Editor's note Happy 2022 my SAFE readers I would like to thank you for the support that you gave in the last year. May God continue to keep you and increase your knowledge in Him. This is the month of the back-toschool chaos. I always wonder why an annual occurrence seem new every time it comes around. we need to better and be responsible at least at this one annual thing. For those who planned and saved, it is ok to say no to a friend cry for What I have learned by now (from 2021) is to rest on an idea that God has given you and run with it, no matter what seems impossible. I learnt that sometimes we are afraid because of the change that we need to embark on. We forget that if we go with God, we will be successful, that God will light up our way. Let’s work harder(sow) this year as soon as it starts and not waste any time.

A REFLECTION ON THE YEAR THAT WAS

Our entry into the new year should be accompanied by a review of how the past year went. Have a look at the goals that were set at the beginning of the year, how many of those goals were achieved, if there are still some outstanding – then, a determination of how they can be included in the current year’s plan of events or if they need to be struck-off the register because they are deemed unachievable or unrealistic after this year. It is important for each one of us to introspect in order to assess our various situations as well as make the necessary changes to manage expectations, individually and or those of others. This exercise is not only suitable for our earthly encounters but is most important in our spirituality. There is need to reconnect with God and move to greater heights, move from our comfort zone so that we may experience the power of God’s touch especially during these challenging times.

The year 2021 was a very difficult year for most people. Almost everyone has been confronted by this monster called Covid-19, either personally or through a loved one. Families have been broken down because of the effects of Covid-19, businesses have shut down, jobs lost, economies fallen-even the mighty ones have been brought to their knees in just 2 years. Due to closure of places of worship and the regulated numbers of meetings and people allowed at any given time, many people had to stay locked in their homes and missed out on opportunities for fellowship. This weighed heavily on a lot of people some of whom experienced emotional and mental burdens, therefore, increasing their stress levels and at times reducing their ability to cope with current situations or the new normal. It is during these trying times that we need to reach out more and more to those around us, so as to proclaim to them the good news and promises

made by our Lord. In Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV) The word of God says, “the spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord”. This scripture teaches us to acknowledge and accept each other with our different strengths and weaknesses. To lift each other up and offer support to one another in times of need.

We should consider ourselves blessed to have seen the end of 2021 still in one peace and for this, we should give honor and glory to the Almighty God who has seen us through it all. We should in more ways than one, thank Him by taking care of His people who need our support. We must be able to spread the word of God as much as possible during the times when restrictions on movement and association have been lessened. We should also appreciate that each one of us who call themselves Christians has been anointed to preach the gospel, we just need to stir up the power within us to be able to boldly and without fear proclaim this word to those who need to hear it. Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV) encourages us as follows, “and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works; not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” While still observing the Covid-19 protocols, it is still possible for us to share the word of God and encourage one another to remain strong in faith even amidst the current challenges.

Lastly, as we look into 2022, we should carry with us words from Psalm 121: 1-2 (KJV) which says, “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF STARTING WITH GOD

Youthful4God | Issue 23| Pg 9

Those who start with God end well, why you may ask, He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending. Once you start a brand new year there are so many things and aspirations that one will have, but some of these things cannot happen without the help of God. This is why you need God and you must start with God. In fact, you cannot fulfill your dreams without divine assistant as a believer.

we start the year those with different As beliefs will be making sacrifices to their gods, deities and what they believe in to see them through the year. In our working environment, there are those whose altars will be speaking on their behalf because of the yearly sacrifices and covenants for everyone to look inferior except them. This is why you cannot be silent as a child of the Most High God You must engage the altar of God which is greater than any other altar to speak on your behalf.

In Genesis 1:1 the Bible says, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. In this scripture we see that God is the author of everything, therefore you must start with Him in prayer, fasting, dedication, vows and the like. Proverbs 16:3 the Bible says. Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.

Our text admonishes us to commit everything we do into the hands of God so that it will be established. In other words, if you become your own boss and leave God to guide you, you will fail woefully. Like I said before, God knows everything which is why you must involve Him in every step of the way so you will have a successful end.

We have children of God who started purpose, that is what God has approved, but at the end of businesses, got involved in relationships the day people come out being victorious because it has and other projects without seeking the God’s backing. face of God first, and when they failed

they turn around to blame God for their failures. Recognize that the devil fights purpose, that is what God has approved,

Youthful4God | Issue 23| Pg 10

At the beginning of each year, most churches embark on fasting and prayers to seek God’s face for the year, because if you do that you are sure to end well. So I want to encourage every believer to do so for their own good. If you belong to a church do not exempt yourself from such an important spiritual discipline. If because of health reasons you cannot fast still pray. If you do not belong to any church for now you still have to fast and pray and commit your plans for the year into the hands of God for its success. Sometimes you may have your own plans but it is the Lord's counsel that will stand. Proverbs 19:21 says. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Recognize that we live in a strange, wicked and dark world therefore we need God’s security. What will happen to you and your loved ones during the year is unknown to all of us, but when you commit your affairs into His hands, he knows how to take care of things.

