Dear YULA Community, As I look back on the four years I’ve served as President of YULA since the merger of both divisions, and look forward to my final year in that office, I’m filled with pride reflecting on YULA’s many achievements. We will be educating over 500 young adults in the coming year. May it be Hashem’s will to continue to add to that number. We will distribute more than $5 million in financial aid, made possible by an ever-growing number of benefactors, who are continuously increasing their support for a beloved institution.
VISION
We’ve had singular tailwinds helping us. Unprecedented government support during Covid and its aftermath helped relieve cash pressures. The merger and its savings enabled us to go a half-decade before we were compelled to raise tuition again. Those tailwinds have run their course. From here on out the sledding will be a little bit harder. But I’m buoyed by the enormous wellsprings of love and support coming from the community that will help us provide the best education, while keeping costs as contained as possible, for the foreseeable future. I’m most proud—all the credit, of course, to Rabbi Sufrin, the rebbeim, mechanchim, mechanchot, teachers and administrators—of the educational attainments of our students in Torah study, first and foremost, and in every other complementary field. We fielded a Chidon HaTanach winner, who placed 1st in the US and 2nd in the whole world. The masmidim, beis midrash and l’eila programs continue flourishing on both campuses. Our students placed 2nd at the Model UN and set records at Model Congress. Our student athletes had a 2 | Vision
tremendous year of growth, including our Tennis CIF champions. Perhaps most importantly, we’re sending a higher percentage of kids to Israel, to the Israeli army, to higher Torah learning programs and to YU and Touro, than ever. To the extent that we can help play a role in building Torah lives, including serious engagement with Torah learning, with an Israel orientation, while keeping our kids competitive for any marketplace challenges that may lie ahead, then we’re doing our job right. I’m incredibly excited that we now own an entire city block on Robertson, enabling us to expand the Girls Division. Completing that project will be the next President’s challenge—although I plan to make this year count, in terms of advancing the ball as much as humanly possible. I’ll conclude by expressing my thanks to our co-Chairman, David Nagel and Alan Gindi, to our executive committee and Board of Directors, and to the entire community for entrusting me with a remarkable opportunity to leave even the smallest of marks on an incredible institution. It has been one of the great and humbling opportunities of my life.
Seth Berkowitz President
Dear YULA Family, As we reflect on another remarkable year at YULA, I am filled with gratitude to Hashem for an incredible year filled with true growth. This year, our guiding theme was #ThatKindOfYULA with a particular emphasis on kindness. In a world that often celebrates achievement above character, we sought to reinforce a timeless Torah truth: true greatness is measured not only by what we accomplish, but by how we treat others along the way. This message is beautifully reflected in Parshat Nasso, the largest parsha in the Torah. While it contains many important laws and teachings, Chazal note that it also includes the repeated offerings of the Nesi’im. The Torah could have summarized these offerings in a few pessukim, yet instead repeats each one in full. Why? Because every individual’s contribution mattered. Every leader’s act of devotion was precious in the eyes of Hashem. At YULA, we strive to create a community where every student feels that same sense of significance, where each person is seen, valued, and respected. Kindness is not simply an extracurricular value; it is the foundation upon which Torah learning, personal growth, leadership, and achievement are built. Throughout the year, our students embraced this challenge in countless ways. They supported one another through academic and personal challenges, engaged in meaningful chessed initiatives, welcomed new students into our community, and demonstrated daily that being a ben or bat Torah means caring deeply about the people around us. While character remains our primary measure of success, this year was also marked by extraordinary accomplishments. Among our many achievements: • Akiva Shrier earned Second Place in the International Chidon HaTanach and Rafi Shrier also finished 1st place in the Chidon Hatanach USA bringing tremendous pride to YULA and demonstrating excellence in Torah learning on the world stage.
• We strengthened our student programming across Torah, leadership, wellness, Israel engagement, college guidance, athletics, arts, and extracurricular activities. • Our students continued to distinguish themselves through acceptance to outstanding universities, success in academic competitions, and meaningful community leadership. • We enhanced faculty professional development and educational innovation with a focus on AI. • We deepened partnerships with parents, alumni, and community stakeholders who share our commitment to YULA’s mission and future. These accomplishments reflect more than institutional success. They represent the fulfillment of YULA’s mission: developing young students who are deeply committed to Torah, intellectually curious, kind toward others, proud supporters of Medinat Yisrael, and prepared to lead with integrity. As we look ahead, we do so with tremendous optimism. The momentum we have built together positions YULA for an exciting future. The growth of our academic programs, the expansion of our facilities, the strengthening of our culture, and the remarkable achievements of our students all point toward even greater opportunities in the years ahead. Most importantly, we remain committed to ensuring that no matter how much we grow, we never lose sight of who we are. We aspire to be a Yeshiva where excellence and kindness go hand in hand, where Torah shapes character, and where every student feels known, valued, and inspired to grow. Together, we strive to build a community in which every individual contributes to something greater than themselves, a Yeshiva that is, and always will be, #ThatKindOfYULA. Thank you for your partnership, trust, and support. Together, we are building not only an exceptional Yeshiva, but a generation of Torah leaders who will impact Am Yisroel and the world for years to come. With tremendous Hakarat Hatov to Hashem and to each and everyone of you,

