We love spending quality time with our pups. You know there may be days when we wonder, “Why does my dog follow me everywhere?” The answer has to do with your dog’s animal instinct, pack mentality, and a few other variables. Canine companions that follow their humans everywhere are often referred to as “velcro dogs” because of their desire to be attached to your side. “Dogs are pack animals, and we are their pack.” author and holistic physical therapist for pets and people. There are scientific reasons behind dogs’ clingy behavior. “Young puppies (anywhere from birth to 6 months of age) can often imprint on their owners and look to them as they would their mother. Another reason your dog might stay close to your side is positive reinforcement. “If every time you are with your dog, he gets affection or treats, he’s likely to follow you around more often. If you’re flattered by this affection, and reward your dog for being clingy, you’re sending him a message that the behavior is welcome. Because dogs respond to their owners’ behavior, it’s important to examine your relationship. For example, if your dog sleeps in your bed, you might be creating a dependency and reinforcing his need to be close to you at all times.

In households consisting of multiple people, there’s a good chance your dog will become fixated on one person in particular. Sometimes it’s the primary caregiver who provides food and walks or the fun-time human who plays tug -of-war, a game of catch, or hands out endless amounts of treats. “Look at it from the dog’s point of view,” says dog trainers. “You might think you’re the cool one, but the person your dog is attached to is the road to everything wonderful and magical. The focus is on that person because of what they give access to.” A dog’s life experience before entering your home can play a big part when it comes to being fixated on one person, especially for dogs who have been rescued. What was their life like before they came to live with you? “Those previous experiences have an impact on a dog and can contribute to the lingering fear of abandonment. If your dog is overly attached, it’s important to figure out whether this velcro behavior is part of his personality and breeding, or if something more serious is going on. For example, an older dog may be losing his sight or hearing, becoming more fearful of the environment and dependent on having you nearby. “A dog that suddenly becomes very clingy may be suffering from a physical ailment and keeping you in reach for comfort. What does 'Auld Lang Syne' mean? Explaining the New Year's Eve song The song's rise to fame in North America is likely thanks to Guy Lombardo, whose orchestra played it on his radio and TV shows each New Year's Eve from 1929 to 1977, Hopes said. The phrase "auld lang syne" directly translates from Scots language to modern English as "old long since," but can be interpreted in practice as “old times, especially times fondly remembered” or an “old or long friendship,” according to Dictionary.com. If you feel yourself getting a little teary-eyed and sentimental while singing along, it might not just be the champagne. The phrase is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia, especially to memories of good times spent with friends. The first lines of the song – "Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?" – serves as a reminder to cherish those fond memories that we've already had, which makes the message a fit for New Year's Eve night. The full, original lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne" extend much further than what is normally sung at New Year's Eve parties in the U.S., where just the first verse and the chorus will normally suffice: (Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? By Ethel Martin-Miller This article will be one of the most special articles I will have had the honor of writing. I will be giving recognition of a beauty soul by the name of Ruth Jones. I was blessed to meet, love and call her my friend. Her name as I would always call her was “Mother Ruth”. Instead of using the word sadness I will use the word honor to announced the place where Mother Ruth now lives which is in the “Presence of the Lord”. She was born on April 19, 1916 and went home on December 26, 2021 at the Blessed age of 105 years. This story is about my beautiful friend and church member in which we both are members of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in the city of Pomona. It is with such joy for me to share a little about her life story. I will always remember how she loved to dress for church wearing her Hats and they would always be matching her suits not to forget the jewelry she would match up perfectly. She loved her bling jewelry. I would sometimes catch Mother Ruth pulling up into the church parking lot, driving and parking her new Lincoln SUV mine you she drove right up to the age of 100. She looked so cute as the driver and her niece Mary Edna as the passenger. She