THE BENEFITS OF STARTING THE YEAR WITH GOD 1. You will end well. Ecclesiastes 7:8. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.

2. Your protection is assured. Psalm 91:1. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

3.You and your entire family will walk in divine preservation. Psalm 121:6-8. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

4.God will direct your steps. Psalm 37:23a. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD. Exodus 13:21. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night.

5.Your expectations will not be cut short. Proverbs 23:18. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

6.Evil weapons targeted against you and your household will come to nothing. Isaiah 54:17. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

7.The Lord will be your shepherd and provide for you. Psalm 23:1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

WHAT ARE YOU SOWING?

We are often not aware that what we get to do or achieve is because of what we planted and gave time and nourishment to. We might not sow consciously but we end up reaping heavily.

The concept of sowing and reaping could be one of the simplest, but most ignored in life. Anything we put our time, energy, money, or focus on is an act of sowing. Reaping is the results or consequences of what we’ve sown. The ramification of our reaping depends on the amount of effort and time we put into the sowing.

The Bible gives very clear teaching on this reality that can influence our eternal rewards. It is said that “a man reaps what he sows. ” People sow with the aim to reap, not necessarily for instant

knowing the dos and donts of what you are about to put your time and energy in. You also want knowledge of the seasons and what you can produce at that particular time. This is a stage where most people do not want or even skip because it involves effort

Before this magazine started, I had 2 years of researching and planning. I had an excuse that I don’t have money to start a magazine (that was me negotiating with God), but He (God) kept pushing me to do it. I gathered so much information that I realised that there is nothing impossible with God. By the time we published our first issue (February 2020), it was so relevant because we were experiencing lockdown and people were not attending churches and the online magazine was available.

is part of the journey. All you have to do is soldier on, you will eventually reap that which you had planned to achieve when you started sowing.

Youthful4God | Issue 23| Pg 13

After reaping, you do not leave the group unprepared for the next season of sowing. Sometimes our breakthrough is in following the sow and reap concept because you have prayed and fasted. What is left is to put more effort in your goals. Take a look at the top 5 Bible verses about sowing and reaping: “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy" (Psalm 126:5) “A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward" (Proverbs 11:18). Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity, and the rod they wield in fury will be broken" (Proverbs 22:8). Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life" (Galatians 6:7-8). Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously" (2 Corinthians 9:6). Make it a point now so that when the year starts, you sow correctly with the aim to reap abundantly. Step out of the deception and recognize that your life is one big field waiting for the right seeds to be planted. It’s best to take out a little time to do an inventory of your life. You can start with a small seed of determination to make a change and one day reap a huge dividend of eternal reward from God.

She saw it as a way of fine-tuning her interpersonal skills and furthering her understanding of people.

Nonofo’s need to be more involved in helping people develop and grow at a personal level, instead of just focusing on professional development! “I strongly believe that personal development and growth, is a more holistic approach that leads to sustainable development and wellness that positively impacts all facets of one’s life” she explains. GUARD YOUR HEART Proverbs 4:23 says “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”. Mark the words “for everything you do flows from it”, the New King James version puts the last part of verse 23 this way, “…for out of it spring the issues of life”, and The Message translation says, “…that’s where life starts”. This is interesting; this “heart” surely is a great deal. So what really is this heart that the Bible says to guard so much, is it talking about this organ that pumps blood in us? Well, not really. The heart is the core of our being; it is the inner seat of motivation. Reasons why we think what we think, why we do what we do, and feel what we feel are “manufactured” in the heart. Who you are, your attitude, habits and character are a pure reflection of the posture and state of your heart.

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” have you ever been surprised by thoughts of hatred towards someone, who has not even done anything to you, thoughts of jealousy and envy? Yup, I can relate too. It seems like we have a heart problem. The Fall of Man has indeed affected us at the deepest level; our mind, emotions and desires have been contaminated by sin. An unguarded heart will land a lot of us in trouble. Imagine, an act of murder started first as tiny little thought that was allowed to grow and graduate into something complicated and outrageous. Thoughts of immorality, corruption, deceit, etc. all emanate from the heart. Some families do not know peace because of the state of heart of their members, believers in churches jostling one another for whatever reason, and some are even pastors. That goes to show us that an unguarded heart defies a man’s title or job description. An unguarded heart has the tendency to embarrass an envisioned stature.

God is calling us to keep the reins on our hearts so that we can love the way we wish we could love, and be good to others including ourselves. Most of the time people talk about making the world a better place. I say, it starts with the heart; a heart that is well guarded, a heart whose Lord is God. God is good by nature; His influence on us will result in us having good hearts. He is able to turn a heart of stone to a good heart. If you find yourself struggling with hatred, deceitfulness etc. surrender your heart to God for help. A bad heart could be the one standing between you and happiness in your marriage. Surrender! Give God that heart. That is how you guard it.

