ONE MAN’S THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WORLD AND THE PEOPLE THAT ARE LIVING IN IT It’s a wonder thing how our minds can operate when it comes to understanding the creation of mankind. How man will go throughout this life, some achieving their dreams and goals and some not so fortunate in achieving their dreams or goals. I am sure there are many ways that this life is thought out, but below is the thoughts of one man’s way of seeing the world. Enjoy as you read this article “All the world is a stage, and all the men and women are merely players; they have their exists and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts”

Each of us are the Four Mighty Ones that constitute the selfhood of man, or God in man. These Four Mighty Ones are four different aspects of our mind. In the drama of life these Four Mighty ones are the most important four characters in how our life plays out. They are: 1. The Producer, whose function is to suggest the theme of the play. The wish, the thing desired. 2.

The Author, whose function is to write only the last scene of the play. It must dramatize the wish fulfilled. 3. The Director, whose function is to make sure that the Actor remains faithful to the script and to rehearse it over and over again until it is natural and real. 4. The Actor, whose function is to perform within themselves, in imagination the predetermined action which implies the fulfillment of the wish, until it becomes a reality through obedient desire.

When man discovers that life is a play, which he, himself is consciously or unconsciously writing he will cease from the blind, selftorture of executing judgment upon others. Instead, he will rewrite the play to conform to his ideal, for he will realize that all changes in the play must come from the cooperation of the Four Mighty Ones within himself.

They alone can alter the script and produce the change. Man should seek to become conscious of this drama.

By Gary Martin Now, more than ever before prospective employers are requiring higher educated job candidates. Before a prospective candidate can even be considered for a job interview, let alone land that sacred position. Job candidates must show a level of technical competence in one or perhaps many different fields of study. The demand for employment is so high, many employers have taken the stance that they can offer low wages for a higher skilled worker. Candidates that have been turned down for positions, due to a lack of current skills often decide to re-enroll in school to enhance their chances of becoming employable to prospective employers.

Once these candidates have enrolled in an institution, they often take on educational debt that they are unable to payback, due to being unemployed. Students should take advantage of no cost or low cost alternative educational programs, to acquire new skills or upgrade the skills that they currently have. These no cost or low cost programs that are provided through platforms such as Coursera, edX, Alison, and numerous others are highly respected and have proven to be a great asset to employers in need of updating their employees skill set.

This is where Mooc (Massive open online course) provides an alternative for the working adult, homemaker, high school graduate, employee, etc. It affords a student the ability to enroll in a desirable course online at no cost. These courses are usually provided by well known colleges and universities that the majority of students would not be able to afford or be accepted to, due to the exclusivity of the institutions. Universities such as Duke, Penn State, Brown, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Stanford are just a few prestigious institutions that unless one has been living under a rock, they have heard of these institutions.

Community outreach is one of the reasons that these highly respected and prestigious institutions offer these courses. Another reason is that some of these institutions evaluate new curriculum on Mooc students, before they include it into their in-house curriculum. These institutions understand that the students that attend these mass online courses would not otherwise be exposed to content of this quality.

The various courses that are offered range from an average English Literature course to Advanced Electrical Engineering courses. Some of the Mooc providers have partnered with institutions to offer specialization certificates within a particular field of study. By grouping multiple course offerings together that compliment one another. They are giving students a low cost alternative to showcase a verifiable certificate to a potential employer. These courses are a great way for students who would like to get their feet wet in a major, but do not want to commit monetary resources to it just yet. The courses give students the ability to create their own diverse knowledge in either a particular field, or many different fields of study. Prospective employers are attracted to job candidates that have the ability to wear multiple hats within their organization.

Stories Under The Rug

By Bonnie Here we have three short stories. Bonnie is the Owner of a Cleaning Service Business.

She has worked her business for years and years. Well, throughout Bonnie’s career she encountered countless situations and decided to write about some of those situations.

Some of her stories have a funny little twist to them. Hope you enjoy Bonnie’s stories which she calls, “Stories Under The Rug”. Bonnie is a born again Christian and loves the Lord.

THE NO TIP CLIENT The client’s name was James and cleaning his house was to be a one-time job. James lived on Brockton Street across from the board of real estate office. Honestly he was a creepy man with extremely long fingernails, I actually had never seen a man with such long nails. But, just the same I had a job to do and went on to do it.

Cleaning was a little over an hour with his bedroom, bathroom and kitchen done, I was now in the living room which actually took the longest to clean. After 40 minutes past I was down on the home stretch and just about finished but I had yet to clean the sofa and all the mess that laid on it. Later removing the cushions to vacuum the dirt and crumbs that lay beneath them I came across what looked to be a white piece of paper, using the vacuum attachment I soon would find out that the white piece of paper was in fact an envelope one that enclosed $2800. Needless to say my eyes open with amazement and would soon give the envelope to James. He asked me where I had found it, which I explained. At home later that evening thinking about the day with James, I couldn’t help but think of the money and wondered had he bought the furniture second hand and did he even realize that the envelope was in there. What I do know is he didn’t give me a tip.