then would get out of the vehicle and make her way inside the sanctuary and sit on the third pew on the left-hand side with her niece sitting by her side. She was always totally involved in the Sermons and clapping her hands to the beat of the choir’s music. Mother Ruth Jones was born in Emerson, Arkansas, Columbia County. Her mother, Mary and father, Reverend Nathan Williams had four children. Mother Ruth’s mother in a previous marriage had six children totaling 10 children in the family. Mother Ruth was the baby girl in which now all of her siblings preceded her in death. Mother Ruth was truly blessed by God with longevity, health and the abilities to drive herself around. She was raised by God fearing parents, her father a minister and her mother a
choir soloist. When her father conducted revivals Mother Ruth would lead the devotionals for her father at a very young age. She was baptized at the age of 12 years old at the Friendships Baptist Church in the state of Arkansas. She remained a faithful member of the church and married at age 21 to Mr. Martin Miller. There were no children to that union. They left living in Arkansas and took up resident in the city of Chicago, Illinois. It was war time and Mother Ruth was employed at a defense plant that made airplane parts, after the war ended, she went to work for a Corn Product Plant. Mr. Martin Miller passed and sometime afterward she re-located to Los Angeles, California with family in 1956. Mother Jones purchased her first home and she opened a Day-Care Center and worked it for years. She attended a Store Front Church, which later becoming the Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church located on 41st & Hoover in the city of Los Angeles. She worked very hard in the church and was very instrumental in the contributing of the new church building. She later married John Arthur Jones and after his retirement they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon where they lived there 27 years and then he passed in 2005. In 2006 she re-located to West Covina, California where she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Our Pastor, William Tyler and the entire congregation loved Mother Ruth so much. It was truly God that gave her so many years here on earth where she would be able to enjoy her love for gardening and caring for all the different kinds of vegetables and beautiful flowers in her large back yard. Mother Jones told me that all of her years were not without struggles. That her strong faith in God and never wavering in her beliefs about God was what brought her through so many years. I would like to end this article as thanking God for allowing me to see the Glory of God in the life of Mother Ruth W. Jones’ life and I thank God that I was blessed in knowing this lady and love her very much.

By Research Department That’s the conclusion of a new study that sheds more light on which herbal remedies should send up a red flag for people on certain drugs. In addition to dangerous side effects, herbal products can impact the efficacy of the drugs, researchers said. The analysis evaluated 49 case reports and two observational studies. In them, researchers noted 15 cases of adverse drug reactions. Most of the patients had cancer. They were taking alkylating agents and/or kinase inhibitors, such as busulfan, temozolomide, and gefitinib. Others had a cardiovascular disease and were on warfarin or had undergone a kidney transplant and were taking cyclosporine. Some of the most problematic substances are herbal products that are widely known, such as St. John’s wort and Ginkgo biloba. According to the report, herbals such as sage, flax seed, cranberry, goji berry, chamomile, and green tea can interact with some cardiovascular drugs and cause bleeding. Herbal drugs such as QR and Mentat, used to treat arthritis, and celery root, used to treat menopause, worsened depression in some cases. The researchers also noted a link between a patient taking phenytoin or valproic acid who had a seizure. Of the case reports evaluated, researchers said that herb-drug interactions were probable for 51 percent of incidents. In 37 percent, there were possible herb-drug interactions that were highly probable. In 4 percent of cases, an interaction was doubtful. Overall, the authors warn that people taking herbal supplements such as Ginkgo biloba, Panax ginseng, St. John’s wort, and green tea make sure they check with their doctors to ensure the supplements aren’t known to cause interactions with prescribed medications. Don’t keep your doctor in the dark! According to the researchers, the failure to disclose the use of herbals is what causes such adverse events. “Patients’ deliberate refusal to disclose their use of herbal medicines to clinicians have led to underreporting of clinically relevant herb-drug interactions. Here are a few herbal products known to cause adverse reactions with certain prescription drugs: 5
