MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF ALBERTA

On behalf of the Government of Alberta, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2024 Youth Singers of Calgary HEARTS OUT fundraising gala.

Stepping out on a stage takes tremendous courage, particularly when you are singing (or dancing or acting) your heart out. It is a feeling you never forget. Youth Singers of Calgary provides children, youth and adults with the opportunity to experience that thrill, and the personal growth that comes with it, while developing their skills. The company also offers participants the chance to experience what it might be like to work in Alberta’s exciting arts industries, which enrich our communities and culture and contribute to our economy.

Generous supporters like you are helping to ensure budding performing artists will continue to have access to this great program to hone their talents and share them with all of us! Thank you for believing in them.

Thank you as well to all those who made this event possible. Very best wishes for a fun and successful evening.

MESSAGE FROM THE HONORARY CO-CHAIRS LAURA HAMBLEY LOVETT & SCOTT LOVETT

We are delighted to have had this opportunity to support the Youth Singers of Calgary’s (YSC) annual charity gala. Getting funding for performing arts organizations is no small feat, requiring consistent effort to build the case for why this performing arts opportunity is not just a nice to have.

It is important that the community experiences firsthand the amazing talent and teamwork of YSC. That is why we are so glad to have brought in many guests and supporters who are new to Hearts Out this year. Your generosity and support mean so much to all of us who volunteer and work at YSC, and most importantly to the children and youth you are helping!

This year’s focus has included making clear connections between mental wellness in Calgary’s young people and the performing arts. The inclusive community that YSC provides allows children and youth a healthy emotional outlet, reducing their stress and anxiety. The feeling of belonging to a team and working together to produce magical performances elevates confidence and builds these youth into resilient adults and leaders of tomorrow.

We want to thank the wonderful leadership at YSC, CEO, Megan Emmett and CDO, Shirl Penner, for the great collaborative effort this year. We also want to thank the rest of the Hearts Out Executive for creating such a top-notch event, and the Sponsorship/Donations committee that has helped build awareness and support this year for YSC, and brought in many new faces. The dedication and teamwork of this community is wonderful to be a part of.

Scott Lovett and Laura Hambley Lovett

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-CHAIRS MEGAN EMMETT & SHIRLEY PENNER

We are thrilled to welcome this sold-out ballroom of Youth Singers of Calgary supporters. We know you are here to help us raise much-needed funding for our youth organization. We provide a welcoming inclusive second home for more than 500 youth.

We know you are aware our tuition could never keep up with the rising operating costs of a not-for-profit charity such as ours. Thank you for your assistance in making our wide variety of unique programs available to as many performers as possible, for Calgarians ages 3 and up.

The ATCO Performing Arts Centre is the home base for our organization as well as many community arts and recreation groups. Besides program and operating funds, we also need to raise the final $1.2 million to complete paying for our wonderful 18,000square-foot building. We know how to stretch every dollar and cannot wait to stop paying interest on our loan.

Have a wonderful experience tonight and thank you again for your generous support for this amazing cause!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Youth Singers of Calgary is privileged to sing, dance, act, and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation (Region 5 & 6). Thank you for gathering with us here tonight to honour and celebrate the work young people can achieve together. We make music tonight with gratitude for the many gifts this land and city provide, together with all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
