Talks & Tours WINTER POETRY WALK: PENONE’S WRITINGS 2 FEB / 11.00 / £5 A beautiful winter walk interspersed with poems, contemplations, texts and writings from Giuseppe Penone, shared by performance artist, Natalie Bellingham.

NORMAN ACKROYD: IN CONVERSATION 17 FEB / 11.00–12.00 / £12 Hear Ackroyd discuss his work, inspiration and YSP exhibition, in conversation with long-term friend John Bell, owner of Zillah Bell Gallery.

GIUSEPPE PENONE IN CONVERSATION 1 MAR / 19.00 / £10, YSP MEMBERS £8 Join Giuseppe Penone, one of the most eminent artists working today, as he discusses his work, influences and the inspiration behind his YSP exhibition A Tree in The Wood with YSP’s Director of Programme Clare Lilley.

MINDFUL MOMENTS: INSIDE OUTSIDE 6 JAN / 09.30–11.00 / £15 A unique opportunity to take part in an intimate ‘slow viewing’ of Sean Scully: Inside Outside and make new discoveries through quiet contemplation.

FOREST FRIDAYS: AUTUMNAL BUSHCRAFT DAY FOR FAMILIES 2 NOV / 10.00–16.00 / £20 Take a stroll to Giuseppe Penone: A Tree in the Wood and learn about how he uses the world around us to make his spellbinding sculptures.

Enjoy spending time in our Hidden Forest as you try open-fire cooking, woodland tools and fire-lighting techniques.

LIFE LIVED WITH PLAY: FAMILY PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP 3 NOV / 11.00–16.00 / £15 A unique opportunity for you and your family to spend the day with visiting artist Alice Irwin.

Explore her vibrant and colorful prints and sculptures, and respond creatively through printmaking together. As part of the day you will achieve your Discover Arts Award.

TALES FROM THE GALLERY: STORYTELLING FOR UNDER 5s 4 NOV, 2 DEC, 6 JAN, 3 FEB & 3 MAR 10.00–10.45 & 11.15–12.00 / £3 Join us on the first Sunday of every month for interactive and immersive storytelling in the gallery. Move, make and imagine together as the story inspired by the wonder of Giuseppe Penone’s exhibition unfolds.

SEASONAL FAMILY SCULPTURE WALKS 11 NOV & 20 JAN / 11.00–12.30 & 14.00–15.30 / £3 Guided by artist Natalie Bellingham, discover sculptures and nature, collecting objects you find along the way to create our own art.

WHERE THE SKY MEETS THE LAND: FAMILY DRAWING 18 NOV / 12.00–15.00 / FREE Drop into Longside Gallery for free inspiring and imaginative family drawing activities. Supported by a specialist artist, learn new drawing skills, discover new drawing ideas and explore Sean Scully artworks through lines, surface, and space as you draw.

FESTIVE TREE DECORATIONS 2 DEC / 11.00–13.00 & 14.00–16.00 / £5 (AIMED AT AGE 6+) Create festive decorations in time for the beginning of Advent. Taking inspiration from Giuseppe Penone: A Tree in the Wood, come and make seasonal decorations to hang on your tree. All materials are provided.

CAPTURING, CASTING, CREATING: FAMILY CASTING WORKSHOP 16 FEB / 11.00–16.00 / £20 Join us for an artist-led workshop discovering the ideas behind Giuseppe Penone: A Tree in the Wood. Enjoy a winter walk through the Park and create moulds and casts using clay and plaster, inspired by your family’s discoveries. As part of the day young participants will achieve their Arts Award Discover.

OUTDOOR SCULPTURE BUILDING: COME RAIN, COME SHINE 30 OCT & 19 FEB 11.00–12.00 & 13.30–14.30 / £3 Immerse yourself in an imaginative world of sculpture making. Work and play together to build sculptures inspired by artists in the Park.

Food & Music THE TREES FROM THE WOOD: FAMILY DRAWING 24 FEB / 11.00–14.30 / FREE Drop into our light-filled Underground Gallery for free inspiring and imaginative family drawing activities. Supported by a specialist artist, compose, capture and stretch your thinking through drawing ideas to discover Giuseppe Penone’s thoughtful and mesmerising artwork.

Workshops TRADITIONAL AQUATINT ACID ETCHING WITH NEIL WOODALL 2 FEB / 10.00–16.00 / £145 Taught by Neil Woodall in his studio in Sheffield, this one-day masterclass about aquatint in a working etching studio will help you develop ideas through direct printing processes.

NORMAN ACKROYD ETCHING DEMONSTRATION 16 FEB / 10.00–14.00 / £40 YSP MEMBERS £36 Join Ackroyd as he shows the process behind creating an aquatint etching, using sugar-lift or soft-ground etching, working from his watercolour drawing books through to a final print.
