Ms. Rosario Cora has applied design thinking skills to develop strategies to promote and implement sustainable practices in Puerto Rico’s agricultural sector as part of her dual master’s final project. Her topic was a reaction to Puerto Rico’s overwhelming dependence on U.S. imports. She saw an opportunity to generate awareness for the potential of local production by promoting the use of resources in a sustainable manner, the economic and health benefits of exploiting things in one’s own backyard, and the culture of ownership and taste. This final project was a perfect example of her skills to bridge design thinking strategies with an understanding of the community needs. Active citizen participation allowed the successful dissemination and implementation of novel ideas in the community.
