The Littlest Things Will Count

With so many holidays coming around it really makes you stop and think about those who will not be home to celebrate any holidays with their loved ones. I started doing research on care packages and how to send then. Now it’s important that due to restrictions care packages marked “To any soldier” will not be sent. Most postal services send the care packages for free all you have to do is buy the box. Also, you need to research about what you can and cannot send. The website I found is <www.anysoldier. com>. Now the thing that I personally like about this website is the fact that they have a list of soldiers you can send care packages to as well as what they have requested. There are names from the Army, Marines, Navy, and the Coast Guard. Once on the website pick the section “where to send” and a list of soldiers will appear.

You will be surprised that the things that are being requested are really simple and when you think about it you will realize that you have taken the simple things for granted. The simplest things will help their day go by faster and brings a smile on their

faces knowing that someone thought about them and cared enough about them to do this. To me personally it is the least we can do for them as a way of saying thank you for serving our country and protecting us as well as your loved ones.

It is very important that you read about what you can and cannot send. Follow the instructions when it comes to making the care packages. Especially making sure that when you make one make sure that it is packed tightly, that way the object cannot move around and get damaged. It is also advises that you do not start a care package drive until you yourself have sent a care package. Now, in my opinion I think care packages should be sent year around and not only on holidays. If you are on a budget but really want to send a care package just gradually save up, i.e. example you bought too many towels and soups, put some of that aside and whenever you buy too much of something just add that in the box until the box is full and nicely packed. states please do not print out the list of soldiers names due to the fact that names change on the list as well as the places where the soldiers are at, also, according to the website it is also illegal as well. Please always keep soldiers on your mind not only at holidays but year around. The soldiers are very brave as well as compared for what they do for our country so we can be safe. You will be surprised about the list. I personally was taken back when some of the things requested were footballs, baseballs etc. Also most of what is listed you can get at the Dollar Tree Store. To them the littlest things count. have time to get packages to them before Christmas.

This is about SUPPORT, not just STUFF! A LETTER, from you, your children, the kids at church or school, is THE BEST THING to send. A show of personal support is far better than spending a bunch of money that you don’t have. The letter in the box IS more important than the box itself.

G.O.A.L – MEANING GO-OUT-AND-LIVE!

From Dwayne, Even though I live entirely in the now, I am always looking forward to and planning for future NOWS! January marks the beginning of a new calendar year for 2016, but I believe that each day that we awake is an opportunity to begin a new life. Before I encourage people to make goals I generally challenge them to begin with a Declaration of Personal Responsibility - I currently possess everything I have truly wanted and deserved.

This is based on what I have given to society to this point: My relationships; my health; my possessions; my savings; my lifestyle are an exact mirror of me; my efforts and my contributions to society. What I have given I have received. If I am unhappy with what I have received it is because, as of this date, I have not paid the required price. (Wow! The life you have was given to you by you.) I have lingered too long in the quibbling stage. I fully understand that time has become a burden to me only when it is empty. The past is mine, and at this very moment, I am purchasing another 24 hours of it.

The future changes quickly into the past at the control point called the present moment. (NOW) I not only live at this point, but have full responsibility for the highest and best use of the irreplaceable now. (NOW is the best and only time to do anything.)

I accept full responsibility for both the successes and failures in my life. If I am not what I desire to be at this point, what I am is my compromise, I choose no longer to compromise with my undeveloped potential. I am the sum total of my choices I have made, and I continue to choose daily. What I now put under close scrutiny is the value of the upcoming choice. Therein lies the quality of my future lifestyle. (What choice will I make?)

Will my future belong to the ‘old me’ or the ‘new me’? That answer will depend on my attitude towards personal growth at this very moment. What time that is left is all that counts and this remaining time is my responsibility. With a new found maturity I accept full responsibility for how great I become at that which is most important to me.

