The Monarch San Antonio is About to
Take Flight
Elegance and sophistication, culinary innovation, new leadership and a feeling of momentum define Zachry’s latest hospitality milestone. A growing sense of excitement is happening within Zachry Hospitality as The Monarch San Antonio Hotel approaches its grand opening. From putting the final touches on design to unveiling three distinct dining concepts and opening reservations to the public, The Monarch is quickly becoming a showcase of creativity, collaboration, and craftsmanship. Behind the scenes, Chef Jae H. Lee is pulling from his 20+ years of culinary and entrepreneurial experience to shape a trio of dining experiences designed to reflect the spirit and sophistication of The Monarch. Oak & Amber, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is an upscale steakhouse emphasizing premium cuts, decadent seafood, and seasonal ingredients. Guests can watch chefs prepare dishes over a wood-fired open hearth from the restaurant’s two open kitchens. Nectarie Café will offer a lighter, bistro-inspired approach to breakfast and lunch, emphasizing fresh flavors and seasonal produce. “I modeled it to feel like a place you might stumble into if you were walking around France,” said Lee. And Aleteo, the rooftop bar and lounge, will provide a relaxed yet elevated setting with panoramic city views and a curated menu of small plates sourced from the Yucatán region of Mexico. Together, these three venues offer a breadth of culinary experiences that celebrate both regional and global influences.
Pictured: Oak & Amber
For those interested in planning their first visit, The Monarch is now accepting reservations for stays through May 2026 and beyond. Individual stays and group bookings, including meetings, conferences and events, can be scheduled well into the future with some major events already planned as far out as 2028. Guests are encouraged to plan early to secure their preferred dates and room types. The hotel features 200 guest rooms including 28 suites on floors 4–16 with views of the Hemisfair Park Historic District and downtown San Antonio. Suites offer private balconies. Reservations can be made through the hotel website at themonarchsa.com. As The Monarch prepares to open its doors, two recent leadership announcements highlight Zachry’s focus on operational excellence and team development. Rick Slutter was promoted to Managing Director of Hotels after joining the team earlier this year. His strategic focus and steady leadership have guided several key transitions. In his new role, Slutter will oversee company operations and lead initiatives that enhance the team member experience and service standards. Patricia Janssens joined Zachry Hospitality as General Manager of The Monarch San Antonio Hotel. With extensive experience in luxury hospitality and a passion for guest experience and team development, Janssens will help position The Monarch as a premier destination. With new leadership in place, a talented culinary mind at the helm, and reservations now available, The Monarch stands ready to welcome guests and set a new standard for elevated hospitality in San Antonio.

Fall Fun at Zachry’s Family Picnics Zachry team members and their families gathered this fall for the company’s annual Zachry Family Picnics held at three amusement parks. The events were organized by the Zachry Family Picnic Event Team, who handled everything from logistics to ticketing.
attended and made the most of the day thanks to great planning by committee member Lorrie Smithers and her team. “Torrential rain came down, but we still had fun,” said Executive Assistant and HR Support Maribel Salas.
The first picnic took place September 27 at Carowinds in North Carolina where nearly 300 people attended. Despite the threat of bad weather, the day stayed clear, and families enjoyed time together with food, games, and rides. That event was coordinated by committee members Lauren Hinkle and Luisa Gomez. On October 11, more than 3,000 people turned out for the San Antonio picnic at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, led by the Zachry Family Picnic Event Team. The final picnic was held October 18 at Six Flags Over Texas. Even with heavy rain, about 1,000 people
This year also marked a big step forward in how the picnics were organized. For the first time, team members could order tickets online through a new bilingual website developed by the committee and Zachry’s IT department. The site made it easier to print or email order forms and complete payroll deduction forms for purchasing extra guest tickets. The group is already making improvements to the system for next year and hopes the tradition will keep growing as more team members and their families take part.

Throughout September, Zachry team members from across all companies and locations, along with their families, came together for our annual Days of Caring volunteer event. This companywide tradition continues to be a powerful reflection of our Core Values in action. This year, about 300 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to support five incredible nonprofit partners making a lasting difference in the communities where we live and work. While Zachry’s commitment to service extends far beyond a single month, Days of Caring reminds us what is possible when we unite. Pictured: Asheville Greenworks

Zachry Expands Its Footprint Through Strategic Growth Zachry Corporation continues to build on its long-term growth strategy through two recent acquisitions that strengthen both its materials and construction businesses. With the addition of Arcline Ready Mix in South Texas and Crescent Constructors in North Texas, Zachry is broadening its capabilities, expanding into new markets and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth.
Arcline Ready Mix: Expanding Materials Capabilities in South Texas In August, Zachry Corporation acquired the operations of Jarco Ready-Mix and formed Arcline Ready Mix, a new company that will deliver high-quality concrete for residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects throughout South Texas. The acquisition includes six strategically located batch plants serving the Central and South Texas regions.
“This was an opportunity to support our upstream business through vertical integration,” said Mike Wallace, vice president of sales and marketing at Capitol Aggregates. “We are looking at businesses that complement our aggregates and cement operations. Arcline fits that strategy perfectly.” Arcline will operate as an affiliate to Capitol Aggregates. Together, these companies strengthen Zachry’s overall

