Read this in creditable book written by Jason K. Scott, he writes his story. Jason was the speaker and rapper at our First Annual Loving On Our Youth Family Explosion Day, October 8, 2016. Every child was quiet and engaged totally into what Jason was telling them about the mistakes he made when he was a teenager. Jason’s hope is to reach as many of the young people before they too find themselves in making mistakes and similar choices.

Jason also is a rapper and the lyrics to Jason’s rap was powerful, the truth, telling the story of his experiences and the consequences of those choices. Well, here we are again in the month of November and one would think my article for the month would be all about Turkeys and dressing and all that goes alone with Thanksgiving. Invitations to family and friends and just relaxing after eating and enjoying each other. Well, my article for this month is to give our readers a re-cap of the First Annual Loving On Our Youth Family Explosion Day that took place October 8th at the Adams Motorsports Park in the city of Riverside.

I must say it was a lot of work but we pulled it off, it was a GREAT Day! Loving On Our Youth Outreach, Yes We Can Newspaper and Adams Motorsports Park were the sponsors of this event. Timel Adams, the president of Adams Motorsports Park, Riverside partnered with us because she also believes in our youth.

We greeted approximately 225 kids, youth and their families. The purpose that day was to convince the children and the Millennial Generation how much we love and care about them and that they were the future leaders of tomorrow.

It was a wonderful fun filled day, just look at their faces nothing but excitement, smiles and laughter and interacting with each other. The day was filled with Stephanie Martin-Velez singing God Bless America, Bongo were played by Gary Lett and Company their beats were the sound of love and unity amongst our youth. Sean Jones, SLJ Pro Audio Services provided great music through-out the day. The day was filled with young people playing games, winning free prizes; laugher and having fun. Dancers from B.J.’s The Garage Dance; Edwin Johnson with C.H.O.R.D Enrichment Youth Program combined with the Boys and Girls Club of San Bernardino Club all showed up and showed out, singing, dancing. During the day I asked all the youth present to get on the stage and they all song with the song Happy by Pharrell Williams, the little one played the flute.

Terrance Stone, with Young Visionaries, San Bernardino was my co-host and he took over and helped to make it happen. We had a Big Fashion Show and it was hosted by none other than Cizzie C. “The Prince Of Clean Comedy” and Brittney Walker, President of SJFP Scholarship Fund together they took the stage and showcased the clothing that each child modeled. To top the fashion show off whatever clothing the child modeled it was given to them as a gift of Love. There were winners of bicycles as well as gifts for the pie eating contest.

Loving On Our Youth Outreach would like all to know that we are very serious about helping the Millennial Generation. Our message to them is that they will be the ones running this great country, the United States of America and they have what it takes to do the job in UNITY. THE WORD

Sam Walter Foss, Poet

I went to an event and this poem was read, it inspired me to share it with our readers. I hope it will touch your heart as it did mine. A little about the special poet, Sam Walter Foss. He was born June 19, 1858, and he died February 26, 1911, at age 52. Most of his collections of verse were published in the 1890’s. So Foss was in a situation similar to ours, in the transition from one century to another. We think of our century as a time of massive wars and of technological creation.

We face the new century

hoping we can do better next time around.

But the nineteenth century was also a time of wars around the globe and especially of the American Civil War, which took the lives of tens of thousands of American men. One of Foss’s books was entitled Songs of War and Peace, published in 1899.

However, he too urged the theme of optimism. The last newspaper column he wrote, while in hospital awaiting an operation that would fail to save his life, was on “Optimism.” A boisterous faith in humanity characterized his poetry, even though he had a sharp eye for human foibles and failings.

THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD He was a friend to man, and he lived. In a house by the side of the road -- Homer There are hermit souls that live withdrawn. In the place of their self-content; There are souls like stars, that dwell apart, In a fellowless firmament; There are pioneer souls that blaze their paths. Where highways never ran -But let me live by the side of the road. And be a friend to man.

Let me live in a house by the side of the road, Where the race of men go by -The men who are good and the men who are bad, As good and as bad as I. I would not sit in the scorner’s seat, or hurl the cynic’s ban -Let me live in a house by the side of the road, And be a friend to man.

I see from my house by the side of the road, By the side of the highway of life, The men who press with the ardor of hope, The men who are faint with the strife.

God’s Wings....

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree.

Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.

When the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast....because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live. ‘He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.’ ~ Psalm 91:4

In this year of unprecedented politics, there are those who would tell me how I should think and feel as an AfricanAmerican. I ask, if the African-American experience is so bad, what have you personally done to alleviate the situation?

What is your personal experience with the African-American community? I have a few personal experiences I would share.

President Clinton appointed Rodney Slater U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Rodney is an AfricanAmerican married to the daughter of my schoolmate, Henry Wilkins III, who attended all-Black Merrill High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Hillary Clinton worked with the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) which was founded by African-American Marion Wright Edelman in 1973. CDF is the leading nonprofit advocacy organization in the United States for children’s rights. A leading coalition is the Black Community Crusade for Children.

On a visit to Little Rock, Arkansas, shortly after Bill Clinton was elected president, I personally met with key administrators of his transition team decision-makers, which were African-American. AfricanAmericans have been employed in his administrations throughout Bill Clinton’s political career.

In 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Hillary Clinton worked with the African-American student organization at Wellesley College to organize a two day strike.

But it’s Also Really Hard Work

Although the tools and technology available nowadays for designing, printing and shipping your own t-shirts makes getting going extremely simple, the difficult part is building a brand to stand out from the competition.
