Christ Church - Yankalilla
The beautiful brass cross on the altar is just one of the many historic items to be found in Christ Church. It was donated in 1889 by Rev H.J. Freeland. It is at this time of the year during Lent and Easter that we give special attention to the significance of this symbol in our faith. On Good Friday it is seen as an object of shame and humiliation when Jesus was crucified, and the central ring on the brass cross represents the crown of thorns that was placed on his head. Jesus’ death on the cross represents the ultimate sacrifice, where He took the punishment for our sins. We are forgiven and freed through our belief in Him. The empty brass cross also reminds us on Easter Sunday that He is now risen and is our brother in Heaven.