The dictionary defines the word “Goal” as “the end toward which effort or ambition is directed, aim, purpose.” Goals are important because they establish purpose and direction for your life and it has been proven statistically that those who have written goals that they “act on” are more successful that those who do not have written goals. The next 3 steps before making your goals list are; 1. Assessment- How things actually are now. (Requires being totally honest and truthful with yourself.) 2. Vision- How you want

things to be. (What do you see?) 3. Master Dream List- What it is you want? (Lifestyle, Career/Education, Financial, Physical/Health, Mental, Family/Friends, Spiritual.)

It is important to develop a daily action plan for achieving your goals. This way you can chart your success week by week to make sure that you are on track or make adjustments as you proceed. Having the best plans in the world will mean nothing if you do not prepare yourself mentally to execute them. You must have a burning desire to accomplish your goals. They should be the first thing you think about when you awake and the last thing you think about before you go to sleep. You must be determined to face any obstacles, criticizing or any circumstances that may come your way. The price for success must be paid in full in advance and there are no short cuts. However, one of the most important things you must possess is discipline. It will take discipline to develop the right habits to help you achieve your goals. For those of us who are incarcerated I always encourage making the word G.O.A.L. an acronym for Go Out And Live! Make this year of 2016 the very best year ever!

Yes We Can Newspaper would like to introduce to our readers a series of articles that will be written by Wesley 2 Scoop Berry, a star of one of television’s popular shows now running and also available on you-tube. “American Gladiators” this was one of my favorite shows in which I watched faithfully. 2 Scoop has the necessary experiences and is reaching out to our youth and young people about bullying. His engagement within the schools, different venues and YouTube and on-line is far reaching. “A WAY OUT” emphasizing just a few of the areas: Creating Goals (Achievable); Selecting Your Support System; Transforming Your Thoughts! Healthy Diet! And Exercise. 2 Scoop is presenting and taking the time to personally speak to our youth and young people, boys and girls alike. He comes to them by way of Mental Toughness.

“This documentary I will provide a real uncut insight to the effects and adverse effects that comes with being a bully and being the receiver of bullying, via internet or school. Children are allowing themselves to be bullied on the internet. We can teach our youth the techniques they need to survive.

What we’re offering is a firsthand look inside the minds of both the receiver and givers of such male violent and or female actions.

The psychological planning of vengeance on behalf of the receiver and the domino effects that it has on the families and community at large will cause conscience thought.

We are against bullying and we hope that our Mental Toughness 101 will help others seek help before it’s too late. Without this help our youth is headed for more unnecessary injurers and possible jail time.

Should a bully not take heed, the prison or/and society are inner connected.

What the media fails to report, likewise the same should you arrive in prison, because ones actions that causes a teen to take their life (suicide) as a result to bullying. With our youth this may happen inside or outside of prison. There is a way out for our youth and that is by getting them correct information and support. I am here for our youth, I am 2 Scoops and I will teach you Mental Toughness.”

What an opportunity to write this article to our readers this month.

This being October 24th as I write this article, I want to reflect back on what happened to me the day before.

I woke up preparing myself to attend the home going service of one of my friends, former Mayor Robert (Bob) Bartlett of the beautiful city of Monrovia. The service was held at the United Methodist Church and it was packed with family members, dignitaries and friends. Bob’s life was filled with successes as it related to the city of Monrovia, from City Councilman to being the first African American Mayor elected by the city. He served as Mayor from 1988 to 2001. Bob and his team were credited with revitalizing the downtown and leading the city to an economic turnaround. Bob was accredited for many other advancement while being Mayor of Monrovia.

Well, upon me leaving the service headed back home my car shut-off at a busy street in the city of Azusa. I found myself sitting at a red light in the middle lane and you guessed it, I panicked, I turned the key and my car started back up driving to another red light and it stopped on me again, oh my God did I get crazy panicked this time so I pulled over called and was towed back to the dealer that I purchased my car from three years ago. They were so attentive to me, telling me they would take care of everything. I know many of them personally and I just love the way they handled me in getting me calmed down. They gave me a 2016 loaner car and told me not to worry they would call me when my car would be ready.

