FAITH IN SPORTS GLORIFYING GOD... WIN OR LOSE

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

In this verse, Paul writes about how in all things we do, no matter how small, that we should use it as an opportunity to glorify God. In all parts of the routine of our lives we should reflect our devotion and gratitude, from the meals we eat, the conversations we have and how we act on and off the field, every moment reflects our devotion and gratitude toward Him.

When we lose, we must do so with grace. In Psalms 37: 23-24 it says “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” Even when we stumble, miss the shot, lose the game, or fall short of what we hoped for, this verse reminds us that failure isn’t final. With faith, every setback becomes part of the path God is using to strengthen and guide us.

When winning we must do so in a humility. James 4:10 says “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” True victory doesn’t come from proving we’re better, it comes from recognizing where our strength really comes from. Let your success point upward, humility invites God’s favor far more than pride ever could.

Our faith isn’t confined to Sunday mornings; it’s lived out every day. On and off the field, in victory and defeat, making ourselves living testimonies of God’s grace. Win or lose, every moment on and off the field is a chance to honor God, not just with our talent, but with our attitude, our humility, and our heart.

A proud native of Huntington, West Virginia, Caleb has been playing soccer for about 10 years, ever since he first joined to make new friends and have fun. What started as a simple hobby quickly became a lifelong passion, driven by his love for the game and the people who play it alongside him.

This season, one of Caleb’s favorite memories was earning a clean sheet—a moment that reminded him how far he’s come as a player and how much effort goes into protecting the goal. As a goalkeeper, Caleb knows that focus and teamwork are everything. Each save he makes is more than a stop; it’s a chance to lift his teammates and keep their momentum alive. He thrives under pressure, always staying calm when the stakes are high, showing maturity beyond his years.

Caleb looks up to Emiliano Martínez, not just because of his skill but because of the sportsmanship and kindness he brings to the game. “He’s really good and kind,” Caleb says, echoing the qualities he strives to show in his own play. His favorite team, Manchester United, also fuels his motivation, teaching him what it means to compete at the highest level while maintaining a love for the sport.

Whether he’s training, competing, or just spending time with his friends, he carries a positive attitude that makes him a joy to be around. When asked what he enjoys most about being on a team, his answer comes easily: “Hanging out with my friends.”

Encouraged by his family’s simple but powerful message to “Be great,” Caleb takes that to heart every time he steps onto the field. His work ethic, passion, and genuine love for the sport make him not only a strong goalkeeper but also a great teammate and friend.
