CAMBODIAN HISTORY QUIZ

“History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are” says a famous motto. make Zaman students aware who they are and build their future with the lessons they take from the past. Our main goal is basically to help them know their past. It was glad to see the students studying hard for the quiz and taking it serious. Also the increase in their interest on their history and culture is worth appreciation.

The students from grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 were allowed to enter the competition. They prepared questions about Cambodian History from course books and these were checked by several history teachers. Quiz questions were chosen among them.

One student from 9-A, 10-A, 11-A and 12-A each formed a group. The students of B, E and F branches also formed a group in the same way, which totally made 4 students in each group.

Also each of them was named with a city name.

The quiz was presented by Mr. Hakan, English Teacher. At the very beginning of the quiz, our school principle Mr Osman

KARACA gave his speech which also focused on the importance of history and culture: “History preserves the traditional and cultural values of a nation, and serves as a beacon light, guiding society in confronting various crises. History is indeed “a bridge connecting the past with the present and pointing the road to the future.” Due to history; we come to know who we are and where we are coming from. SCIENCE

Science Project Competition In the distant past, “Industry” meant “the making of basic materials and tools without the use of machines.”

Nowadays, the most profitable industry deals in knowledge and information. In the future, t h o s e w i t h t h e m o s t a dvanced scientific knowledge will guide their generation.

At ZIS, we emphasize the importance of science and technology.

We have organized a science project competition in order to make students aware of the concept of the scientific thought and to show them that science relies fundamentally on basic rules.

Students will be made aware that scientific innovation and the marvelous inventions we see today are the result of research and the practical application of scientific theories to solve problems.

Having prepared more than 45 projects, our students realized not only the ease of science but a l s o they found o u t that modern technology depends on very basic principles.

With the Water Rocket P r o j e c t , Monika Lavan was awarded 1st place, Kimthong Hak d e s ervedly took second place with a Khmer to Turkish dictionary project. Third place was taken by the mathematic cubes project by Kunthea Huot.

made during the science project competition, Vuthyka Men, Boramey Sopha, Thida Chann Sovutha, Linda Heng, Sonita Ea and Channary Chan Tauch are given awards of recognition. .

Above all else, the actual achievement gained by all who took part was the awareness of the value of science, how it changes our lives, and the nation of scientific thought.

Our main goal was to inoculate the students with a love of science, and to get a taste of invention and fining out new things.

I n spite of being organized of the first time, the high participation rate showed how enthusiastic and prepared the Cambodian students were, and it gains a chance, how they could even do better.

The building of prosperous future of a country is only possible with science and scientific research. Our hope is to increase the students' enthusiasm and interest towards science with the help of those kinds of activities.

As a result of those activities, we hope that some students would consider a career in science or engineering.

We are planning to improve the quality of the Science Project Competition gradually, which we hope will become an annual event.

Also, it is hoped that this is a first step to prepare our students for International science competition.

Students will study writing, reading and conversation skills, science, computer and mathematics in English. Students who graduated from the Bilingual Curriculum will get a Ministry of Education diploma and can continue their education both in any government or private schools.

Computer Olympiad antivirus cleans a very dangerous, infectious Parite.B virus.

According to the report of Panda Antivirus, Polymorphic Parite.B virus is the third virus in top ten virus list of 2003 with 5,58% share. This is the first antivirus software that is developed in Cambodia. This software is the result of continuous hardwork which started in November 2006.

We are delighted to inform you that Zaman International School (ZIS) will join The International Project Competition InfoMatrix!

InfoMatrix attracts more than four hundred young students from more than 32 countries each year to compete with the best science projects and it's

becoming more and more widely known. The contest allows students to experience five days of scientific and cultural exchange, and it emphasizes the importance of science and IT, and it inspires and encourages young people to take an interest in research.

Since ancient times, numerous “seven wonders� lists have been created. The content of these lists tends to vary, and none is definitive. The seven wonders that are most widely agreed upon as being in the original list are the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which was compiled by ancient Greek historians and is thus confined to the most magnificent structures known to the ancient Greek world. Of all the Ancient Wonders, the pyramids alone survive.

The Pyramids of Egypt are three pyramids at Giza, outside modern Cairo. The largest pyramid, built by Khufu (Cheops), a king of the fourth d y n a s t y, h a d a n o r i g i n a l estimated height of 482 ft (now approximately 450 ft). The base

has sides 755 ft long. It contains 2,300,000 blocks; the average weight of each is 2.5 tons.