Now, I would like to back track a little and tell you my experience with the tow truck driver. We had quite a distance to travel before reaching the car dealership where I purchased my car from. I enjoyed the ride and he and I had great conversations, one of which compelled me to write this article. He was telling me how it hurts him when fathers/mothers that are no longer in the home with their child/children due to a divorce or separation do not want to pay child support to their own child/children. He also had several friends that felt that their (Ex) was benefiting and they didn’t want the (Ex) to benefit when they paid the child support money. Well, we both feel why would a person think that way, don’t these people know that their (Ex) is keeping the household running to help their child/children at the end of the day? It is ridiculous to think that the money is not helping their child/children. I hope this article will help some fathers or mothers who have a problem with paying child support to their own child/children.

Please understand that when there is a separation or divorce the household has lost one income and in order to survive and give your child/children a good and nature life they need your monies to make it, remember they are your child/children.

The child is still in need of the same things as when both parents would be in the home.

I also want to add that children want and need both of their parent to love, support and care for them. When your child grows-up they will remember that you were there for them.

THE WORD Heaven

I was shocked, confused, bewildered as I entered Heaven’s door, not by the beauty of it all, by the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven who made me sputter and gasp-- the thieves, the liars, the sinners, the alcoholics, the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade who swiped my lunch money twice. Next to him was my old neighbor who never said anything nice. Herb, who I always thought was rotting away in hell,was sitting pretty on cloud nine, looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, “What’s the deal? I would love to hear your take. How’d all these sinners get up here?

God must’ve made a mistake.

And why’s everyone so quiet, so somber? Give me a clue.”

It’s not what you say…Psychologists have shown it takes between 90 seconds and 4 minutes to decide if you fancy someone. Research has shown this has little to do with what is said, rather 55% is through body language; 38% is the tone and speed of their voice and only 7% is through what they say.

The 3 stages of love, Helen Fisher of Rutgers University in the States has proposed 3 stages of love – lust, attraction and attachment. Each stage might be driven by different hormones and chemicals. Stage 1. Lust, this is the first stage of love and is driven by hormones testosterone and estrogen in both men and women. Stage 2. Attraction, This is the amazing time when you are truly love-struck and can think of little else. Scientists think that three main neurotransmitters are involved in this state; adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin. Adrenaline, the initial stages of falling for someone activates your stress response, increasing your blood levels of adrenalin and cortisol. This has the charming effect that when you unexpectedly bump into your new love, you start to sweat, your heart races and your mouth goes dry.

The Science of Love It is the desire of not only Christian but other single men and women to find their mate, fall in love, marry be equally yoked and live happier forever after. Love is the one thing that most individual need and want. We have placed this article in hope that it will be something that one can know a little more and something to think about when seeking for their mate.

When do you know if you fancy someone? What does love do to your brain chemicals, and is falling in love just nature’s way to keep our species alive?

We call it love. It feels like love. But the most exhilarating of all human emotions is probable nature’s beautiful way of keeping the human species alive and reproducing.

Can God Use You? The next time you feel like God can’t use you just remember. Dopamine, Helen Fisher asked newly “love struck” couples to have their brains examined and discovered they have high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This chemical stimulates “desire and reward: by triggering an intense rush of pleasure. It has the same effect on the brain as taking cocaine! Fisher suggests “couples often show the signs of surging dopamine: increased energy, less need for sleep or food, focused attention and exquisite delight in smallest details of this novel relationship”. Serotonin, one of love’s most important chemicals that may explain why when you’re falling in love, your new lover keeps popping into your thoughts.

Love needs to be blind newly smitten lovers often idealize their partner, magnifying their virtues and explaining away their flaws says Ellen Bersscheid, a leading researcher on the psychology of love.

New couples also exalt the relationship itself. “It’s very common to think they have a relationship that’s closer and more special than anyone else’s”. Psychologists think we need this rose-tinted view. It makes us want to stay together to enter the next stage of love – attachment. Stage 3 – Attachment is the bond that keeps couples together lone enough for them to have and raise children. Scientists think there might be two major hormones involved in this feeling of attachment; oxytocin and vasopressin.

