Humankind is constantly evolving and changing for the better, we make changes to the way we lead our lives, to the way in which we believe things and the way in which we preserve are memories also. Photographs have been important in capturing important moments since camera became household objects.

However, we have come a long way from having only professionally clicked selective pictures to a couple of hundred selfies taken with the help of our smart phones, believes experienced photographer Yvette Heiser. While the way in which we take our pictures has changed, it is observed that even in the modern times, the most important moments are still captured through a professional’s lenses by photographers that know the trade like the back of their hand.

The Early Days: In the earlier times, having pictures clicked was a novelty and was something that the rich and the influential did. People and their statuses were judged on the basis of the photographs they clicked. Elaborate portraits would be taken and pictures would be framed and stored when cameras were machines that were owned and operated solely by the professionals. These were the very early days when the trend of photography was just born and being explored by the common people.

The Evolution:

There came a time when the cameras got smaller and more accessible. The machine that was otherwise operated by the select few was now owned even by those that had little or no knowledge of photography. The camera went from being a machine that captured important memories to a machine that helped make memories out of everyday routines. It was now possible for the common people to capture and preserve milestones in their lives that they would otherwise just experience and imprint in their minds, such as the first of school of the kids in the house.

The Digitization: The camera became even more common as the limitation to stick to a roll of images was eliminated with the advent of the digital cameras. People could not take high resolution images and would have a higher capacity depending on the kind of memory cards that they used. This is something that allowed amateur photography enthusiasts to explore their talents in greater detail. This was also the first step for a lot of people to realize their dream of learning the strings of professional photography.

The Modern Age:

In this day and age, all of us have mini cameras within our reach and we can choose to capture each moment as we live it.

Capturing images has become a regular everyday thing and no one bats an eyelid before they take pictures of everything right from the moon in the sky to the scoop of ice cream in their bowl.

However, the professional photographers like Yvette Heiser believe that even though people have access to cameras through their mobile phones, the expertise and the touch of uniqueness that the professionals bring in remains unmatched.