Youthful4God | Issue 23| Pg 18

Whenever a wicked thought or emotion rises from within, immediately take it and give it to God. Do this until your heart is tamed by the goodness and love of God. An unguarded heart is the devil’s office, a planning room for wickedness. Weigh every thought and emotion and see if your heart is not captured by the wicked one. Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”.

BOOK REVIEW BY R. Carlos Pius

TITLE: WITHSTANDING THE TIMES AUTHOR: Bokani Magwaile Contents: 16 titles, 82 pages Price: P200

These times are difficult; whether you know and pursue your purpose or not. Whether you lead a successful or boring life, the times are challenging. And when we wondered what we could do to survive, Ms. Magwaile used her Spirit-filled soul to give us a scroll that will help us realize that there is more to life than meets the eye. This book unearthed problems and solutions and reading it more than once (because let us face it you must read it more than once) not to understand but to renew your mind with the beauty and splendor of getting solutions from God as a reader or anyone with an interest to. With attention to details, she stated that there are childhood traumas that will suffocate us when we get older. Moreover, this is the truth that we all don’t want to hear because as adults we feel in total control of our lives. The beginning of everything is important for the glorious end of it and once our childhoods are broken so shall our lives be. We fail to withstand the times because nobody perfected our beginning. Bishop Jakes in a book interview with Pastor Steven Furtick said, “There is an old person down inside of you that is depending on you to be smart,” fast forward “do not disappoint that person by being foolish through the strongest years of your life.” The author has worked on our behalf like a locksmith, she knew what to unlock for us and it is one of those locks that we forget about. Everything revolves around childhood and to withstand storms means we have to repair those periods.

The book addresses our fears as beings of greatness and the author focused on building a perfect being, a great reader and someone who shall always live with hope. You can skim the topics and still get your mind blown. And I know we are not to judge the book by the cover but you cannot go wrong with this one. Once you get the book, you are so sure that your life will be transformed. Since its release, I can say it has done more than fairly well. Clients accepted it and all have given positive feedbacks. The confidence from the writer can tell you that the book was purposed for greatness. If it wasn’t of the review, I would have gone greedy and kept this master class manuscript to myself and people would see my life blossoming without knowing who my plug to success is. As a reader I take some things personal and a good book is one of those things I take personal and without fail. And since I know the author personally things even got more personal. For I also believe that whoever aims to transform my life through any medium should be 2 | P a g e someone I can test and approve of their authenticity with the content and context yet not limited to it. When it is said that we are to test spirits and you test the spirit of an author and find it to be genuine; what a wonder before God and the joy that fills your soul when you read the book is so immeasurable and will elevate you to withstand the times.

Heavenly Sound The 5 Most Popular Music Genres

music genres or styles as some people will call them. In this edition, I would like us to learn about different Here are the 5 most popular genres and I will deal with another 5 in the next issue.

1. Pop The quick and easy definition of “pop music” is any music that is popular during a particular time in history. Pretty vague, isn’t it? We think so.

With this understanding of pop music, we hope you’ll have a better appreciation for the following popular music genres that, by definition, fall under the pop category.

2. Hip-Hop

Hip-hop is one of the most popular music genres in the music industry. This art form had humble beginnings as an urban underground movement in the Bronx during the 70s. Artists like Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur were prolific leaders of this popular music genre.

3. Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

Although EDM may be considered a new music genre, it has its roots in the Disco era of the 70s. Pop hits like “I Feel Love” by Donna Summers drew crowds into the discos. With the invention of the drum machine, clubs could intertwine disco hits with these beat machines.

Sub-genres include house, techno, trap, hardstyle, to name a few. Nowadays, EDM has popularized remixes of pop hits like those of Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, further evolving this popular music genre. Youthful4God | Issue 23| Pg 23

4. Rock

As stated previously, rock & roll began over 70-years ago with Bill Haley. The 60s was known as the “British Invasion” when groups like the Beatles, Herman’s Hermits, and the Rolling Stones dominated the US charts.

As the decades rolled along, subgroups of the genre emerged. Soft rock included groups like America and the Eagles. Acid or psychedelic rock was influenced by the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, were experimenting with “acid” (LSD) was widespread.

The 90s gave us grunge artists like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Today, the rock genre isn’t as dominant as it was back in the day. Nevertheless, artists like The Foo Fighters, Muse, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers continue to pump out rock classics.

5.R&B

Rhythm and Blues (R&B) began in the late 40s when African-Americans combined blues with jazz music. Unlike jazz, R&B relies on powerful downbeats, usually in 4/4 meter, played by the rhythm section. Vocals featured blues-themed lyrics and melodies, and horn sections added riffs and musical punches to the arrangement.

Early R&B pioneers like Little Richard and Jackie Wilson paved the way for James Brown, Ray Charles, and SmokeyRobinson.Later came artists like Aretha Franklinand Stevie Wonder. Contemporary R&B artists include Usher, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, to name but a few.