Finally….how to fall in love, Find a complete stranger, reveal to each other intimate details about your lives for half an hour and then, stare deeply into each other’s eyes without talking for four minutes. York psychologist, Profess Arthur Arun, has been studying why people fall in love. He asked his subjects to carry out the above teps and found that many of his couples felt deeply attracted after the 34 minute experiment. Two of his subjects later got married.

Frankie Robinson “Sugar Chile”

The history of 20th century entertainment has been littered with the often ultimately tragic stories of its child prodigies. One such was that tiny bundle of Detroit dynamite, “Sugar Chile” Robinson. Frankie Robinson born in Detroit on 28th December 1935, the youngest of seven children. While yet a toddler “Sugar Chile” began pounding on the piano left at his house by an aunt - at the age of two and by the following year was allegedly able to copy any music he heard on the radio. He took a liking for sugar cubes, which his mother gave him to mollify him when he was upset, and he became her little “Sugar Chile”.

“Sugar Chile was just able to walk when he started thumpin’ the piano. When he was about two, a friend of mine came over one evening gave him a nickel and doggone it if that kid didn’t thump out `Tuxedo Junction’…”

In the early 1940s, Sugar Chile won the under 18s talent show at Detroit’s Paradise Theatre, and his fame began to spread. Still only six years old he played guest spots for several Orchestra. His parent were asked to take the child on tours to play with bands, but the US Child Labor Laws prevented it. His career was rocketing and MGM tried to persuade his father, Clarence, to countersign another contract for seven years, but Clarence his father refused to tie his son to such a long sentence.

In March 1946 Sugar Chile performed at a starstudded bill in Washington DC for President Truman, contributing four full numbers including his specialty “Caldonia” during which he shouted out, “How’m I Doin’, Mr President?” which became something of a catchphrase. He headlined and worked with Sammy Davis Jr. and Dorothy Dandridge. He began smashing box office records wherever he appeared.

Also in 1947 his success was celebrated with the filming of a seven-minute film featurette simply entitled Frankie “Sugar Chile” Robinson; a fine showcase for his

talents, but still no contract resulted from the US recording industry.

With his special dispensation, in July 1949, he made his first records for the Capitol label in Los Angeles. Robinson took his first two releases into the Billboard R&B chart in late 1949; “Numbers Boogie” made it to number four, while “Caldonia (What Makes Your Big Head So Hard?)” only reached number 14.

Robinson toured with Count Basie in 1950 and made a celebrated musical short with the Basie Sextet and Billie Holiday in Hollywood in September to showcase his hits. The Christmas season of 1950 witnessed Sugar Chile’s first European release and “Christmas Boogie” c/w “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” sold well enough to spark a two-month tour of the UK in the summer of 1951, including rave reviews for his spot at the London Palladium, guest spots on BBC TV and a Melody Maker interview. He was a big hit on US radio and TV all through 1951 and was asked to return to Britain for the summer season of 1952, but it was the beginning of the end.

He was growing up and was at that awkward age, as a teenager, when his novelty effect had worn off, but he was still too young to be seriously considered a jazz musician. He begged his father to allow him to stop the touring and go to school. All during that time he had a tutor and he studied hard. He wanted to go to school his quotes “I want some school background in me” He asked his Dad if he could stop and go to school because he honestly wanted a college diploma. He was ahead of his age group in school. He graduated from Northern High School at age 15 and most of his friends were seventeen or eighteen when they graduated. He graduated from Olivet College in Michigan around 1960 with a degree in

Keeping the Laundry Room Safe

This is a true story. My employer’s family member woke up one day and smelled something burning.

He went looking throughout the whole house trying to find the source, finally he went into the laundry room and discovered it was his dryer. He immediately unplugged everything and took the back off of the dryer. Inside he found it covered with lint and it was smoldering. He put out the smoldering that was near turning into a fire and vacuumed out all of the burnt lint that built up inside of his dryer. He was so startled because many times he would go to sleep and the dryer would be still drying the clothes. He has a family of six children and his wife. He would clean the lint trap, but evidently some lint was failing when he would take the tray out and over a period of time it built up. Washing clothes for a family of eight can make a lot of lint. If he hadn’t had found the source of the smoke it would of turned into a full-blown fire, it would have been a horrible tragedy.