Fenugreek. People with diabetes should watch out for this herb, “It may lower blood sugar levels too much and may interact with some diabetes medications,” “And if you’re taking an anticoagulant (which helps to delay blood clotting) such as warfarin, this could be a dangerous combination because fenugreek may also slow blood clotting.” Melatonin. Don’t mix this with sedatives such as benzodiazepines, narcotics, and some antidepressants. Melatonin makes you tired while sedative drugs also make you sleepy. “You should also avoid taking melatonin if you take anticoagulant medications like Coumadin, as melatonin may slow blood clotting so you may increase your chance of bleeding and bruising. St. John’s wort. Don’t mix it with antidepressants, as it could cause the serotonin in your body to rise too much, which can lead to seizures and muscle rigidity. Don’t take it if you’re on birth control or blood thinners either, researchers said. Gingko biloba. Watch out if you take this with fish oil supplements, ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin. Though the medications are sold over the counter, they are all blood thinners and can increase the risk of bleeding. Ginkgo biloba slows blood clotting and may also cause bleeding. Echinacea. Be cautious if you take this while on prednisone. Echinacea stimulates the immune system, while the steroid prednisone decreases the immune system, so they interfere with each other. Schisandra. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health Trusted Source, if you take this herb and a drug, the amount of the drug in your body may increase, and the drug’s effects can become too strong. “We think many people are completely unaware that some herbs interact with drugs because they view herbs as natural and without possible side effects,” Lakatos and Lakatos Shames said. “Most people don’t realize that medications are made from herbs, and there can be dangerous consequences from mixing them with other drugs.” Be safe before combining medication and herbal products make sure to talk to your primary Physician or your Pharmacist

Eggs Are Among the Most Nutritious Foods on the Planet By Staff Research Now that we are experiencing this Pandemic, we have so many more people facing mental illnesses. There possibly are family members and friends who are experiencing mental illness due to the Pandemic, so we have to be vigilant in watching for any of these signs. Suicide is not a mental illness but a serious potential consequence of treatable mental disorders that include major depression, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa. Any of these could be potential warning signs for suicide: Severe sadness or moodiness. Long-lasting sadness, mood swings, and unexpected rage; Hopelessness. Feeling a deep sense of hopelessness about the future, with little expectation that circumstances can improve; Having a Sleeping problem; Sudden calmness. Suddenly becoming calm after a period of depression or moodiness can be a sign that the person has made a decision to end their life; Withdrawal. Choosing to be alone and avoiding friends or social activities also are possible symptoms of depression, a leading cause of suicide. This includes the loss of interest or pleasure in activities the person previously enjoyed; Changes in personality or appearance. A person who is considering suicide might exhibit a change in attitude or behavior, such as speaking or moving with unusual speed or slowness. In addition, the person might
suddenly become less concerned about their personal appearance; Dangerous or self-harmful behavior. Potentially dangerous behavior, such as reckless driving, engaging in unsafe sex, and increased use of drugs or alcohol, might indicate that the person no longer values their life; Recent trauma or life crisis. A major life crisis might trigger a suicide attempt. Crises include the death of a loved one or pet, the end of a relationship, diagnosis of a major illness, loss of a job, or serious financial problems; Making preparations. Often, a person considering suicide will begin to put their personal business in order. This might include visiting friends and family members, giving away personal possessions, making a will, and cleaning up their room or home. Some people will write a note before taking their own life. Some will buy a firearm or other means like poison; Threatening or talking about suicide. From 50% to 75% of those considering suicide will give someone -- a friend or relative -- a warning sign. It may not be an outright threat. They may talk an unusual amount about death or say things like “It would be better if I wasn’t here.” However, not everyone who is considering suicide will say so, and not everyone who threatens suicide will follow through with it. Every threat of suicide should be taken seriously. Over 3,200 people of various ages commit suicide in the state of California. Upon reading the signs of potential suicide victim maybe we will be able to talk them into getting some help!