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
#THATKINDOFYULA Our theme this year was Kindness, driving our mission to be #ThatKindOfYULA. This commitment to caring for one another and recognizing our place within the larger community infused everything we experienced this year.
PILLARS OF A YULA EDUCATION:
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
We lived this theme daily, from the bonding of our Shabbatonim and Color War themes to clean up campaigns. In the classrooms, our teachers were more in tune with supportive instruction, while kindness signs throughout the hallways served as constant reminders of our goal. Together, we truly showed the community what it means to be #ThatKindOfYULA.
IMPACT DAY For Impact Day, both our boys and girls divisions dedicated themselves to giving back and sharing the light of Chanukah across the community. Our students volunteered at various assisted living facilities and senior centers, including Savant Senior Living and the Iranian Jewish Senior Center, to uplift residents, while others partnered with Yachad to make bracelets and prepare for their Chanukah carnival. Students also packed Chanukah gifts with Chai Lifeline, helped Lev LA prepare food, packed Shabbos food boxes at Tomchei Shabbos, and assisted at Global Kindness and Shabbos Kits. Additionally, our seniors went shopping at Target with Love n’ Groceries to purchase and deliver Chanukah gifts for children in need. Not only were our students able to impact others on this meaningful day, but they were deeply impacted themselves.
L’EILA CHESSED An integral part of the L’Eila program is its vibrant chessed programming, which connects students directly to the community. This year, students brought this value to life through impactful initiatives such as hosting a festive Rosh Hashanah celebration for elderly women, uniting all four grades to prepare food 10 | Character Development

SPREADING SMILES
Throughout the year, Rabbi Ahoobim’s Kindness “Korner”, beginning with its first “Mussar Monday” lesson on Tomer Devorah, explored the limitless nature of kindness and how we can emulate Hashem’s divine attributes. The discussions emphasized going above and beyond what is strictly required to show extraordinary compassion and patience, which in turn invites Hashem’s blessings. Students were encouraged
YULA students gave of their time and their hearts to Chai Lifeline, serving as Big Sisters, visiting children in the hospital and at home, helping at i-Shine, and delivering meals to families in the hospital. In addition, Spreading Smiles, a club founded by two dedicated Chai Lifeline volunteers, has inspired even more YULA students to get involved, with members stepping up at a moment’s notice whenever a family needs support.

ISRAEL EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY
ISRAEL EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY This year, YULA remained deeply focused on educating our students to stand as knowledgeable, articulate, and confident Zionists. Amid a challenging year globally, our students engaged directly in activism, rigorous education, and real-world leadership.
ELITE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

