Cher Calvin joined KTLA in 2005 and anchors KTLA’s award winning 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm nightly newscasts. Before her current role, Cher co anchored the weekendeveningnewsaswellasKTLA’s morningshow,whereshewonanEmmy in 2005. She has also won three Golden MikeAwards:twoforBestPublicAffairs

EMCEE Program,AccessLAandoneGoldenMikefortheKTLAMorningShow.Cherjoined KTLA in 2005. Her on camera career began in Manila, Philippines. While she was therefrom1998to2003,CherservedasnewsanchorandfeaturesreporteratGMA, Channel 7, followed by news anchor at CNN Asia Affiliate and national network ABS CBNBroadcasting.

At ABSCBN, Cher was the national evening news anchor for “News Central” receiving the Golden Dove Award for Best Newscast. Cher also received the Philippine’s Star Award in 2002 for Best Lifestyle Host for the lifestyle magazine show“F”whichsheco-producedandhostedforfouryears.Atthesametime,Cher hosted the weekly political round table talk show “Points of View,” also on ABS CBN,whereshereceivedtwoGoldenDoveAwardsin2000and2002forherwork. Believing it is important to give back to her community, Cher is a spokesperson and annual Master of Ceremonies for the charity Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches.ShehasalsoparticipatedintheVaginaMonologuestohelpstopviolence againstwomenaroundtheworld.CherspeaksTagalog,andparticipatesinmany Filipino, Asian community and KTLA sponsored public events, including the annualLotusFestivalinEchoPark.

Cher is a New York University graduate with a BA in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. Cher began her journalism career as a News Desk AssistantEditorforTIMEMagazineinNewYork.

Candid about her own ar depression, and addiction she hascreatedadynamiconlinecommunity.Herfirstbook,Confessions ofaFirework,waspublishedin2016byWorldStagePress.In2019she launched The Millennial Mija Podcast, and in 2020 she created a workshop series called Seasons of Self which guides participants as theyexploreself discoveryandpersonalgrowth.

Connie Chung Joe, JD, Chief Executive Officer of Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL), the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organizationforAsianAmericans,Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, has dedicated her career to advocacy and activism. Prior to joining AJSOCAL she served as the Executive Director of KoreanAmericanFamily

and linguistically responsive services to JoeworkedattheHousingRightsCenter Union in Chicago where she focused on immigrants and reproductive rights, racial profiling, police accountability, and First Amendment cases. A member of Bank of America’s National Community AdvisoryCouncilshehasservedonseveralcommitteesincludingtheCACulturally ResponsiveDomesticViolenceNetwork.

As CEO of the Women’s Foundation California, Surina Khan leads efforts to advance gender, racial, and economic ustice by building community-based power, making strategic investments in nonprofit organizations, training local eaders in policy advocacy, forging partnerships, and mobilizing significant inancialresources.Formorethan30 years,Khanhasbeenagroundbreakerinthephilanthropicandnonprofitsocial justice sector, beginning with community-based publishing in New England before shifting to national and global work on gender justice, LGBT and human rights, and democratic and civic engagement. Khan has held senior positions at the Ford Foundation, OutRight Action International, and Political Research Associates. An active volunteer and frequent commentator on the power of women’s philanthropy, she serves on many boards including the Funders for Reproductive Equity, Voices for Progress, CalNonprofits, and the American LGBTQ+Museum.