However, many studies have shown that the dietary cholesterol in eggs does not adversely affect cholesterol levels in the blood. In fact, eggs raise your “good” HDL cholesterol and change your “bad” LDL cholesterol from small and dense to large, which is benign One analysis of 17 studies on egg consumption and health discovered no connection between eggs and either heart disease or stroke in otherwise healthy people. What’s more, multiple other studies have led to the same conclusion; Despite incorrect assumptions about eggs in the past, eating them has no association with heart disease . Eggs are particularly rich in the two antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants gather in the retina of the eye where they protect against harmful sunlight and reduce the risk of eye diseases like macular degeneration and cataracts in one study, supplementing with an average of 1.3 egg yolks per day for 4.5 weeks increased blood levels of lutein by 28–50% and zeaxanthin by 114– 142%. Eggs contain large amounts of the antioxidant’s lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which dramatically lower your risk of age-related eye disorders. Eggs Are Among the Most Nutritious Foods on the Planet. Just think about it, egg contains all the nutrients and S one building blocks required to grow a baby chicken. Eggs are loaded with high-quality proteins, vitamins, minerals, good fats and various trace nutrients. A large egg contains only 77 calories, with 5 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein with all 9 essential amino acids. Rich in iron,
phosphorus, selenium and vitamins A, B12, B2 and B5 (among others). About 113 mg of choline, a very important nutrient for the brain. If you decide to include eggs in your diet, make sure to eat omega-3-enriched or pastured eggs. They are much more nutritious. Make sure to eat the yolks, since they contain pretty much all the nutrients. Eggs contain all 9 essential amino acids, are highly concentrated with vitamins and minerals and are among the best sources of choline you can get. Omega-3-enriched or pastured eggs are the best. Eggs Are Filling and Help You Lose Weight they are particularly good and make you feel full which cause you to eat fewer overall meaning less calories. Also, they only contain trace amounts of carbohydrates, which means they will not raise your blood glucose levels. In a study in 30 overweight or obese women that ate either a bagel or eggs for breakfast, the egg group ended up eating less during lunch, the rest of the day and for the next 36 hours. In another study, overweight adults were calorie-restricted and given either two eggs (340 calories) or bagels for breakfast, after eight weeks, the egg-eating group experienced the following: 61% greater reduction in BMI; 65% more weight loss; 34% greater reduction in waist circumference; 16% greater reduction in body fat. This difference was significant even though both breakfasts contained the same number of calories. Put simply, eating eggs is an excellent weight loss strategy on a reduced-calorie diet.

It’s a common occurrence in most homes with pets that we sneak them a little bit of our food just to make them happy, or…they help themselves from the table, the garbage bin, or off the floor. The scary part is, sometimes we’re feeding them something harmful, without even realizing. Avocados contain a substance called persin, it can trigger vomiting and diarrhea. Not to mention the massive pit at the core of avocados, a deadly choking hazard for your pet. Coffee, if your dog happens to intake large portions of caffeine, depending on the intake and their body weight, it can cause death. Raw Potatoes - Potatoes are a nightshade vegetable and contain something called solanine which is toxic to dogs. There’s a loophole to potatoes though, and that’s cooking them! In the process of being boiled or roasted, the heat diminishes most of the solanine in the potatoes, making them an ok option. Grapes & Raisins while it’s not entirely known why grapes and raisins are so toxic to dogs, what we do know is that they are SO toxic that the results of eating them can be fatal. Pitted Fruits Pitted fruits are a wide vari-

ety of peaches to avocados, grapes, and cherries. While some of these are toxic to dogs, that’s not exactly where the concern lies. The pits themselves can and will create havoc in a dog’s digestive system. Dogs can’t complain when they have a tummy ache, and before you know it, you may be rushing your pooch to the emergency with a blockage. Chocolate small amounts of chocolate shouldn’t be a cause for panic, but will still likely cause your dog an upset stomach. Larger amounts, the theobromine in chocolate can lead to tremors, seizures, internal bleeding and even heart attack. Garlic & Onions if your dog gets a hold of more than just a tiny flavorful dose, you might be in trouble. Corn on cobs can cause an intestinal obstruction to your dog that can be fatal. If you’ve noticed that your dog is acting lethargic, vomiting, heaving or otherwise and you suspect they may have ingested a corn cob, contact your vet right away. Alcohol, please know that dogs don’t have the liver capacity to properly filter alcohol, making it have a poisonous effect very quickly. While dogs are especially fond of beer and it may be humorous to give them a sip, be careful because the