•AIPAC & Club Z •AJC & FIDF Fellowships
RIGOROUS ZIONISM CURRICULUM •Senior Seminar: All 12th graders completed a comprehensive, onesemester course focusing on the roots of Zionism and the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The curriculum builds critical media literacy and prepares students to effectively counter contemporary anti-Zionist rhetoric.
•Foundational History: Students in grades 9–11 explored the 4,000year scope of Jewish history, emphasizing the centrality of Israel and the milestones of the modern State.
STUDENT-LED LEARNING & COMMUNITY VOICES •YIAC Lunch Club: A studentorganized and student-taught weekly series covering modern Israeli history and current events, supplemented by experts from AIPAC, StandWithUs, and Unpacked. •Inspiring Activism: Students heard directly from prominent activists, including Harvard graduate Shabbos Kestenbaum, who spoke about standing up for the Jewish community through national media and government engagement. •Faculty Growth: YULA educators invested in their professional development by attending and presenting at the national Unpacked Conference for Israel Education.
STUDENT LIFE One of YULA’s greatest strengths is the meaningful, lasting relationships our students build with their rebbeim, mechanchot, and teachers. These connections extend far beyond the classroom, creating a culture of mentorship, belonging, and genuine care that shapes every student’s experience. Throughout the year, our dedicated faculty opened their homes and hearts to students, hosting countless Shabbos dinners, Seudat Shlishit gatherings, Onegs, and Chanukah and Purim programs. These shared experiences fostered a sense of community and strengthened the bonds between students and faculty.
STUTDENT LIFE
Student programming further enriched campus life by providing countless opportunities for leadership, chessed, connection, and personal inspiration. Through grade-wide and program-wide Shabbatonim, a Girls Division schoolwide Shabbaton, specialized weekend retreats, and a wide variety of student-led initiatives and experiences, students developed leadership skills, deepened their commitment to serving others, and forged lasting friendships rooted in shared values and Torah. Behind each of these experiences is the extraordinary dedication of our rebbeim, mechanchot, and teachers, whose commitment extends far beyond scheduled programming. From organized events to impromptu Shabbat meals, informal gatherings, and countless acts of generosity, they create an environment where every student feels known, valued, and supported. Together, our faculty and student programming create more than an exceptional school, they create a true home away from home, where students are inspired to grow, empowered to lead, and connected to a community that will stay with them for a lifetime. ARTS The Arts program had an outstanding year across both divisions, providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop their creativity, technical skills, and artistic expression. At the Girls Division, a highlight was the Week of the Arts, which featured a campus-wide art exhibition of student paintings, lunchtime portrait painting, and a communal mural. The Week of the Arts also highlighted the various other arts that happen in the school, with a live performance of a scene from The Man Who Came To Dinner, creative writing activities, and live music by the school band and a special cello and guitar performance by Ms Chelsea Dunn and Ms Gabriella Mahboubi ‘13.
welcomed Ms. Leat Silvera this year, bringing a renewed emphasis on technical excellence, creative exploration, and fostering a classroom where students approached art with curiosity, perseverance, and confidence. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, charcoal, and a wide range of artistic processes, students developed strong technical skills while gaining the confidence to express ideas uniquely their own.
The Boys Division Art Department 14 | Arts Campus
ARTS
As part of YULA’s Yom Ha’atzmaut program, students collaborated on a memorial project honoring Israeli hero Ron Gvili. The Girls Division created a series of communal paintings telling his story of heroism that saved countless lives in the Oct. 7th massacre. At the Boys Division, Using airbrushing, metal and ink embossing, printmaking, and mixed media, each student created an individual 9” x 12” parchment page for a commemorative book on display in the Beit Midrash. Looking ahead, the department is excited to continue expanding opportunities for young artists by introducing Honors Art next year and AP Art the following year.
Often the Art Department has worked with Judaic Studies to create cross-curricular projects. As part of the Yom HaShoah program, 9th and 10th grade students created artwork based around the idea of what family heirlooms they would take if they had to suddenly leave their home. In ceramics, students created a series of balloon sculptures which explored the suffocating conditions in the Hamas tunnels and the joy of the hostages being able to breathe freely again after their release.
and enthusiasm.
DRAMA The Girls Division showcased its theatrical talent under YULA Performing Arts Director, Margy Horowitz, with successful productions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Man Who Came to Dinner.
MUSIC During the first semester, students built foundational skills across a wide range of media and techniques. By the second semester, they independently selected projects, chose the materials and methods that best supported their ideas, and tackled increasingly complex creative challenges with growing independence
We saw strong band participation this year across both divisions, reflecting continued growth and enthusiasm for our music program. Students from both divisions performed beautifully at their respective Open Houses and proudly represented YULA at the Trustee event, showcasing their talent and skills.
FACULTY HIGHLIGHTS Our faculty’s dedication to scholarship, leadership, and communal enrichment continues to elevate the YULA community, modeling lifelong learning and professional excellence for our students.
RAV YITZCHAK ETSHALOM continues to share his
profound Torah scholarship on a global stage. This past spring, he lectured at the prestigious SAR Tanakh Conference, and this summer he will present at the renowned Yemei Iyyun beTanakh at Herzog College in Alon Shvut. SHIRA HERSHOFF, Girls Division Director of Israel Guidance and Judaic Studies Teacher and Melissa Beck ‘00, Judaic Studies Teacher, represented YULA at the Orthodox Union Women’s Leadership Conference, joining an elite group of educators, rebbetzins, and communal professionals. The conference focused heavily on addressing student mental health, particularly within the context of high school mentorship and the seminary admissions process. Mrs. Hershoff collaborated with peer mechanchot (educators) during specialized counseling forums to analyze emerging trends in seminary disclosure and selectivity, ensuring YULA continues to provide optimal, holistic guidance as alumnae transition to their gap-year studies and beyond.
ATHLETICS
The year was headlined by Boys Tennis becoming the CIF Southern Section Division 7
Champions, marking the