“We began looking at the water market statewide due to the tremendous need for new and upgraded facilities,” said Sam White, vice president, Zachry Construction. “With the population growth in Texas and the funding being directed to these projects, it made sense for us to enter this market.” Crescent builds complex water and wastewater treatment facilities, performing mechanical, structural, and civil work. Its experience complements Zachry’s existing strengths in concrete paving and earthwork.
“There is a good synergy between what we are good at and what they are really good at,” White said. “They checked every box for us in terms of market expertise and company culture.”

position across the construction materials supply chain. Arcline’s operations will be supported by existing shared resources allowing for immediate alignment and efficiency.
Crescent currently has a backlog of approximately $370 million and annual revenue between $78 million and $100 million.
Arcline is expected to generate approximately $35 million in annual revenue for Zachry. Its work mix currently includes about 60 percent residential projects with the remainder divided among commercial and infrastructure projects.
family of companies and get to know their team members
“This acquisition gives us a platform for future growth in ready-mix,” Wallace said. “It is very difficult to grow organically in this business, so thoughtful acquisitions like this one are key to our overall strategy.”
Crescent Constructors: Entering the Water and Wastewater Market In October, Zachry Construction completed its first acquisition with the purchase of Crescent Constructors, Inc., a water and wastewater treatment contractor based in Plano, Texas. The company has served the Dallas–Fort Worth region for more than 20 years and employs more than 100 team members.
“The first step is to integrate Crescent into the Zachry and leadership better,” White said. “This is an exciting acquisition in a market we have been eager to enter.” Crescent will continue to focus its operations in the Dallas– Fort Worth area, where the company has built long-standing relationships with municipalities and developers.
Purposeful Growth, Shared Strength The additions of Arcline Ready Mix and Crescent Constructors reflect Zachry’s commitment to intentional, strategic expansion and long-term value creation. Each company brings specialized expertise, regional strength and experienced team members who share Zachry’s focus on quality and reliability. Together, they represent the next step in Zachry’s continued expansion into new markets.

AGGREGATES INC
Connecting Students and Educators with the Aggregates Industry
AGGREGATES INC
Strengthening the concrete industry of tomorrow starts today. That is why Capitol Aggregates is helping build the next generation of industry leaders through hands-on outreach and education partnerships across Texas. Senior Quality Control Manager John Wedgworth works closely with students in the Cement Industry Management (CIM) and Construction Science Management (CSM) programs at Texas State University and The University of Texas at San Antonio. Through classroom visits, scholarship programs, and campus meet-and-greets, he and other Capitol team members share insights about the aggregates industry and help students see the range of career opportunities available beyond traditional concrete or ready-mix operations. To reach students in memorable, impactful ways, Capitol donates materials and funding to unique competitions such as the Concrete Canoe and Concrete Bowling Ball challenges, while also providing about $30,000 in scholarships through the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) San Antonio chapter.
®

Wedgworth serves on the ACI board of directors and the Texas State Patrons Board which helps educate students on the industry at large while connecting them with employers. His involvement has also inspired new ways for Capitol to engage younger audiences including future outreach to local elementary and high schools near company sites. “Planting the seed early can really carry them all the way through graduation or college,” said Wedgworth. In July, Capitol also hosted 15 educators, including the 2024 Texas Teacher of the Year, at the company’s Solms Quarry as part of the Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association and Texas Mining & Reclamation Association’s Industrial Minerals Teacher Workshop. The teachers toured active quarry operations and reclamation sites gaining firsthand knowledge they could bring back to their classrooms. By opening its sites and sharing expertise with these teachers, Capitol further strengthened its role as both an employer and an educator helping students and teachers alike see how the aggregates industry shapes everyday life.

Lift Plan with 3D Printed Models 24054 The North Carolina Haywood Beaver Dam Road project involved a complex lift of a 55-foot-wide arched concrete culvert that required each section to be lifted off the trailer in a flat position and rotated in the air to an upright position using 12 pick points using both the main hook and ball line from a single crane. To verify calculations, the team printed a scale 3D model with solid infill to simulate uniform concrete density

and used scaled sling lengths and blocks to model the rigging allowing sling angles to be measured within a couple of degrees of accuracy. Calculating sling angles with multiple pick points and blocks required complex three-dimensional ellipse equations; the 3D model allowed these values to be measured directly to verify calculations and ensure required sling tension capacities were adequate. During midair rotation certain slings were slacked and not taking load, and the team checked adjacent pick points for additional imposed loads—something that would have been difficult to visualize without the model. The team also verified the center of gravity location, minimum ground clearance during rotation, and overall lift feasibility, simplifying a complex problem using the 3D printed model. Pictured: First photo: Model is at mid rotation showing how blocks and slings will act. Second photo: Model is at the full upright position after the rotation is completed.