Upon hearing this story I decided to look online to see what the statistics were and they were staggering.

If you do not empty your lint trap it can affect your dryer.

1. Lint causes your dryers motor to work harder due to the fact that lint blocks circulation and cannot cool efficiently.

Nothing more was heard of “Sugar Chile” for many years and the worst was feared, until July 2002 when the 63 year old former child star made a surprise appearance at a special concert celebrating the pre-Motown legends of Detroit music. In 2007 for the first time in fifty-five years, he was persuaded out of retirement to make the journey across the Atlantic to perform once again for his European fans at the “Rhythm Riot” weekender, where he delighted a generation of rock `n’ roll fans who had spent the last thirty years dancing to his popular club favorites such as “Numbers Boogie”, “Whop Whop” and “Go Boy Go”.

If the dryer is clogged then the dryer overheats and shuts down. It is always a great idea to have your dryer inspected at least once a year

to reduce the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Another important thing is to make sure your vent hose is in good shape.

If you have the white plastic vent hose, replace it now! It is not safe and has been outlawed. Use the aluminum type vent hose and make sure the length is as short as possible and not crushed or kinked. It’s very important that the vent line (from the wall behind the dryer to the outside flap) is not restricted or clogged up with lint. This greatly increases your chance of a dryer fire. If you are unable to clean out this line yourself, call a professional. Many Chimney Sweep companies offer this service.

In the event that your dryer does have a lint fire, don’t give it more fuel to destroy your home. Make sure there are no articles of clothing, boxes, cleaning supplies, or anything else behind or around the dryer. You should also keep things off the top of the dryer. Always empty your lint trap every time you use your dryer. It may seem like a bit of inconvenience or even if you only see a little bit of lint on the lint trap still clean it. By doing this it will greatly reduce the risk of a dryer fire which will probably spread to the rest of your house. I hope this research about dryers will help someone unaware of this information.

The Road to Video Game Design

In order to be a video game designer, you have to have a good mix of traditional art skills and modern based art skills the balance of which will depend on the eventual specialization you go for. Within the title “games artist” are many sub-categories of artist including animators, texture artists, character modelers, object modelers, concept artists, etc. While it’s ok for now to look at your target career simply as a games artist or game designer, the eventual specialization you do will have an impact on what you should be learning in the meantime, so you should start out by sampling everything and then concentrating on the bit/bits that you enjoy doing the most. For example, a concept artist will do purely traditional art, so they won’t need to know much at all about computer based art.

So once you’ve got in mind what you need to be learning you need to go about doing it. Unfortunately with all art the only way you’re going to get better at it is through practice. Some people maintain that people that are good at art are “naturally artistic”, like artistic ability is somehow genetic, but ask any good artist how they got good and they’ll tell you how they got where they are by practicing their butts off.

Traditional art wise you should be drawing at least one thing every day.

Whether it’s a cartoon or a still life or whatever, it doesn’t matter, but making sure you draw at least one thing a day will improve your drawing dramatically. Doing an art night class would help a lot too. Considering this is for games, you need to be drawing lots of people, so learning to draw anatomy will be greatly beneficial too. One thing I would suggest is steering clear of anime.

Looking at the portfolio work of other aspiring games artists just goes to show where this generation’s art influences are coming from, and learning the anime style won’t help you stand out from the crowd at all when it comes to getting a job.

For 3D you should worry less about learning a wide variety of programs and more about learning the general concepts of modeling.