PANTHER ATHLETICS The Athletic Department had a historic and highly successful year, highlighted by seven teams qualifying for postseason competition: Girls Tennis, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Boys Tennis, Boys Volleyball, and Boys Flag Football, along with student-athletes competing in both the Liberty League Golf and Tennis Tournaments. This success underscores the continued growth and strength of YULA Athletics.
Girls Basketball also had an outstanding season, winning the Independence League Championship, while Boys Volleyball advanced to the CIF Semifinals for the first time in school history.
Additionally, many of our current and former student-athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, with several continuing their athletic careers as NCAA student-athletes at Yeshiva University.

er safety. Strong parent-school partnerships are essential in supporting student success. By working together, we can help ensure that our students feel supported, prepared, and empowered to make safe and responsible choices. Our Parent Hebrew Ulpan, led by Mrs. Ziva Plattner, continued this year during the second semester, meeting on Monday mornings at the Gindi Family Girls Campus. The program provided parents with the opportunity to strengthen their Hebrew language skills while connecting with fellow parents and building relationships within the school community.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT PARENT COUNCIL Our Parent Council, led by Co-Presidents Rivka Most and Felice Gottlieb ‘98 and Treasurer, Jennifer Wintner ‘98, continued to enhance parent engagement and strengthen the YULA community throughout the year. The Parent Council organized monthly Rosh Chodesh treats for faculty and staff, coordinated Chanukah gifts, facilitated parent volunteers for school activities, and helped manage parent WhatsApp groups. They also hosted an incredible schoolwide parent social, bringing families together to meet, reconnect, and build new relationships within the YULA parent community.
PARENT EDUCATION Our annual December 25th Yom Iyun programs were truly inspiring. At the Girls Division, students, parents, and faculty came together for a meaningful

At the Boys Division, more than 250 fathers, grandfathers, alumni, and rebbeim filled the Beit Midrash for an uplifting Father-Son Learning program and an engaging shiur by Rabbi Becker on Limudei HaTorah. This year, we expanded our parent programming with a new series of Parent Painting Classes led by Fletcher Crossman, Girls Division Director of Arts. The classes gave parents the opportunity to explore their creativity, build meaningful connections with one another and our faculty, and leave with beautiful works of art. This year’s Parent Guidance Education Program provided families with valuable information on important topics, including technology safety, substance abuse prevention, gambling awareness, digital citizenship, and driv-
The Parent Book Club continued to bring parents together throughout the year for meaningful discussions, thoughtful conversations, and community building. Led by Ms. Benhamou and hosted by members of the YULA community, parents explored a diverse selection of books, including fiction, memoirs, and contemporary works, while enjoying the opportunity to connect and engage with one another beyond the classroom.

A dream years in the making became a reality this November. With the purchase of 1601-11 S. Robertson Boulevard, YULA took a historic step toward building the future of YULA Girls Division. This milestone represents our deep commitment to creating a campus that inspires, supports, and empowers generations of students to come. With this purchase, YULA now owns the entire block, positioning us to expand the Gindi Campus and create an environment that reflects the excellence, inspiration, and warmth that define our school. Over the past 10 months, we have been developing plans for a transformative three-story expansion that will include: • 12 new classrooms • A 7,800-square-foot outdoor courtyard • A 6,500-square-foot gymnasium • An expanded Kest Commons • A Student Success Center • Science and arts wings • A dedicated music room
As we prepare to launch our capital campaign, we look forward to sharing our vision and partnering with our community to bring this dream to life. This milestone reflects YULA’s unwavering commitment to the future of women’s Torah education in Los Angeles. We are deeply grateful to the Gindi Family for their partnership and support, and we extend tremendous hakarat hatov to Alan Gindi, Seth Berkowitz,
David Nagel, and our entire Board of Directors for their leadership and dedication. Together, with Hashem’s help and the partnership of our community, we will continue to dream, build, and create a future worthy of our girls! Mazel Tov to the entire YULA community on this incredible milestone!
