A recent visit from Love Sanctuary Community Church to the Montclair Fire Department yesterday was an incredibly special day for their Outreach Ministry, Children’s Church Ministry, and members of the church family. The visit and donation of over fifty (50) cases of water was arranged by Evangelist Loretta Crudup and Winsome Tynes. The church paid a visit to the Montclair Fire Department at 8901 Monte Vista Avenue. A total of twenty-one (21) members, seven (7) of which were children were in attendance. What a joyous and rewarding day it was for the church family. This donation was a simple token of appreciation, love, and deep gratitude to the firefighters. The children made special cards and letters that were presented to them. In turn, they received special junior firefighter helmets and stickers. So often,

firefighters, paramedics, and first responders are taken for granted with the work they do on a daily basis to keep our community safe. They perform their jobs dutifully and without complaint.

Thank you to Battalion Chief Pohl, Deputy Chief Jackson and all the firefighters of Montclair Fire Department for hosting Love Sanctuary Community Church.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturn, and a horrible and devastating fire season, Love Sanctuary Church took the time to show their love and appreciation to those who take care of our community.

talion Chief Pohl graciously thanked the church and indicated that something on this level had not been done for them, especially during COVID-19. He also expressed that usually they are thanked verbally, but donations are seldom. Gratitude was shown by all the fire fighters.

They were warm, friendly, and patient with the children; showing and allowing the children to have interaction with the firetruck, equipment and gear.

It truly warmed the hearts of the members, and children to see the time and effort the firefighters took with the children. Thank you once again for making the day an especially special one.

A pastor friend passed away from Cov-19, a dear friend’s brother passed away from Cov-19 and my son had it, thank God he got through it. A member of my church had it and thank God she got through it. Please, please if you’re not doing what the CDC is telling us, please start.

We are hoping that Theresa’s story will help if you might be experiencing some pain in your chest and haven’t did anything about it. Here’s Theresa’s Story!

Theresa rattled through all the possibilities as she worried about the heavy feeling in her chest.

But a heart attack? That didn’t seem possible even as she arrived at the hospital emergency department.

“It wasn’t a sharp pain,” she said. “It was like a heaviness that grew with time.” It didn’t take long for Theresa to realize the emergency department was exactly where she needed to be. She had indeed suffered a heart attack.

“She is very fortunate,” said the doctor an interventional cardiologist.

“She sought treatment for her heart attack and, as a result, she is going to have a good prognosis going forward.”

One of her coronary arteries, known as the windowmaker, was 100% blocked.

Two other arteries had blockages of 90% and 95%.

“When any of the coronary arteries suddenly close, some people will develop rhythm issues with their heart almost immediately. (They will go into cardiac arrest) and they will die before they ever get to the hospital statement made by the Doctor. “She is very fortunate that didn’t happen to her therefore three stents to open Theresa’s arteries were placed. She credits the emergency department and cardiology teams with saving her life.

“I am very grateful to them and to God,” she said. “I am really thankful to be alive.”

Health officials worry some patients are delaying medical care when they notice early signs of a stroke or heart attack because of concerns about COVID-19 at the hospital. “The coronavirus has instilled a lot of fear in people.

“Because of that, some people who need to seek treatment and have interventions done are not doing that soon enough.”

Don’t let COVID-19 keep you from going to the hospital if you have chest pains.

In hindsight, Theresa wonders if she felt signs of her blocked arteries the week before her heart attack. In the past six months, she often felt short of breath.

“I thought I was coming down with something or I was tired or needed to work out more,” she said. And in the past couple of weeks, she experienced episodes of tightness in her chest. She thought it might be caused by anxiety.

When she calmed herself, the pain dissipated?

Over the weekend, she began to feel tired and achy and noticed some

shortness of breath when she talked.

Worried she could have COVID-19, she underwent screening and received a test for the coronavirus that Sunday.

In the early hours of Monday morning, she awoke from a sound sleep with a distinctly uncomfortable feeling in her chest. The heavy feeling moved toward her left shoulder.

“When I talked more than a few words, my chest would feel like it was squeezed so tight,” she said.

Still, the pain eased when she forced herself to relax.

It is a common misconception that a heart attack always causes severe pain in the chest. While that is the case for some people, others describe a feeling of pressure or heaviness in their chest just as Theresa did.

“Oftentimes, a heart attack can cause very mild chest discomfort. “It’s important for people to recognize if they feel any sensation in their chest that is new, they need to contact their physician. And if it’s an uncomfortable sensation, they need to call 911 or seek emergency treatment.”

Early that morning, Theresa checked her COVID-19 test result: Negative. She then called her doctor’s office and described her symptoms. At about 9:30 a.m. four hours after she awakened with chest pain Theresa arrived at the emergency department. By that point, she said, “My whole chest and left shoulder felt really uncomfortable. It was never awful, awful pain, but it was definitely uncomfortable.”

She didn’t delay her trip to the emergency department because of fears of COVID-19.

“I wasn’t putting it off,” she said. “I just didn’t know what was happening.”

She felt more at ease when she saw the steps the staff took to protect her and each other.