Just blessed to do God’s work.

DEGREES 97 HOT Ellen always had a house that was hot. She would have the thermostat set at 97 degrees and would always say it was cold. Ellen would soon ask me to join her in finalizing her funeral arrangements and that I did. She was a woman who knew exactly what she wanted and would go on to make her own final arrangement which was to lay her in a finely crafted mausoleum, one that she would insist on being placed in at the top. It was her belief she would be closer to God that way. Ellen had been an army nurse in the forties and was now getting up in age. One day while cleaning her piano, I took down the many photos placed on top of it, to dust them off shortly after placing them back Ellen came into the room screaming. I asked her what was wrong and she went on to tell me I hadn’t placed the photos back as they should have been and that I had the living people mixed among the people who has passed. Well, I thought that was just the funniest thing I had heard. I laughed all the way home thinking about the pictures.

A few months ago my publisher’s article reflected my feelings about Facebook. My article was one of loving Facebook because it gave me an opportunity to see some of my family’s life that I would not have had the opportunity to see. I’ve seen their comments, photos and interesting poems and videos that they shared with their family. Also, there was somethings that seemed that was very uncomfortable that I saw or read, but I had to face reality and know that I face some of those same situations outside of Facebook.

My biggest enjoyment is seeing my grandchildren’s photos, copies of their report cards, their excitement when they’re at different events such as recreational parks or just having fun taking silly pictures of themselves. I also like Facebook because I use it for advertising purposes that involve my advertisers and our outreach “Loving On Our Youth.” I have found that it’s a wonderful media tool.

Now, there was a downside for me a few years back with the internet/computer.

That’s when I figured out how to play the game called FreeCell, I figured it out all by myself. I cannot blame anybody for the journey that I took when learning that game. I learned how to play the game when I owned a Retail Store in the city of Pomona. The store had some slow days and instead of doing my store duties I would sit there and play that game. Learning that game was the worst thing I could have ever involved myself with. It seemed as though I couldn’t think of anything else but playing that game.

Please don’t get me wrong, games are ok for some, but not for me, but when it started to take up so much of my valuable time it was not a game anymore it’s an addiction. I had to let that FreeCell game go. I will not involve myself with any more games that are offered on the internet. My journey was one of guilt!

I see different people playing these games in their workplace and I know this because they will invite me to play and when I look at the time, they should be working, such as candy crush and so on … I have close friends and family members that are complaining that their kids or spouses do nothing but play games when they should be looking for a job, doing their homework or something constructive.

Whether I’m at a restaurant, appointment, banking, grocery shopping it doesn’t matter everybody is playing games. Socialization with others is rare and I am glad that I personally know that playing these games is not good for me, I like to socialize and not be controlled by electronic devices.

My niece just the other day was disgusted because her friend can’t find a job, but have no problem finding his comfortable chair and playing his games all day what a waste of precious time. It’s sad to see how jobs, education, family relations, goals have been placed in the background as a result of these games.

Let’s get our focus back and see just how much progress we can make…

Advances in Prosthetics

A prosthetic hand that is connected directly to the brain successfully enables a paralyzed man to “feel” again, according to researchers at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The 28 year old man, who suffered a spinal injury and has been paralyzed for more than a decade, was able to control a robotic hand with his brain and reported being able to sense physical sensations.

Researchers attached electrodes to the man’s sensory cortex, the area of the brain responsible for identifying tactile sensations, such as pressure. Electrodes were also placed on the patient’s motor cortex, the part of the brain that directs body movements. Wires were run directly from the electrodes to the mechanical hand, which was developed by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland. Using this connection, the man could control the robotic hand’s movements using the same types of thoughts, or neural connections, that the brain uses to move a hand normally.

In addition, because the prosthetic hand was connected to the sensory cortex, the patient could feel when the hand was being touched, even when he was blindfolded.

The research is part of DARPA’s Revolutionizing Prosthetics program, which aims to develop a prosthetic that can not only be controlled by sending signals for the

brain, but can also sense precisely what those devices are touching.

“Prosthetic limbs that can be controlled by thoughts are showing great promise,” DARPA program manager Justin Sanchez said in a statement, “but without feedback from signals traveling back to the brain it can be difficult to achieve the level of control needed to perform precise movements. By wiring a sense of touch from a mechanical hand directly into the brain, this shows the potential for seamless bio-technological restoration of near-natural function.”

