Home History ? From the Seller Our house was designed by the midcentury architect Rosco Hemenway, built in an area that was once an apple orchard. Mr. Hemenway oriented the house so that, from the deck, you can watch the sunrise from east to west and, at night, follow the course of the moon. All of the houses in this neighborhood are on large lots of at least half of an acre. The covenants are written to protect the properties from being subdivided, so each home is ensured privacy. However, these big lots do not separate us; this is a friendly street. On a summer day, you are apt to find families walking down the court with children on bikes or in strollers. We love that this is a multigenerational community and that we know virtually everyone's name. It has been so much fun watching these families grow. On the first day we walked into this house, we knew we had found our new home. We are only the 3rd owner in its 80 years of existence, and we could feel the positive energy right away. When I looked into the backyard, I saw a blank canvas waiting for me, a Master Gardener, to design our private retreat. I have had so much fun creating different "rooms" throughout the garden that sits on almost 3/ 4s of an acre. We have a different view of one of these rooms from every window, constantly changing with the seasons. Our first major project was to add the sunroom, which faces southeast. Even on the greyest of days, this room is light and bright. You would often find us there on a winter day, reading or listening to music. I think this is my favorite room. We next added a deck for entertaining. We have hosted events large and small, including family reunions, two weddings, and a memorial. There has always been room for everyone. We then added a patio for more intimate gatherings. I will take so many fond memories with me when we leave this home. I love to cook, so we designed my dream kitchen, where we prepared lovely meals for friends and family. We love nature and have attracted an abundance of birds with native plants and a water feature. Many evenings, we sat at the bottom of our water feature with a glass of wine, listening to the waterfall and watching the birds bathe. We were incredibly grateful to have our ample space during Covid. We have a greenhouse that is cozy and inviting in any weather. In addition, we built a "garden casita," where we both have spaces for our hobbies. We have walkways through our gardens, and each day, it seems something new is in bloom.I will miss the birds, chipmunks, owl spotting, and nature. I will miss giving the dogs treats as they walk by with their people.
