MARY KELLY-MOHR My name is Mary Kelly-Mohr. I’m the one in the photo with my granddaughter. Many thanks to Yes We Can Newspaper for providing this platform to share my story and information about The Hero’s Warehouse. As a child I lived in a 3-bedroom house in a middle-class neighborhood in San Diego. My Dad was a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and he “drove a destroyer.” He would go out to sea for 6 months at a time. My Dad was a “lifer.” He served 26 years in the Navy. He served in three wars and received 13 medals. Sunday mornings he would stand at the dresser in his bedroom, in his church clothes, counting out our weekly allowances and putting them in individual rows. There were 8 children in our family. I believe when I was in the 5th grade I would receive 40 cents. I would be allowed to keep the 25 cents and 15 cents was to be put in the collection basket at church. We all received allowance for the weekly chores we did. And See Mohr • page 2

MS. RUTH W. JONES This story is about one lovely lady, Ms. Ruth W. Jones now 98 years old soon to turn 99 years old on April 19th of this year. Just about every Sunday morning around 10:30am many of the members at church see Ms. Jones pulling up the parking lot, driving and parking her new Lincoln SUV for service at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Pomona. She is so cute as the driver and her niece Mary Edna as the passenger. She then gets out of the vehicle and I see her making her way inside church and sitting on the third pew on the right hand side with her niece sitting by her side. Ms. Ruth W. Jones, was born April 19, 1916, in Emerson, Arkansas. Her mother Mary and father, Reverend Nathan Williams had four children. Ms. Ruth’s mother in a previous marriage See Jones • page 6
MONYETTA S. SHAW
By: Ethel Martin-Miller
Sitting down interviewing Ms. Monyetta S. Shaw, who is one of five beautiful ladies appearing in the Popular Reality Show Atlanta Exes, was pretty cool. I met up with Monyetta at her Uncle’s restaurant, J & J BBQ in the city of Pomona. Joe Draper, owner and chef, had a surprise upon her arrival by giving a small private family luncheon on a Tuesday, a day in which the restaurant is normally closed. He cooked up a feast for the family members to just come by and relax, eat and have a chance to catch up. Monyetta arrived with her two children, Maddie and Mason and her friend, Lynette. They all was quite surprised and overtaken with the food. As I sat down talking with Monyetta I found out she has so much See Shaw • page 6

Now is the Time for Promotion in the Workplace By Benita Barrozo, Founder/CEO Carrier Ministries
For the majority of Christians in the Body of Christ, God uses secular jobs as a vessel to bless us with the resources we need to provide for ourselves and our families. Keeping this thought in mind, do you believe it’s His will for us to prosper and promote in the workplace? If the answer is yes, the next question is why aren’t we experiencing promotion? After all, we are tithing, giving, walking by faith, and confessing the Word. The answer to this question is found in three scriptures: 1) James 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.” 2) Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” 3) 2 Timothy 2:5 “and also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.” Although it is important for us to be skilled in our professions when it comes to promotion, we also need to have the knowledge and an understanding of: How interviews are scored Did you know each interview question is assigned a value based upon how important the question is to the position? This explains why you can answer the majority of the interview questions correctly and not land the job. How to answer interview questions correctly Did you know employers have moved away from asking skill-based questions to asking behavior-based questions? Behavior-based questions are questions that start with phrases like, “Tell us about a time when or describe a situation where….” There are four key points to answering these questions correctly.
