, muttered Harry.
“That I should”, said Ro unfazed by Harry’s bitterness. Hearty Congrats,
You came here for a slow and steady wins the race story but you are going back with you can always count on your friends story. It might not be always jolly in jolly jungle but with friends like this, I can reliably tell that they lived happily ever.
The end, but this time for real.

“Didn’t I just –”
“Leave it be, Tim. This narrator is very unreliable“
“Figured, thank you for helping me practice Hare. Much appreciated”
“What are best friends for”, said harry as they both walked in the moonlit pathway to their secret – definitely not oak tree – hideout.

It so happened one day when my dad was talking with his friend on a normal Sunday morning. They were discussing about going somewhere and exploring the world but it was just a casual talk like we do every day. They did contact the travel office to enquire more on travelling. They had instructed us to bring the travel documents including Schengen visa which as a matter of fact was a hectic process in a short span. All of a sudden, came the approval and I was in cloud nine!
It was on an early wintry night, morning 4am when I woke up with so much enthusiasm even though I had slept at 11 last night. Everyone was busy with their own work, then I heard a loud scream. “Hey you, go dress yourself up, we have to

“What to do?” “What to do?" “What do I choose?".

These questions kept on bursting in David's mind. At the peak of his football career many called him one of the best young players in the world. One year ago before turning 19, he joined one of the prestigious clubs in Spain. He had everything but his life was still incomplete and he had to make the toughest decision of his career. His mind was in a battle with himself.
“I can't decide" said David to himself. “Never knew choosing a national team to join in for the world cup qualifiers would be such a big task.”
He had two options before him, two teams which want him really badly. One it's his native country, India. The land he was born in. He got the help of his uncle who made him who he is today. His family and friends supported him in his choice to become a footballer. This would be a way to repay them back by playing for his native country. But the other option was from Spain, the country he was playing football in. They had a really good team and unlike India had a chance to win trophies. And also it was because of the help from the Spanish, he was able to achieve his full potential and bring life to his dreams. He thought to himself why should he waste his entire international career playing for the Indian National team which people deemed as a hopeless team. Even people of the country where loosing hope. The choice was difficult to make, there would also be a lot of consequences for each decision he took.
If he chooses Spain people will call him a traitor, and he didn't want to loose his reputation either. If he choose India he would perceived as ungrateful. His Spanish colleagues will be disappointed in him but he couldn't run away from making a decision.
There is a press conference scheduled for the next morning and he has to announce his decision. He thought that life would be easy if he went after that little ball, but no, it wasn't.
He laid in bed trying to get a good night sleep but he was confused, he felt like a part of two worlds but didn't feel like he belonged in either of them. A complete but mismatched puzzle of identity which he is still trying to fix but the solutions seem impossible to find.