All the 3D packages work differently but the core concepts are all the same, so it’s best to choose one program and get to the point where you can be creative within that, than trying to learn all the different programs at once. There are tons of books now on each package, or they typically have decent tutorials in the help files. As for which program you should go for, that used to be simple, but it’s getting a trickier choice by the day. It used to be that everyone used 3D Studio Max, because it was powerful, reasonably easy to use (as 3D programs go), was well suited to games, and yet it didn’t cost the earth. Recently however Discreet who make 3D Studio Max have started aiming their product at the movie industry, while Alias|Wavefrontthat make Maya and Avid that make Softimage have recently switched their focus from the movie industry to the games industry. If it was me personally I’d still recommend you start by learning 3D Studio Max.

For 2D computer based work, such as textures, you should be learning Photoshop. Photoshop is like the Mack daddy of industry standard 2D art, and absolutely everyone uses it. Again, it’s best to just get a book on it.

Finding the Perfect Dog for Your Family

When picking a dog for your family it is always important to do research of the type of dog you’re interested in and research the dog’s personality as well as compatibility with children, energy level, working vs non-working breeds, size, grooming care among other things. When selecting a dog the age plays a large part. If there are young toddlers in the house you may be better suited to a grown dog that will not teethe on your kids or their toys. This is only a suggestion, I personally prefer a puppy that can grow alongside my kid(s). If you’re worried about the puppy’s behavior you can always do obedience school. Another important factor in selecting a new dog is coat length. Some family members may be particularly sensitive to certain varieties of fur. Hair shedding is not always a matter of allergies it can also be a matter of housekeeping.

In my opinion a very important factor for families is the dog’s activity level.

If you’re more of a homebody then you may want a calm dog, but if you have an active life then you may want to lean more towards a dog with high energy.

Families who live in an apartment are not well suited to dogs with high energy levels.

SIDS Warnings

SIDS is very real. One night after my daughter was born I suddenly woke up for no reason at all. I immediately looked at my daughter and noticed she wasn’t breathing. I sat upright and picked her up and she started breathing again. Now some of you will probably just say oh well it was probably nothing, but something woke me up my mother’s intuition kicked in. Ever since then I have been wondering if it could have almost been SIDS.

SIDS is also known as sudden infant death syndrome and can affect infants 1 month to 1 years old. It claims the lives of about 3,500 babies each year in the United States. Most SIDS are associated with sleep. Most SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 months of age and increases during cold weather. Boys fall victim to SIDS more than girls. The potential risk factors are smoking, drinking, or drug use during pregnancy. Poor prenatal care, premature birth weight, tobacco exposure following birth and overheating from excessive sleepwear and bedding.

Also, by babies sleeping on their backs can greatly reduce it even though most parents want to put their babies to sleep on their stomachs to avoid a flat head or invade the baby chokes on spit up. It is a bad idea due to the fact that if put to sleep on their stomach babies can still put their face fully down on their crib mattress and suffocate. Stomach sleeping might contribute to SIDS which led the American Academy of Pediatrics to recommend infants younger than 1 year of age to be put to sleep on their backs. Since the recommendation has been made SIDS has dropped by more than 50%.

Some ways to reduce the risk of SIDS is to put the baby to sleep on their backs.

The baby can go to sleep with a pacifier in their mouth. One can breastfeed if possible, studies show that it helps reduce the risk. Make sure your baby has regular checkups and do not expose your baby to secondhand smoke.

Now this article is not meant to scare, worry or stress you but to make you aware. The CDC is in collaboration with the National Institutions of Health in its Safe to Sleep Campaign. Safe to Sleep has an outreach and educational activities aimed at

Mastiffs can be graceful and gentle with children but they do not realize how big they are and can easily knock kids down. A good place to look for a dog are the animal shelters, at the shelters they allow you to interact with the animal and if you already have a dog it will also let you see how well your dog and the potentially new dog will interact with each other as well as how the dog will interact with your family. You don’t necessarily have to go to the shelters for your new dog but it is always a good place to look first before looking elsewhere.

Always research and ask questions about whatever breed of dog you’re interested in. Ask as many questions as you feel comfortable with, I cannot stress that enough. I wouldn’t want you to not ask enough questions and then go get a dog and realize that the dog is not a good fit for your family. Well, good luck and I hope you find the perfect dog.

There are also support groups online if you’re not comfortable with a face to face group.