Safety Zone SPOTLIGHTING WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION DURING INCLUSION WEEK
Pictured: Eloisa Lopez
During Construction Inclusion Week this October, Zachry Construction highlighted a member of its safety team who has built a career around looking out for others. Safety Coordinator Eloisa Lopez began in a field role and advanced into a safety leadership position where she now plays an important role in keeping crews safe and connected.
Lopez, based in the Raleigh area, joined Zachry in 2019 and began in traffic-control work. She now serves as a safety coordinator on the East Coast where she conducts monthly safety training sessions across the Carolinas. Lopez brings strong leadership skills and valuable field experience to both her safety work with Zachry and her involvement with ZWBG.
“There is a lot of trust that goes into putting people in positions like this,” said Corporate Safety Director Donnie Connell. “She has earned that trust because she is a special person, and we are very proud of her.” Lopez recently participated in the Zachry Women Breaking Ground Conference in San Antonio, where the theme “Discovering Your Super Powers” encouraged attendees to recognize their strengths and the impact they make each day. She shared stories about how inclusion and safety work together and how a willingness to learn, speak up and lead by example can create lasting improvements on every job site.

Zachry Expands Water Infrastructure Portfolio Across South Texas
Pictured above: Wesley Seale Dam
Zachry Construction is strengthening its foothold in South Texas’ growing water infrastructure market through a series of dam and levee projects that demonstrate both technical capability and relationship-driven growth. Following the success of the $34 million Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) Lake Dunlap Spillgate Replacement Project, which was completed safely, on time and within budget, the team has built a strong reputation among regional owners and engineers. This performance opened doors to additional opportunities across the region. Among these are the City of Corpus Christi’s Wesley Seale Dam, the Palmetto Dam under the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority and a Lane City Reservoir project recommended directly by GBRA. Each project reflects Zachry’s approach to aggressively pursuing work that aligns with its core strengths in large-scale water retention. “We are being selective and strategic,” said Weston Baros, business development manager. “Our focus is on projects where we can deliver real value.” Looking ahead, Baros views Zachry’s success in South Texas as the foundation for a broader entry into an expanding water infrastructure market. Zachry’s recent acquisition of Crescent 12 | ZACHRY ADVANTAGE ISSUE 4, 2025
Constructors is the latest step in this direction expanding the team’s scope into the North Texas area. By continuing to focus on dam, levee, and water retention projects, a niche that has already proven successful for the team, Baros plans to strengthen Zachry’s reputation with the select group of engineers and owners who drive this specialized sector. “These projects have become our entry point into the water world,” said Baros. “They have allowed us to build trust with key partners and position ourselves for continued growth as both the company and the market expand.” Pictured below: Palmetto Dam Construction Site
Major Project Completions Across North Texas
Panther Creek Parkway – Frisco, TX Project Manager Daniel Schaale and his team are wrapping up the $54 million Panther Creek Parkway project for the City of Frisco. The work stretches between the Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road adding six lanes of new roadway, three bridges, two traffic signals, drainage, retaining walls and lighting. The project is expected to reach completion in late October with final work wrapping up by mid-December. Schaale said the biggest challenge was the tight 18-month schedule, compounded by coordination with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and working around construction of the nearby Universal Studios park.
Zachry is closing out several large infrastructure projects across North Texas marking another productive year for the company’s roadway and civil construction teams. From Frisco to Fort Worth, the teams have delivered new bridges, road extensions, and drainage improvements all designed to keep pace with rapid regional growth.
Lucas Boulevard Reconstruction – Mesquite, TX Since the project started in 2023, Project Manager Paul Kramer and his team have been working on a $25 million reconstruction of Lucas Boulevard for the City of Mesquite. The two-mile stretch, which runs between two busy high schools, was expanded from a twolane farm road to a four-lane thoroughfare with a center turn lane. Crews also installed large underground drainage boxes and built a new bridge over a nearby creek. Kramer said that heavy traffic during school hours (and frequent rain) made scheduling work difficult. Challenges notwithstanding, the project is set for substantial completion at the end of October with final work finishing in late November.
State Highway 114 Improvements – Tarrant County, TX
Conflans Road Extension – Irving, TX In Irving, Senior Project Manager Karim Atiyeh and his team recently completed work on the Conflans Road Extension for the City of Irving with substantial completion reached on August 22. The $26 million project extends Conflans Road one mile across Bear Creek finishing the final link in a longplanned corridor highlighted by a newly constructed 13-span bridge. Atiyeh said the biggest challenge came near the end when the city added a series of last-minute scope changes ahead of its ribbon-cutting. Despite the shifting priorities, Zachry met the city’s deadline for substantial completion.
Project Manager Ian Stephenson oversaw the $31 million TxDOT project connecting SH 114 to Dove Road through Westlake and Southlake. The work added and widened frontage roads and built new entrance and exit ramps along one of the region’s busiest corridors. Despite delays from utility conflicts across six construction phases, Stephenson said the project reached substantial completion in late September with no liquidated damages. Together, the four projects represent more than $135 million in infrastructure improvements across North Texas, each supporting regional growth, easing congestion and improving daily commutes for thousands of drivers.

Vuelo

QUEREMOS ESCUCHARLO
A USTED 2 | ZACHRY ADVANTAGE EDICIÓN 4, 2025