DARPA has tested the program’s first few dozen volunteers, who had neurological problems unrelated to

memory loss, agency officials said. These volunteers had small electrode arrays placed in brain regions known to be involved in the formation of declarative memory, or simple memory used to recall lists, as well as in regions involved in spatial memory and navigation. These electrodes are giving scientists the ability to “read” the processes involved in memory formation and retrieval, and are even offering insights into when a volunteer is about to make an error in recall.

“We still have a lot to learn about how the human brain encodes declarative memory,” Sanchez said, “but these early experiments are clarifying issues such as these and suggest there is great potential to help people with certain kinds of memory deficits.”

DARPA says the technologies being developed in the Revolutionizing Prosthetics and Restoring Active Memory programs hold great potential for improving brain function.

“As the technology of these fully implantable devices improves, and as we learn more about how to stimulate the brain ever more precisely to achieve the most therapeutic effects, I believe we are going to gain a critical capacity to help our wounded warriors and others who today suffer from intractable neurological problems,” Sanchez said.

Oldest Known Veteran, 110, Blazed Path for Blacks Women

We are publishing this article in honor of the country’s oldest known veteran, Emma Didlake who died August 18, 2015 just one month after being honored by President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. she was 110 years old.

Emma Didlake liked to say she always was one for getting into something, but she had no idea of what a big deal it was when she joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1943.

A lot of Americans didn’t like the idea of women stepping into roles that had been reserved for men, especially if those jobs took them to war. But then there was the fact that she was black in a segregated society. We appreciate how she opened doors for women. One of her statements “I didn’t know I was breaking barriers,” she turned 110 on March 13, and received more than 250 birthday cards.” She told all that she enjoyed what she did in the military.

She’s broke a big barrier that being the nation’s oldest known veteran.

She was able before her death to visit with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in Washington and had a tour of the monuments. She was so grateful for the visit, “You should see her face,” said granddaughter, Marilyn Horne, 62, of Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb. “She is smiling from one ear to the other.”

Also, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were both at the White House to meet other Veterans like Lucy Coffey, who everyone had believed was the nation’s second-oldest veteran behind a fellow Texan, Richard Overton, and the oldest woman. Coffey, 108, has also died in San Antonio and was given a fond farewell here with military honors. Bexar County Judge Nelson

Wolff was on hand. Vice President Biden and his wife, Jill, sent a flower arrangement with a handwritten note. And Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, entered a tribute into the congressional record. “It was a beautiful service,” Bexar County Veterans Service Officer Queta Marquez said.

On that day Didlake was surprised to learn she was the nation’s oldest veteran, just ahead of Phyllis Josephine Thompson, an Army nurse who the Buffalo News said turned 109. Overton, a Bastrop County native, was born three days before Coffey in May 1906 and until now had been credited with being the oldest veteran in the nation.

Didlake, a native of Greene County, Alabama, and her family moved to Kentucky. She met her husband, Oscar, and they had five children. They lived in Lynch, where he worked in coal mines and she decided to join the WACs -- without asking for her husband’s opinion or permission, not that it mattered. “There wasn’t no argument or anything like that, it was no trouble. I just did it,” she said, adding that she joined because “I wanted to do different things.” Unlike Coffey, who traveled to the Pacific and spent a decade in Japan, Didlake stuck close to home, working as a driver, often carrying a Bible with her. Records show that she served about seven months and received an honorable discharge. After the war, she joined the Detroit chapter of the NAACP, selling dinner tickets for the group’s annual fund raising event. She was later honored by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for her role with the Detroit chapter, where she is the longest-serving member.

Didlake credits her long life of good health to living in moderation and not smoking, but there’s also a ritual. Each evening, Didlake would soaks nine golden raisins in a pint of vodka and lets them sit overnight. She would eat them the next afternoon. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

understanding Wireless

My name is Alister Shelverton, I’m 17 years old and currently attending Cajon High School. All my life I’ve been described as a fighter. My friends and family say I have been a fighter both physically and mentally. When I was young, I had learned that life would not always be fair and I would struggle at times. A prime example I witnessed was that sometimes other people are born better off than others, whether it be in the form of wealth, family, or education. As I was growing up I tended to stray away from the crowd and in turn, was bullied by others for drifting away from the socially normal people. I did not find entertainment or solace in being with others due to the fact that I found it hard to relate or get along with other kids. I had been ridiculed and taunted much throughout my childhood. Though at times it had sparked fights between those who chose to step up, I never regret standing my ground against those who try to put me down. Not only have I been fighting with other kids; I have been fighting with my internal struggles to keep my morals and ignore others who decide to scoff at me for who I am. I have learned to fend for myself when a threat approaches and to push on through the rough points in life when a test of my patience and will has presented itself.

I have been through many points in life that have tested my discipline to stay true to myself. As of now my current struggles are school and (unfortunately) family.

