How much is a child’s trust worth to you?

It’s easy perhaps to take for granted our AmeriCorps volunteers because they are such an integral part of our campus, but they have our deepest gratitude.

grams engaged in service learning projects, tutoring and after-school activities.

Last year, our AmeriCorps volunteer group played a critical role in securing a grant through the George W. Bauer Family Foundation to build an outdoor kitchen near our campus garden and greenhouse, allowing our young people to learn more about the concept of cultivating, preparing, serving and eating food.

We continue to help youth at our Inner Harbour Campus and recently contracted to begin our Intercept® intensive in-home services program in Atlanta.

The Youth Villages Inner Harbour Campus is one of Georgia’s largest psychiatric residential treatment programs for seriously emotionally disturbed children and youth. The woodland setting on 1,200 acres just outside Atlanta offers a therapeutic environment for children working to overcome serious challenges. Our goal is to return children to a less-restrictive environment to continue their progress through intensive in-home services, with their family when possible, or therapeutic foster care when it is not.

Bauer Family Foundation provided a grant to Youth Villages-Inner Harbour for the construction of an outdoor kitchen liked to the campus community garden and greenhouse. The kitchen allows youth to learn more about the concept of farming, preparing, serving and eating food grown at the campus. The youth recently participated in a harvest festival where they were able to prepare a meal using the kitchen for the first time.

Marsha said she and her husband got the Christmas spirit when they knew Kevin was spending the holidays with them and decorated the house for the first time.

The Youth Villages transitional living program provides young adults leaving state custody the intensive support and guidance they need to make a successful transition to adulthood.

The program helps young people learn to deal with the minor and major problems that come with adulthood. They help participants find housing and health services, learn how to access transportation and meet their basic needs. Specialists teach life skills like time management, budgeting, menu planning and grocery shopping.
