Die Quellen: Schubert’s Poetic Sources

Join the Voice Department faculty, students and visiting Ong Teng Cheong Professor* Roger Vignoles as we explore Schubert’s Lieder from the perspective of the poets whose works resonated so deeply with him. Over the course of three evenings, we will take an in-depth look at the lives of those whose words were the source for some of the most beautiful vocal music we have today.

The voice literature students and voice majors explore the unique relationships which Schubert had with his poets in this lecture-recital.

Join YST Faculty Alan Bennett, Albert Tiu, Tan See Huey and Abigail Sin as they explore Schubert works to various poets ranging from Müller to Schiller, including his epic ballad, Der Taucher, the beloved Der Hirt auf dem Felsen and more.

Celebrated Lieder accompanist Roger Vignoles returns to YST to lead the voice majors in a concert of Schubert songs on the poetry of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Johann Baptist Mayrhofer.

The YST Chamber Singers present a concert of choral works by masters of the Romantic period, depicting emotions as expressed through references to nature in poetry.
