COLLABORATION CELEBRATES REGION’S YOUNG ATHLETES THROUGH SPECIAL FAN EXPERIENCE EVENTS
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics has announced a partnership with Youth Nation Magazine, further strengthening the bond between the Thundering Herd and young athletes across the region.
Through its partnership with the magazine, Marshall Athletics will host eight fan experience events in various sports per year, which provide Youth Nation's monthly featured athletes an opportunity to attend Marshall sporting events as honored guests.
The first of these fan experience events is scheduled for April 2026.
This opportunity and others like it continue with Marshall's vision within its 'Herd Mentality' in which the pillars include Engaging With Purpose within the community and Dedicating To Others by investing in those in the community through service and support.
"We are ecstatic about this partnership with Youth Nation Magazine, which continues to build the great bond that Marshall Athletics has within its community," said Ryan Crisp, Marshall University's Associate Athletic Director of Revenue Generation.
"Youth Nation Magazine does a great job of highlighting athletes throughout our area. Being able to collaborate with them for unique fan experience opportunities gives us the ability to inspire the next generation while providing meaningful Marshall Moments that will last a lifetime."
Nick Chapman, founder of Youth Nation, said the partnership with Marshall Athletics brings a level of excitement and inspiration that young athletes will remember for the rest of their lives.
"Marshall University means so much to families across our region," Chapman said. "For these young athletes to walk into a Marshall event not just as fans, but as honored guests, is something they will never forget. An added benefit to the partnership is that Marshall Athletics will have some of its own studentathletes featured within Youth Nation Magazine, which allows readers to learn more about the journey of their favorite athletes who represent the Herd.
Youth Nation Magazine is a community-driven publication focused on highlighting youth athletes and the positive influence of sports in their lives. Each issue features local players, their accomplishments, and the stories behind their dedication, while also bringing together families, schools, and local businesses to support and encourage youth athletics.
The fast-growing magazine currently highlights all the great athletes within our region through four separate editions: the River Cities Edition, the Kanawha Valley Edition, the Greater Teays Edition and the Knights Edition. The overall footprint of the magazine is currently more than 50,000 people.

At just 9 years old, Will Nibert is already learning that true strength begins on the inside. Competing in football, wrestling, and baseball with Barboursville Youth Football, Junior Knights Wrestling, Huntington Hounds Baseball, and Barboursville Youth Baseball, Will gives everything he has every time he steps onto the field or mat. But what sets him apart most isn’t just his toughness — it’s the faith that fuels it.
This year marked a powerful moment in Will’s journey as he was baptized at Mercy Village Church, a decision that reflects his commitment to living a Christ-centered life. Whether he’s in the classroom, on the practice field, or in the middle of a big game, Will says his faith “guides me and reassures me in times of stress.” His favorite verse, Psalms 23:4 — “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me” — reminds him that he is never alone, no matter the challenge.

Sports have taught Will the value of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. He believes that if God gives us His all every day, the least we can do is give our all in return. That mindset shows up in the way he competes — tough, determined, and unwilling to quit. And if he gets knocked down? He gets right back up.
Will doesn’t just compete for himself; he lifts up those around him. He encourages his teammates through prayer and by cheering them on every chance he gets. His leadership is steady and sincere, rooted in gratitude and strengthened by the guidance of God, Jesus, and his parents.
His message to fellow athletes is simple but powerful: “Always give it your all. Be tough. If you get knocked down, get back up again.”
For Will Nibert, being a Purpose-Driven Athlete means playing with heart, living with faith, and trusting that God walks with him through every valley — and every victory.

