Site 1 has high human traffic flow since it is located near the bus stop.
Site 2 has somewhat high human density as people travel to the rail corridor to conduct their activities.
At Site 1, due to its location near F&B stores and main road, both sound and scent are very permeable as there is no existing walls or trees to reduce the sound or the scent.
At Site 2, sounds are greatly reduced as there is an offset from the roads to the site, and no existing facilities that produces odour.
Site 1:
- Singapore General Hospital
- Outram Community Hospital
Site 2:
- Silat Road Sikh Temple

- Highly accessibility as there are nearby public transportations.
- Many eatery stores are adjacent to site
- Entertainment such as playground is closeby.
- Currently being barricaded.
- Receiving high noise pollutions as site is located near the main roads, Kampong Bahru Road, and Blair Road. Hence, obstreperous.
- Strong odour scents from the eatery stores.
- Possibility to boost singapore’s economy as there is high human traffic.
- Could bring together various racial communities.

The area is calm since the large trees in the area block the view of the road. This fosters a serene environment that is accentuated by the availability of natural shade and the opportunity to be outside. Open space, hence, naturally ventilated.
How might we integrate the rail corridor with our site and maximising the green spaces surrounding it?
“This place has lost its popularity.”
A variety of cultures coexist in Bukit Merah. Because of this, many 1st and 2nd generation people make efforts to commemorate and maintain it by handing down or expressing traditions through clothing and food.
How might we instil the culture and history of the Bukit Merah area into the younger generations while still maintaining the traditions?
How might we integrate the rail corridor with our site and maximising the green spaces surrounding it?
How might we instil the culture and history of the Bukit Merah area into the younger generations while maintaining the traditions?
The place is overall quite lively as there is high human circulation due to the accessibility of the place and many interacted with the existing nearby shophouses or head to rail corridor to exercise.
While seemingly very secluded, the site is very accessible, being right next to a bus stop and within walking distance from a bus terminal
Our parcel that we chose especially near our sites cannot be accessed due to blockage and construction. However, the places surrounding it is rich in history towards the religious side with many temples and churches surrounding it.
The site overall is quite empty with no current plans to the area. However, the site is surrounded with places with rich history. I realised that site 2 is an area of high potential in giving existing historical places more value and purpose. This site can become a hotspot to attract people to the not well known historical landmarks.