My goals for the next year and such are to graduate high school and move to Washington State with a friend of mine named Jon. There, we’ll find jobs and support each other through whatever occupations we find and continue to go from there. I hope to go to college to become a psychologist and be able to help people in need of someone to talk to. I feel I have what it takes to help people with their struggles both internally and externally. Everyone has problems and I hope to be able to assist those who have nowhere else to turn for advice or a listening ear. College is not the only goal I hope to

achieve. Both Jon and me have a passion for music that we share. We have a dream of starting a band together a writing music. Although it may not pay out and we may not become famous, what matters is that we’ve found something in our spare time to do and enjoy. We’ll do whatever it takes to get ourselves as known as possible. I’m honestly excited to see what life holds for me in the future and to see what comes from my current dreams.

Once I am established and have achieved my goals, I want to start a campaign for teaching kids to stand up for themselves and to stop bullying amongst kids. Bullying is a serious issue and though it will never go away, we should teach our kids and peers to stand up to it and do what it takes to reduce it. One major issue of bullying is no one helping when a child is in need even if they reach out for help. I would like to help kids learn that if no one is willing to help then you should take matters into your own hands.

Though it’s unfortunate, some kids only respect you or leave you alone after you prove you can beat them at their own game. I do not believe in kids going out of their way to beat up and bully other kids, but if someone steps up to and for no reason bullies you relentlessly without hesitation, (even after looking and asking for help) then you should take it into your hands to make sure it stops happening. I just wish to help bring down suicide rates and help others see there’s a way to make bullying stop. There are way too many innocent youths killing themselves and being pushed to the limit because of others.

I hope to one day make kids realize that there’s no reason to bully and if there are issues a bully has to drive them to do such a thing, then we need to help them reach out and ask to help.

All in all, I have goals I would like to achieve and I have my means of achieving them. I have dreams I want to pursue and careers and jobs I hope to have in the future.

It’s been a long journey so far with hardship and struggle, but I feel if I push through everything I’ve dealt with will all be worth it.

Imagine for a moment if all the wireless connections in the world were instantly replaced by cables. You’d have cables stretching through the air from every radio in every home hundreds of miles back to the transmitters. Radio-controlled cars would disappear too, replaced by yet more cables. You couldn’t step out of the door without tripping over cables. You couldn’t fly a plane through the sky without getting tangled up.

If you peered through your window, you’d see nothing at all but a cats-cradle of wires.

That, then, is the brilliance of wireless: it does away with all those cables, leaving our lives simple.

Wireless started out as a way of sending audio programs through the air. Pretty soon we started calling it radio and, when pictures were added to the signal, TV was born. The word “wireless” had become pretty old-fashioned by the mid-20th century, but over the last few years it’s made a comeback. Now it’s hip to be wireless once again thanks to the Internet. By 2007, approximately half of all the world’s Internet users were expected to be using some kind of wireless access—many of them in developing countries where traditional wired forms of access, based on telephone networks, are not available. Wireless Internet, commonly used in systems called Wi-Fi®, WAP, and I Mode, has made the Internet more convenient than ever before. But what makes it different from ordinary Internet access?

If your laptop doesn’t have a built-in Wi-Fi card, you can plug in a PCMCIA adapter card. They’re relatively inexpensive, especially if you get them on eBay. But beware: older PCMCIA cards may not support newer forms of wireless security such as WPA.

A wireless router is simply a router that connects to your computer using radio waves instead of cables. It contains a very low-power radio transmitter and receiver, with a maximum range of about 90 meters or 300 ft. The router can send and receive Internet data to any computer in your home that is also equipped with wireless access.

Most new laptops come with wireless cards built in. For older laptops, you can usually plug a wireless adapter card into the PCMCIA or USB socket. In effect, the router becomes an informal access point for the Internet, creating an invisible “cloud” of wireless connectivity all around it, known as a hotspot. Any computer inside this cloud can connect into the network, forming a wireless LAN. Just as computers connected to a wired LAN use Ethernet, machines on a wireless LAN use the wireless equivalent, which is called Wi-Fi (or, more technically, IEEE 802.11). Wireless Internet is improving all the time, so better forms of Wi-Fi are constantly evolving. You may see wireless equipment marked 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n: these are all broadly compatible variants of 802.11, with 802.11g and 802.11a somewhat faster than 802.11b. The latest standard, 802.11n, will be even faster, but is currently still in development.

Wi-Fi is where the expression Wi-Fi hotspot comes from. A Wi-Fi hotspot is simply a public place where you can connect your computer wirelessly to the Internet.

The hotspots you find in airports, coffee bars, bookshops, and college campuses use one or more wireless routers to create wireless Net access over a large area. Wi-Fi hotspots are now popping up all over the world. By 2007, there were estimated to be around 180,000 in the United States alone. As of October 2012, the JWire directory was listing over 793,049 hotspots in 145 countries worldwide.