From Ona, West Virginia, Kasen Roachell is already showing a love for the game and a strong team-first attitude on the basketball court. Wearing No. 21 and playing point guard for the Milton Basketball League 2nd Grade All-Stars, Kasen has been playing basketball for about five years. What started as something his parents signed him up for to stay active quickly grew into his favorite sport.
One of Kasen’s favorite memories from this season was earning a spot on the Milton 2nd Grade All-Star team, a moment that showed how his hard work and dedication to the game are paying off. As a point guard, Kasen enjoys being involved in every play and helping his team succeed, whether that means setting up a teammate for a basket or bringing energy to the floor.
Off the court, Kasen enjoys spending time with his friends, but basketball is always close to his heart. A big fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, his favorite player is LeBron James, someone he looks up to for his leadership and all-around game.
When asked about the best part of being on a team, Kasen’s answer says a lot about his character: cheering his teammates on. Supporting those around him and celebrating their success is something he truly enjoys.
Kasen’s biggest role model, though, isn’t a professional athlete — it’s his dad, who has always been his coach and biggest supporter. With that kind of encouragement behind him and a love for the game in front of him, Kasen is already building a strong foundation both as a player and a teammate.

From the fields of Ona to the bright lights of high school competition, Zavier Tucker has been chasing soccer dreams since he was just three years old. What started as a love for kicking a ball around quickly turned into a passion for the game and the team atmosphere that comes with it.
Now a freshman striker wearing No. 8 for Cabell Midland High School and competing with Square One Soccer, Zavier continues to make his mark. One of his favorite memories from this season was playing his freshman year at Cabell Midland and winning the championship at the Ohio Fall Classic in Hilliard, Ohio — a moment that reflected both his growth and the strength of his team.
As a striker, Zavier thrives on creating scoring opportunities and bringing energy to the attack. He looks up to Neymar Jr., inspired by his creativity, flair, and confidence on the ball. Zavier also cheers for Barcelona and Marshall University, dreaming big while staying grounded in the work it takes to improve every day.
Off the field, Zavier stays active by running track and continuing to train year-round, sharpening his skills even in the offseason. That consistent drive reflects his belief that dedication and determination pave the way for future success.
For Zavier, the best part of being on a team is growing together — learning from both losses and wins, and forming lifelong friendships along the way. He credits much of his development to Robert Ngumire, owner and coach of Square One Soccer and a former Marshall University player. Since 2020, Coach Ngumire has pushed Zavier to believe in his abilities, work hard, and never give up.
With a strong support system and an unwavering commitment to the sport he loves, Zavier Tucker is proof that when passion meets perseverance, big moments are sure to follow.

From Milton, West Virginia, Landon Mays has been dedicated to the game of football since he first laced up his cleats at just five years old. Now in his 10th year and 11th season, Landon continues to build on nearly a decade of hard work, determination, and love for the game.
Wearing No. 20 as a wide receiver for Cabell Midland High School, Landon has developed into a dynamic playmaker. His favorite memory from this past season says it all — a one-handed catch against Hurricane that helped secure a big win. It was a moment that showcased his focus, athleticism, and ability to rise to the occasion when his team needed him most.
A fan of the Miami Dolphins and inspired by explosive athlete Tavon Austin, Landon brings speed and intensity to every snap. But beyond the stats and highlights, what matters most to him is the brotherhood that comes with being part of a team. The shared battles in practice, the unity on Friday nights, and the bond between teammates make every season unforgettable.
Off the field, Landon’s competitive spirit carries over into the weight room, where he trains hard and helps his younger brothers, Macks and Wyatt, develop their own football skills. Supporting them and setting the example means just as much as making plays under the lights.
When asked about his biggest role models, Landon doesn’t hesitate — his mom and stepdad. Their support and guidance continue to motivate him to keep his head up and keep grinding toward his goals.
With talent, toughness, and a strong family foundation behind him, Landon Mays is proving that the sky truly is the limit — and the best is still yet to come.

In these verses Paul wrote to the church in Corinth of the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which death and sin were defeated. What looked like the ultimate loss became the greatest victory in history. The cross looked like defeat. The tomb looked final. But three days later, everything changed.
And that victory still changes every game we play.
In sports, we talk about momentum shifts, comeback stories, and championship moments. We know what it feels like to be down on the scoreboard, tired in the fourth quarter, or facing an opponent that seems unbeatable. But Easter reminds us of something deeper: the ultimate victory has already been won. Because Jesus defeated death, we don’t compete for victory, we compete from victory.
So play hard. Compete with integrity. Encourage your teammates. Work like it matters, because it does.

