nder the background of moder society, most architects focus solely on the present, creating a rich spatial experience and appearance. Especially in some areas, the transient commercial value often makes the architect even less thinking about the future. Therefore, in my design, I not only focus on solving the immediate social problems but also prepare for the possible changes in the region in the future. Architects should not only focus on showing off their skills or pursuing commercial value, but should plan ahead, anticipate social and environmental changes in advance, and respond to them in design.
01 丨 ‘N’ POLLUTION HEALER Symbiosis Skyscraper Design Site: Peking, China Project Area: 245,000M² Date of Issue: June, 2023 Course: Architectural Design (6) Type: Independent Project Instructor: Zhang Xiao The use of nitrogen, a symbol of the industrial revolution, brought prosperity to human societies while at the same time creating many environmental and climate problems. The conflict between human development and nature is particularly intense in developing countries. Global warming and air pollution are set to become increasingly serious. The conflict between economic development and environmental protection is a huge issue in today's society. Without exception, people in Beijing, where the economy is growing rapidly, are also facing such problems. I envisage that in the near future such a skyscraper will be built, which will solve the problem of nitrogen pollution to a certain extent, and will use architectural bionics to appeal to people's concern for the environment with its unique shape and ornamental qualities. At the same time, the model of this skyscraper is replicable and its concept and structural system allows it to exist on more than just its current site. In the future, it is envisaged that several such buildings could be used as office towers with ecological restoration functions, spreading throughout the city and truly addressing the issue of surface nitrogen pollution in the air and soil.

MAPPING & SITE STATUS
Peking, China Shougang Industrial Park
Site location
City center
The design site is located on the site of the Shougang Industrial Park in Beijing. Although Beijing's industrial pollution problems have been addressed to some extent over the years through a series of ecological restorations, there are still unused or operating industrial facilities on the site and, combined with years of pollution, many environmental problems are difficult to solve overnight. The government has begun to develop a commercial and office area near the site, which will become a bustling area in the future. The aim of the design is to provide a skyscraper similar to an eco-restoration tower on the site at this stage, which can accommodate a sufficient number of office workers while providing good treatment for nitrogen pollution in the urban area.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
ARCHITECTURE GENERATION The Symbiosis Skyscraper completes the printing of the main structure. The waste heat generated by the combustion of fossil fuels is used for two purposes in buildings. One is that the energy of the waste heat can be directly used to create a "natural greenhouse". The other is that its energy is converted into electricity through devices in the building for vertical farming. In addition, vines will grow along the 3D-printed architectural frame, and these wi ll purif y the sur rounding air while providing natural views, turning it into a "organic symbiotic architecture" in harmony with nature.

79F is the conversion floor and 80 is the resting floor with an atrium garden; this floor has a large cut-off area and allows people to walk from the core space to the exterior landscaped space.
60F is the office floor, and in addition to the localised relaxing landscaping greenery, it is also possible to walk to the exterior spaces where the plants grow. The structure of the external space allows for the purifi cation and circulation of both indoor and outdoor air.
30F is an alternative office fl oor model, again providing ample indoor and outdoor green space. As a lower floor, which is more affected b y at m o sph eri c nit r o gen p o ll ut io n, the building's external purification structure (plant fibres and eco-membranes) acts as a purifier.

02 丨 ‘WHALE’ LINE COMMUNITY Pseudogenesis Community Design Site: Hong Kong & Macao, China Project Area: 93,100M² Date of Issue: December, 2022 Course: Architectural Design (5) Type: Independent Project Instructor: Zhang Xiao
As the national urbanization process and local economic development continue to progress, the living conditions on land are inevitably deteriorating with the influx of population. Expanding residential areas have become crucial issues for enhancing the well-being of local residents. I conceptualized a linear community along the existing route of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The design inspiration for this community is derived from the tail of a whaleI envision this solution to robustly address the serious housing conditions in the area. The building also generates electricity through tidal energy generators integrated into its bottom support structure. For higher energy efficiency, solar panels and retractable shading structures can be added externally during construction. With the development of future economy and technology, the efficiency of commuting is expected to significantly improve. The time spent by individuals traveling to and from the land in these communities will be reduced. This implies that more community units can be constructed along bridges, and the commuting time for those residing away from the land will be within reasonable limits. I believe that in the future, this design will address residential issues associated with the local population increase come with economic development.

03 丨 ‘FLOW’ OF YANTAI High-Speed Railway Station Design
Site: Yantai, Shandong, China Project Area: 24,840M² Date of Issue: June, 2022 Course: Architectural Design (4) Type: Independent Project Instructor: Zhang Kuo
Situated in Zhifu District, Yantai, our project navigates the juncture between the harbor and commercial zones, addressing both potential and challenges. With the Lanyan Railway and Qingrong Intercity Railway slated to traverse the site, connecting additional areas as part of the upcoming government’s five-year plan, our initiative anticipates transformative change. Conversely, the extension of Qingdao Metro Line 17 to Yantai, intersecting this site, lacks a designated station, posing transportation challenges for nearby white-collar workers and residents. The project’s focal point is the transformation of the site into a dynamic transportation hub. Through a meticulously crafted 3D plan, I seamlessly integrate the high-speed train station, future metro station, and commercial services. This transportation hub aims to elevate citizens’ travel experiences while intricately weaving the fabric of the city. Newly designed surrounding leisure plaza and retail spaces create a comfortable environment for passengers, enhancing the overall experience. The project will help the future where Yantai emerges as the central hub in the northern region of Shandong Province, linking abundant commercial resources in the south with the primary administrative center in the west with the railway and metro. The surrounding vicinity has the potential to evolve into the most vibrant sector within Yantai District, attracting diverse recreational enterprises and research and development industries.

04 丨 THE ‘BAND’ OF ERHAI Cultural Complex Design Site: Dali, Yunnan, China Project Area: 52,590M² Date of Issue: December, 2021 Course: Architectural Design (3) Type: Independent Project Instructor: Zhang Kuo
Erhai is a renowned natural marvel in Yunnan, often referred to as the “Natural pearl.” This region is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes The local nation has a famous traditional art craft type: Zaran a type of intangible cultural heritage of local and has been consciously protected and inherited by local government. However, the rapid advancement of modern productivity has inadvertently brought about an unfortunate consequence , which a dwindling number of younger individuals willing to learn and preserve the precious skills of Zaran. This distressing trend is pushing this revered craft perilously close to the brink of extinction. The cultural zone is born near Erhai and aiming to echo the situation of Zaran. In addition, the complex design also brings some other influences to the local space. For example, in terms of designing, the shape metaphors the flowing trend of the fabric dyed in the process of Zaran. Furthermore, the gradient color design resonates with the muted blue hues often enveloping the distant Erhai mountains, intensified by the ethereal mist, as well as the clear skies above. Regarding zoning, the planning has 3 different zones, each of them has a different function to serve the visitors. Furthermore, the zones are lined thoughtful. People who stay and visit the exhibition zone will have a wonderful time. Regarding environmental designing, we use several endemic plant species to enrich the color and spatial experience. Additionally, the inclusion of diverse exterior spaces with multifaceted functions ensures that visitors’ varying requirements and preferences are aptly met within the zone.
