Zeiterion Performing Arts Center's 2022/23 Season Brochure

2022 I 23 SEASON

In 1923, the building now known as the Zeiterion was constructed in the aftermath of the 1918 influenza pandemic. It was built as a palace for the people, a place to gather and celebrate. It’s had several names over its 100 years, and it has offered a variety of programming: the world premiere of Moby Dick with Gregory Peck in attendance, afternoons of Bruce Lee movies for just pennies, and international superstars on the main stage, like Yo-Yo Ma and Bernadette Peters, to name just a few. Now, on the dawn of the building’s next century – and turning the corner on another pandemic – we celebrate 40 years as the Zeiterion, Southcoast’s premiere non-profit performing arts center. We are in the midst of shaping our next 100 years, with our community at heart, and can’t wait to share what’s in store. In the meantime, we are excited to present The Z’s 2022/23 Season. It’s only possible thanks to amazing supporters like you, who attend performances, donate generously, and show up for our beloved theater time and time again. Thank you to all who’ve been part of our theater’s story. We look forward to the next 100 years!

Affectionately known as “the Trocks,” Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo are the World’s Foremost All-Male Comic Ballet Company that use gender-bending performance to place a tight lens on ballet’s inherent theatrics, employing comedy, and camp to tease the technical rigor underpinning it all. Founded in New York City in 1974 in the wake of the Stonewall riots, the troupe reclaims ownership of a discipline from which many have historically been excluded based on gender norms and strict physical standards. Irreverent and hilarious, the all-male company reimagines modern and classical works by relishing in ballet’s inherent glamour and melodrama. For those brought up in the rigid world of classical dance, the Trocks offer a fresh, joyful perspective. Arrive early for a free pre-show talk, Smashing Boundries, at 2pm! MARCH 3 8PM 15 25 35