As a pitcher, Lillian understands that the game often starts in her hands. She thrives on the responsibility, working hard to sharpen her mechanics, command the strike zone, and compete with confidence. Inspired by standout Morgan Zerkle and cheering for Marshall University, Lillian studies the game and pushes herself to improve each season.
While she has created plenty of memories along the way, what stands out most is simply being able to play the sport she loves. For Lillian, softball isn’t just about wins and losses — it’s about growth, commitment, and trusting that hard work will pay off in the end.
Off the field, Lillian’s talents shine in a different way. She helps work sound systems for her school band and show choir, blending technical skill with creativity. Whether she’s behind a pitching rubber or a mixing board, she takes pride in doing her job well and supporting her team.
When asked about the best part of being on a team, her answer is simple: friendship. The bonds built through long practices, travel, and shared goals are what make every season meaningful.

Playing for the Davis Creek Panthers, Cameron has spent the past four years developing his skills in both football and basketball — inspired early on by watching his older brother and catching games on TV.
Wearing No. 20 and contributing on both sides of the ball, Cameron takes pride in doing whatever his team needs to win. Whether it’s making a key stop on defense or stepping up on offense, he plays with hustle and heart. One of his favorite moments this season came when he blocked a basket and celebrated with a little dance — a perfect snapshot of his confidence and love for the game.
A fan of Ohio State and inspired by NBA star Steph Curry, Cameron studies top athletes who combine skill with work ethic. He channels that same drive into improving his own game, knowing that the work he puts in today will shape his future success.

From Barboursville, West Virginia, Ethan Rowe has embraced the challenge and discipline that come with one of the toughest sports there is—wrestling. Competing for Cabell Midland Wrestling, Ethan has spent several years developing his skills on the mat, driven by a desire to test himself and grow stronger both physically and mentally.
Ethan first became interested in wrestling after watching other athletes compete with toughness, discipline, and determination. Inspired by their grit, he decided to give the sport a try. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the grind of practice and the satisfaction that comes from earning victories through hard work and dedication.
One of Ethan’s favorite memories from this season came during his very first tournament, the Pat Vance Tournament, where he placed 6th. The accomplishment was a meaningful milestone and a reminder that persistence and effort pay off. Each match and practice continues to push
Although wrestling is an individual sport during competition, Ethan says the team environment is what makes the experience truly special. “The best part of being on a team is pushing each other to get better every day,” he says. Teammates challenge one another in the practice room, helping everyone grow stronger and more prepared for competition.
When he’s not on the mat, Ethan enjoys lifting, staying active, and competing in other sports. He also values spending time with friends and family, always looking for ways to stay competitive and improve both physically and mentally.

A dedicated pitcher who has been playing baseball since the age of eight, this senior athlete has built his game around hard work, competitiveness, and a commitment to constant improvement. Alongside baseball, he has recently taken on a new challenge in golf, continuing to grow as a multi-sport athlete.
On the mound, he takes pride in attacking hitters, throwing strikes, and staying composed in big moments. He focuses heavily on refining his mechanics, improving his command, and developing his pitch mix so he can continue elevating his performance each season.
Coaches describe him as a hardworking and competitive player who always puts the team first. Whether he’s on the field, in the dugout, or at practice, he leads by example through his effort, focus, and attitude while supporting his teammates every step of the way.
Being coachable is a big part of his mindset. He believes it means listening to feedback, making adjustments, and trusting the process of improvement. That dedication to learning and growing is what continues to push his game forward.
While fans see the results on game day, much of his success comes from the work he puts in behind the scenes—strength training, studying hitters, and working on the mental side of pitching.
As he looks toward the next level, he hopes to find a college program with a strong team culture where players compete, support one another, and grow both academically and athletically.