“If you are experiencing anything you feel is life-threatening, don’t delay go to the emergency department.

Don’t let the fear of COVID-19 stop you!

Two days after her heart attack, Theresa went home from the hospital.

She is taking medication, learning about lifestyle changes and planning to do cardiac rehab.

“I will adjust my life,” she said.

“I want to live, so I am going to make some changes.”

And already, she feels stronger.

“I feel a million times better,” she said. “I’m so thankful for how it all happened.”

Self-reflection is a powerful method for deeply understanding and coming into sync with who you really are. what you truly value, and why you act in certain ways. There's never been a better time to reconnect with your Truth, core-self, and inner guidance within.

Through self-reflection you can make changes and take steps to bring your life into sync and desire with what truly matters to you deep down.

Self-reflection is different than meditation, or even setting intentions.

It is when you set aside some time to simply review where you are, where you’ve been, where you’re headed, and where you truly desire to go. It’s when you look honestly, and without judgment at your life to see where you’re on track and in alignment with your soul mission and purpose, and where you could use a little realignment or upgrade.

It's easy to get caught up in the busyness of life… The chaos of challenges, and even the comfort of routines that are less than what you really want to experience.

This is why it’s so powerful to take the time to pause, step back, zoom out and reflect about where you are, how you got here, and to look at the bigger picture of where you're headed…

Self-reflection is incredibly helpful in understanding who you really are, where you want to be, and where you're actually headed. It empowers you to learn from your mistakes, grow through challenges, and consciously progress on the path leading towards where you really want to be. “We do not learn from experience; we learn from reflecting on experience.” — John Dewey Doing a little self-reflection is simple, but not necessarily easy. Grab a journal, cozy up with a mug of tea, and start to look at who you are, what you've been doing, and where in your life you'd like to see some positive changes and upgrades. Look at your life honestly… But it’s also important not to judge where you are or where you want to improve. It's natural to have a

bit of a gap between where you are and where you ultimately want to be.

Just remember that taking time to reflect and observe this is a key step towards being able to make changes. So rather than judging the gap between where you are and the life, you'd like to be leading… Honor and appreciate yourself for taking the time to be self-reflective as a key step towards initiating a wave of positive change.

Asking good questions is one of the keys to having a beneficial self-reflection session… So here are some question prompts to get you started. This is by no means an all-encompassing list of things you'd want to reflect on, but hopefully it will help get you started with self-reflectiveness and in the right state of mind to ask yourself even more personal questions about what you truly value the next time you sit down to reflect.

You may want to ask yourself some questions like these: “Where am I on track in my life? What am I doing now that's in alignment with my soul purpose?

What are my core intentions? Where have I gotten off course this past year? How can I more fully stand in my authentic truth and shine my light? What really brings me joy?

How can I serve with joy and love in the highest interest of all?

Again, the key here is to reflect on these questions without judgment… As you practice self-reflection — presence, compassion, divine neutrality, and returning to love are essential. It's also a good time to clear your mind of preconceived notions and limiting beliefs and to tune into gratitude for the many blessings you do have…

When you do, the Universe can align you with so much more than you've ever imagined! Being honest and aware of where you are is the first step in growing, and dreaming up a more inspiring, fulfilling and brighter future…

A part of this reflection process is recognizing all that you already have, honoring who you are in your full light, discovering new possibilities to step into, and also observing where your life needs a little updating and improving.

Areas of life to reflect upon: (As you read through this list… Notice what areas you feel happy about… and with non-judgment, become aware of where

you could use some positive change and transformation.)

Then do some journaling about each of the items you would like to see improvement in. Take time to dig deep, and question what you would feel like if there was positive improvement in these areas of life. WHAT YOU NEED 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. sugar, divided 6 Tbsp. butter, melted 3 cups (12oz.) raspberries, divided 1Tbsp. Each zest and juice from 1 lemon 4 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened 4 eggs

MAKE IT HEAT OVEN TO 325 F LINE 13x9 inch pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides.

Combine graham crumbs, 2 Tbsp. sugar and butter; press onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake 10 min.

RESERVE 1/2 cup raspberries and 1 tsp. lemon zest for later use.

BEAT cream cheese, lemon juice, remaining zest and remaining sugar in large bowl with mixer until blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing on low speed after each just until blended. Gently stir in remaining raspberries; pour over crust.

BAKE 35 to 40 min. or until center is almost set. Cool completely.

REFRIGERATE 4 hours. Top with reserved raspberries and lemon zest.

Use foil handles to remove cheesecake from pan before cutting into bars.

A Day in the Life of an African American Doll Artist Lillian Black Hello everybody, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we're all doing things differently with technology to connect with one another. We are happy to present the Inaugural Virtual Annual Festival of black dolls hosted by American Black Beauty Doll Artists.

My name is Lillian Black a member of the nonprofit organization. American Black Beauty Doll Artists (ABBDA), in Oakland, California. I have been making dolls since 1996. I have found doll-making fun, exciting, relaxing, and expensive...and even therapeutic. After the death of my husband in 1996, making dolls came as an unexpected and welcomed source of grief therapy for me, to the point that two years later, I and 12 other doll makers went to London, England, to attend the International Doll Show. While there, I met a vendor from Berkeley, California, and I later visited her store.

