Our Concert Season Returns...

As we step into 2026, we are delighted to welcome you back to YST to celebrate the return of our 2025/26 concert season. This is a season that embraces cross-cultural collaborations, celebrates musical excellence, and brings a rich diversity of musical voices to life—and we’re closing it with performances you won’t want to miss.

From the return of the triennial Singapore International Violin Competition and YST Concerto Competition; to cross-institutional collaborations; recitals with YST Ensembles-in-Residence T’ang Quartet and Red Dot Baroque; visiting artists the Brodsky Quartet, Imani Winds and Stockholm Chamber Brass; as well as the season closer with the YST Orchestral Institute at Esplanade Concert Hall—don’t miss the musical diversity of our YST Community as we celebrate the close of an inspiring season and the start of a new musical year.

Inspirational life-affirming music-making is at the heart of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST) at the National University of Singapore.

Founded in 2003, YST has established a reputation as Asia’s most exciting international conservatory, nurturing a new generation of musical leaders in performance, composition, production, and community engagement. Across their diverse stories, they share a common home: the close-knit YST community with its internationally diverse student body, world-class faculty, and warm connections with alumni and the industry.

20 years ago, we began our journey with the Bachelor of Music (BMus) programme as our core educational focus. Since then, our educational offering has expanded substantially to include graduate, continuing education, and young artist programmes, as well as course offerings for NUS undergraduates at large. Further, we engage the public in music through our extensive concert programming, community engagement initiatives, and the work of our Centre for Music and Health.

YST & CUHK-Shenzhen Joint Concert

16 Jan (Fri), 7:30pm | YST Concert Hall | Free YST joins forces with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)-Shenzhen School of Music for an evening dedicated to cross-cultural dialogue and artistic exchange.

On this evening, join our YST student musicians as they perform alongside CUHK-Shenzhen faculty Yoon Jung Yang (violin), He Shucong (violin), Alvin Wong (cello), Yuan Long (flute), Xue Yingjia (piano), Yu Le (percussion) and Lou Xinyue (percussion) in a dynamic exchange between cultures, generations and creative perspectives. Look forward to new works by CUHK-Shenzhen Founding Dean and composer Professor Ye Xiaogang, alongside faculty composers Yu Pengfei, Chen Yi and Shen Yiwen— offering a vivid snapshot of contemporary musical voices shaping the region today.

T’ang Quartet & Friends: Renaissance & Emergence 18 Jan (Sun), 5pm | YST Concert Hall | $20

YST Quartet-in-Residence, the T’ang Quartet, ignites the year with Renaissance & Emergence, rising onto the stage with a surge of renewal. Energised with a spirit of transformation and new possibilities, they open the season with a vibrant momentum that sets the tone for the journey ahead.

Constant innovation and steady reinvention is the name of the game for the T’ang Quartet.

For 30 years, the group’s musical dexterity has surprised and delighted audiences locally and globally. Today, the Singapore-based quartet has grown to become one of the best known and most accomplished string quartets in Asia.

What started out in 1992 to break new ground in the sharing of classical music to a larger audience has grown exponentially. Witness their creative output of tight, stylist blend of East and West, seamlessly reinterpreting classical work for contemporary fans while appealing to traditional audiences.

Red Dot Baroque: Invitation to Dance

Centered on the groundbreaking orchestral suite Les caractères de la danse by Jean-Féry Rebel, the programme invites you to explore dance music from the Baroque era— brought to life alongside original choreography of the time, passed down through early dance notation. An evening of Baroque music and dance, not to be missed!

Singapore International Violin Competition 24 Jan–7 Feb | Various Timings & Venues

The Singapore International Violin Competition (SIVC) returns in 2026, celebrating exceptional artistry and the future of violin performance. A triennial global platform, the Competition brings together 30 outstanding young violinists under the age of 30, and has, since its launch in 2014, grown into a distinctive international event that champions artistic excellence, contemporary creation and meaningful musical dialogue.

Expect an unforgettable two weeks as our competitors deliver their most compelling performances before an international jury of distinguished performers and pedagogues, who will determine the laureates of SIVC 2026!

Ones to Watch: Concerto Competition Finals

6 & 7 Mar (Fri & Sat), All Day | YST Concert Hall | Free Every year, the Conservatory Concerto Competition brings together YST Year 2 and 3 students to compete for the opportunity to play their chosen concerto with the YST Orchestral Institute, in a celebration of performance excellence and artistry.

Following a series of preliminary rounds within instrumental family groupings, the first and secondplaced musicians from each area take the stage over two evenings. They will perform a complete work of their choice with piano accompaniment, assessed by an international panel of adjudicators.

Join us in witnessing this showcase of student talent, and find out who our next Concerto Prizewinners will be!

Stockholm Chamber Brass (SCB) presents an evening of chamber brass performance at the YST Conservatory.

Founded in 1988, the ensemble rose to international attention after winning 1st Prize at the International Competition for Brass Quintets in Narbonne and has since built a 35-year career as one of the world’s leading brass ensembles. SCB is dedicated to developing new repertoire, commissioning over 50 works, and has released six critically acclaimed recordings—including their recent album THEN, a collection of Renaissance songs and dances.

The ensemble regularly performs at major festivals around the world and remains passionate about education, giving masterclasses internationally and running their own Stockholm Chamber Brass Academy.

Orchestral Institute Plays Shostakovich, Haydn & Pärt

11 Apr (Sat), 7:30pm | Esplanade Concert Hall | $15-50 via SISTIC Round off the 2025/26 season with the YST Orchestral Institute in a programme that spans centuries and styles— from Shostakovich’s searing intensity and moral complexity, to Haydn’s classical brilliance, and Pärt’s luminous stillness.

The concert opens with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, composed amid political turmoil and long heard as a work of dual meanings—its public gestures of triumph shot through with an unmistakable undercurrent of impassioned struggle. Haydn’s Symphony No. 100 (“Military”) follows, delighting with its bold fanfares, playful contrasts, and vivid orchestral colour, showcasing the composer’s wit and imagination at the height of his London years.

DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47 <1937>

The evening concludes with Pärt’s Fratres for winds, strings, and percussion—a contemplative, meditative work of shimmering textures and spiritual resonance that invites listeners into a timeless sound world.

No booking is required for free events unless otherwise stated. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For everyone’s safety, admission will close once the venue reaches full capacity.

We welcome group bookings for schools, corporations, and groups of more than 10 people.

Admission Out of respect for other event-goers, late admission will only be allowed at suitable intervals between pieces. No children under the age of 6 will be allowed admission to our events, with the exception of children’s concerts. Food and drinks are not allowed inside the venue.

No refunds, exchanges, or cancellations will be accepted for inability to attend, change of plans, or failure to show up on the day of the event.

Accessibility YST offers step-free access from the street to all venues within the building. Accessible seating arrangements can be made for patrons with access needs. If you require more information about our facilities or wish to book accessible seats, please contact muscomms@nus.edu.sg.