Estimated date of completion is 2680 B.C. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were supposedly built

by Nebuchadnezzar around 600 B.C. to please his queen, Amuhia. They are also associated with the mythical Assyrian queen Semiramis. Archeologists surmise that the gardens were laid out atop a vaulted building, with provisions for raising water.

The terraces were said to rise from 75 to 300 ft.

The Statue of Zeus (Jupiter) at Olympia was made of gold and ivory by the Greek sculptor Phidias (5th century B.C.).

Reputed to be 40 ft high, the

statue has been lost without a trace, except for reproductions on coins.

The Temple of Artemis (Diana) at Ephesus was begun about 350 B.C., in honor of a non-Hellenic goddess who later became identified with the Greek goddess of the same name. The temple, with Ionic columns 60 ft high, was destroyed by invading Goths in A.D. 262.

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was erected by Queen Artemisia in memory of her husband, King Mausolus of Caria in Asia Minor, who died in 353 B.C. Some remains of the stru ctu re a re i n th e Bri ti sh Museum. This shrine is the source of the modern word mausoleum.

The Colossus at Rhodes was a bronze statue of Helios (Apollo), about 105 ft high. The Pharos (Lighthouse) of Alexandria was built by Sostratus of Cnidus during the 3rd century B.C. on the island of Pharos off the coast of Egypt. It was destroyed by an earthquake in the 13th century.

Being a teenager can at times be incredibly confusing and fru stra ti n g . So me ti me s th e things going on inside you head, make absolutely no sense. One day you feel happy and joyful but in the next you seem to be sad and angry. Some people say that sign of depression were thought of suicide, wanting to try new things, being rebellious, even ditching friends, being moody around them. If you meet all this weird things, here are some ideas that you may try: Talk-First and foremost, talk with someone you trust. Tell them exactly what you are thinking and feeling and ask them to help you search for options, understand what is happening, etc.

Pray- Prayer is talking to God. Tell God how you feel and ask for his help.

Work- You cannot simply stand still and let the pain bludgeon you. You have to do something. It can district you in some small way from the pain.

Thin- Stop and think and gain a rational perspective on your problem. Writing and talking both help the process.

Cry- There is nothing wrong with crying. It is a way to grieve.

Join-Join a new club or group.

Sometimes getting involved in a new activity can help take your mind off things. Look for something different that will take your mind off of the problem at hand.

3.Rebellion – many teenagers take up smoking because they know it annoys/bothers/ infuriates their parents and other adults. There is also a certain element of “independence” or “doing what is not allowed” or “walking on the wild side” worked in as well.

4.Adult aspirations – some teenagers believe that by smoking they are acting like an adult. If the teenagers is raised in a community where most of the adult smoke, then this is perhaps a logical conclusion.

Relationships Relationship has a lot of kind. It is made up of two people between parent and child, teacher and student, friends and between two opposite sex. Every people in the world, from child age to adult, they must have a connection to other people.

Especially as a teenager, they would like to have relationship such as: friendship, love etc…

Where as, love etc… Where as, if we are teenager, especially being students, we shouldn't have a love relationship, it affects us badly. Firstly, it will disturb our brain and emotion. If there is love in our mind, we can not receive anything beside it, so we might eliminate our education easily, by ship off the school and not concentrate in the lesson any more. Secondly, it is mostly effect on our feeling and we may as well had mental problem, if we go on like that. To conclude, if you are a teenager, and you want to have that kind of relationship, stop and think for a moment, is it good or bad? Does it give you any advantages? After that you will understand and know what you are going to do.

Addiction The problem for many teenagers, and for nearly every teenagers who smokes, is that the choices are not conscious decisions – they are reactions.

You can go back and change many of these decisions later, but smoking is not one of them because smoking is additive.

Every adult smoker started smoking as a teenager because of a silly decision made by their teenage brain, but once addicted to cigarettes it is impossible to stop! Here are the four main reasons adult smokes would love to quit smoking: 1.Smoking has serious health consequences. On average, each minute of smoking reduces a person's life expectancy by a minute. When you consider that a two-pack-a-day smoker consumes on the order of 600,000 cigarettes in a lifetime, and it takes three to five minutes to smoke a cigarette, this is a Sopanha Sarath significant factor.

2.Smoking is addictive. Once you get hooked it is very difficult to stop. Once hooked, you hooked, you have to stop every half hour or so and smoke another cigarette. You have no choice!