The type of doll that I specialize in making is called "Porcelain". Working in porcelain can be time consuming. The technique involves pouring a liquid, called "slip", into doll body parts, called molds (the head, shoulder plate, arms, maybe hands, body and legs). The molds 7

always come in 2 parts, which require 2 to 3, 1-inch wide rubber bands to hold the molds together, so the liquid will not seep out.

After pouring the slip into the molds, the molds are set aside for a few minutes, to allow for the slip to begin the "set-up stage". The molds are then set aside in order for the final set-up stage, called the "leather stage", which means it holds its shape when it is "un-molded" (or removed from the mold). At the end of the leather stage, the mold is now called "green ware".

After un-molding the green ware, the cleaning begins. The cleaning involves removing all seams from the body parts with water and a paint brush and carving out the area where the eyes will be. Then the parts are placed in a 2 oven, called a "kiln" and" fired" for several hours at a very high temperature.

Upon removing the green ware from the kiln, the doll body parts are now called "porcelain". Cleaning of the porcelain doll body parts we use running water, extra fine sand paper; non-toxic, abrasive cleansing powder until surfaces are "glass smooth". The eyes are then

"beveled" for eyes to fit, to make my dolls look more life-like, I drill holes in the nose for the nostrils and small holes in the ear lobes, for earrings.

The fun part is painting, this is when I begin to bring my doll to life. After each painting, the doll parts have to be re-fired, which can take up to 5-6 firings.

Between each firing, I'm painting on blush, eyebrows, bottom eye lashes, lips, and other fine anatomical details.

The eyes are carefully set in using a special eye cement.

Putting my doll together involves a technique called "stringing", which means attaching arms, legs, and head to the body. Putting the doll together also involves gluing on upper eyelashes and a wig-hairstyle, specific to age and sexual orientation of the doll. And finally, the doll is born on the day that they are completely dressed!

DON’T STRESS ABOUT TRIMMING

YOUR DOG’S NAILS

By Contributor Writer If you share your life with a dog, you may have heard the "click-clack " sound of too long nails on the kitchen or living room floor. Nail trimming, and paw care is important for our dog's health. Paw care is important. The pads on a dog's foot provide extra cushioning to help protect bones and joints from shock, provide insulation against extreme weather and walking on rough ground, and help to protect tissue deep in the paw.

Both the ASPCA and the HSUS suggest health care tips for your dog's paws and nails. Your dog's nails should be trimmed when they touch the ground, when they are "clicking on the floor," or getting snagged. Some dogs who • walk on rough sidewalks may never need a trim, except for their dewclaws, if they have them.

Trimming your dog's nails necessitates the right equipment. There are two basic types of nail clippers for dogs, a guillotine type and a scissor type. Purchase the size that is correct for your dog. If a nail clipper is intolerable for your dog, an alternative may be a nail grinder, an electronic tool that sands nails down. Some dogs may find the sound and vibrations the nail grinder produces unpleasant.

There are also nail files for dogs that don't make noise, but may still produce an unpleasant feeling.

If your dog is touchy, it may take a few weeks of paw massaging before he is comfortable and can tolerate the sensations to allow you to work on his nails. If you decide to trim your dog's nails yourself, clip only the sharp tips of his nails. If your dog does allow you to trim his nails, start by gathering treats, the nail trimmer or nail grinder and styptic powder. Hold his toe firmly, but gently. While lavishing your dog with treats and calm praise, hold the trimmer so you're cutting the nail from top to bottom, (not side to side) and insert a

very small length of nail through the trimmer's opening.

Avoid nipping the quick, which is the pink area within each nail that contains nerves and blood vessels, and don't trim at a blunt angle. Try to maintain the existing curvature of the nail. Cut a little bit of nail with each pass until you see the beginning of a circle -- still nail colored -- appear on the cut surface. The circle indicates you are nearing the quick, so stop cutting that nail and move on to the next.

If you do cut the quick, your dog will probably yelp and may struggle. There are nerves in there and it hurts. End the nail cutting session and give first 8 aid. Apply styptic powder to the bleeding nail with a little bit of pressure. If bleeding continues for more than a few minutes, consult your veterinarian. Never force your dog to submit. The ASPCA notes some dogs show aggressive or fearful behavior when you attempt to trim their nails. Signs of distress include panting, trembling, whining, freezing, cowering, tail tucking, growling, snarling or snapping.

There are some dogs who are unable to get over their terror, even with the most patient and gradual of introductions.

Your veterinarian or a professional groomer may have better luck. I've tried to trim my dog's nails. But he can't tolerate the noise of the grinder or file, or the feeling of the trimming. Our veterinarian is able to trim Kasey's nails without it being a traumatic experience for him.

Don't stress your dog over nail trimming. Make the process as easy as possible for him. Maybe walking on rough sidewalk surfaces would help keep his nail length in check. Or, like us, your veterinarian can make nail trimming a better experience for your dog.
